After his five-year stint with WWE ended, The Beast Of Belfast came back to the Independent Circuit as a much more experienced worker than before. The former Killian Dain made his New Japan Pro-Wrestling debut in America, worked for several US-Independent promotions like DEFY or Black Label Pro and made his way back across the pond to his home turf wrestling for ICW and OTT again. However, his biggest achievement after being released by the market leader came true last weekend when he defeated Chris Ridgeway for the PROGRESS World Championship at Chapter 137, Damo entered his name in a lineage of great PROGRESS champions such as Will Ospreay, WALTER and Pete Dunne. Der Anfang des Jahres fand passend zu seinem Moniker "Big Damo" für Damian O'Connor im großen Stil statt: Er nahm an der 5 Star Wrestling Tour in großen Hallen Englands teil und trat bei den IMPACT Wrestling-Veranstaltungen um den King Of The Mountain Title an. Den Schwung aus diesen Möglichkeiten brachte Damo in seine Heimatstadt Belfast mit, als er beim dortigen Debüt für Insane Championship Wrestling nach dem höchsten Titel der Liga strebte. In einem verbissenen Match konnte er Chris Renfrew entthronen und sich vor seinen nordirischen Landsleuten zum ICW World Heavyweight Champion krönen.
