Pro wrestling's an enterprise that regards talent based on 5 categories - Appearance, Athleticism, Charisma, Personality, and Ability. 1. Appearance - Amber look like a fitness model. Whether she's your type or not doesn't change the fact that she clearly puts more work in outside of the ring than the vast majority of women's talent. Outfits are mind-blowing sexy. 2. Athleticism - She moves very quickly, takes stiff shots, is never blown up, and has an assortment of high-flying, suplexes, and technical grappling that fans should want. 3. Charisma - If you attend live shows Amber works, she always receives huge pops from fans. From sleepy fans in Texas who don't cheer for anyone, to fun Florida fans who stay loud the entire show, you can bet that Amber will receive pops from men and women alike. More importantly, she receives enormous pops from children, the demographic that is most important for the sustainability of pro wrestling. Kids don't care what these alleged "Smart, " imaginary insider internet trolls believe - they see a gorgeous, high energy, athletic specimen emerge from the curtains and lose their minds. 4. Personality - Wrestlers should choose gimmicks that fit their core personality, and she is a nice person from a blue-collar background, so that's what she chooses to use in her communication. It's authentic, which this business sorely needs anywhere it can get. Let me explain this to any dumb dumb internet troll fans who believe they're authorities on the business - working heel is easy. Amber can work heel, she does it well. Anyone can do it well. What's tough is playing strict babyface, and Amber does that better than any other woman worker in the business. It may not be for you-that's fine. When I was a kid I didn't like DDP, Dusty Rhodes, or Terry Funk for similar reasons, but that didn't mean I didn't appreciate their talent and what they brought to the business. There's a reason every superstar works heel first - it's easier to get over when the face turn drops. It's more comfortable. Anyone can scour and sneer and and pull that emotion out of the audience, to work face and excel at it is the hard job. Put yourself in that position of trying to make a room full of strangers support you for no reason - it's extremely tough, and she does it very well. 5. Ability - Watch chats for her dark matches if you can't go see her live. Inevitably people (with no prior knowledge of Amber) say "Wow she's gorgeous and has the look, but can she work'" A few minutes later the response is "Wow she's a lot more than a pretty face." She has excellent balance, footwork, move execution, in-ring story telling, and does a great job covering up her opponent's mistakes. You may not see this of her if your only exposure is AEW dark, but do yourself a favor and see her live, meet her, and learn something. |
