13 | 04.06.2025 | arminamin | 7.0 | MJF was once the biggest and best young talent in the industry. He was one of the most believable and hateable heels of a time. He was also one of the best in ring performers AEW had. He had some of the best feuds in AEW history and let's face it, was definitely their biggest star at many points. But that changed during his Worl Title. The fact that the crowd were cheering for him was one thing, but they made him a full on babyface and made him involved in the whole Devil angle which is the main reason why he started fumbling. MJF has been, Mediocre since. He's a heel again which is a good thing, but his promos are not half as good as they used to be and he rarely wrestles. I still think that the old MJF is somewhere inside, but until he actually brings that version back, this version of Max doesn't work for me |

When he has something he can sink his teeth into and cultivate and has the time to do so (remember he has a somewhat blossoming movie career) he makes magic. The devil stuff was bad, but what are you going to do about serious injury? Still the best talker in the business by a mile imo, and his matches are always creative and extremely well executed. What more could you possibly want? |

21 | 22.05.2025 | arisenby | 6.0 | [6.4] I think Max has a similar issue to one of the issues Brock Lesnar had during most of his second run, where he's just only really good when he gives a shit and he hasn't given a shit in a while. Unfortunately, 'good but only when they care' means bad. He had a fantastic run early in AEW, between the Cody feud, giving CM Punk one of the best feuds of his career, and even the first half of his run with the AEW World Championship, but it feels like ever since the Devil feud with Adam Cole went sideways, he just has not cared as much and has been in kind of a repetitive funk where he's unable to get anything good out. The second half of the Adam Cole feud was an admirable attempt to salvage it that just did not work out, the Ospreay feud was kind of just 'eh, ' the Garcia feud was also 'eh, ' mostly as a result of Danny's contract status being up in the air, the Jeff Jarrett feud was atrocious, the Hangman feud was good and felt like a return to form, only for him to go back to mediocrity with the Hurt Syndicate storyline. It's made worse by the fact that he's honestly pretty good in-ring. He works a much more old-school style than most of the AEW Roster and is an absolutely incredible seller, but it's not enough to save him. There was a passion and drive to MJF pre-All In '23 that is just gone now and its absence is felt extremely hard. |
22 | 22.05.2025 | edgyfr | 3.0 | MJF may be one of the most insufferable wrestlers i've ever seen. His wrestling style was always fine he kinda was a CAW but after the face turn he has not wrestled a single match were i don't feel dread just by looking at his moveset. He is just not that good, he can hoop with the best but whenever he has anybody but top quality he is a slow, boring and mediocre passionless wrestler. And somehow that ain't even the worst part of him, because he kinda made people believe that he was good at promos. Once again when he is against an elite wrestler, he is good, just like a mirror, but any other moment if you give mjf a mic he will be the most obnoxious and pointless talker you could imagine. There was something funny on his deliveries at first but now his whole character is so aimless that is like he lost any charm he had |

26 | 09.05.2025 | Sad Smeargle | 6.0 | I really don't want to make a habit of trashing wrestlers. I hate complaining, and the internet, and especially the IWC has enough whiners as is. But for someone who likes to trash others and claim he's underrated as much as he does, MJF is really middling. His actual in ring skill is certainly high. His diving foot stomp, on the rare cases he pulls it out (which as far as I know has been never since joining AEW) has some of the most pinpoint accuracy I've ever seen from a dive, he's hella athletic, and he is solid at creative counters, and is genuinely a high-level seller. But a lot of that is hampered by well...him refusing to just DO that. He chooses to wrestle as the heel with a minimal offensive reportoire, and considering none of his current signature moves are that exciting, it really hurts his outcomes. And well...he's just a good storyteller. As in, he's good, but not good enough to warrant him being at the top of the card, when "Good storytelling" is the average level. I mean, he really isn't at a higher level than Miz and Britt Baker he seems to hate comparisons to, and none of his singles big matches have been that stand out, almost feeling...disappointing cause you know someone else could be there putting on a much better match. I wouldn't spend an entire comment calling him Mid if it didn't seem like he's trying really hard, or at the very least, his devoted fanbase, is trying to convince us he isn't. |

Having one of the best feuds of CM Punks career and being the last good thing Brian Danielson has done. He raised the prestige of the AEW belt and looked like the future Miz (which is a great thing). However it all went down hill into rock bottom from that HORRIBLE Adam Cole devil stuff the Jeff Jarrett stuff which could have been great and the consent loop of things he does while in a feud. Now it seems he's gone cold in a way that he might not be able to bounce back from for months. Here's hoping that he brakes the staleness with this hurt syndicate stuff he's doing. |

37 | 24.04.2025 | Rassle Fan | 9.0 | His gimmick isn't complicated. "I'm better than you and you know it" couldn't be more straightforward. He's an arrogant, entitled heel. That really shouldn't go over anyone's head. |
38 | 19.04.2025 | OldTimer | 6.0 | I'm having difficulty understanding his character. His "I'm better than you and you know it" character comes across as juvenile, adolescent or childish. That combined with the reliance on cheap heat makes his character more appropriate for a college frat party movie than a wrestling ring. Yet I think he wants us to take his character seriously for a grown man. He has excellent wrestling skills, but I can't rate him any higher because of his character work. |

There are a lot of guys who can do exciting moves with a lot of flips, but not many who can tell a really good story in the ring like MJF. He occasionally stoops to really lazy ways to earn cheap heat, but he is an incredibly talented and hard worker, whose charisma is impressive, and whose feuds are often some of the most noteworthy things that happen in the company. |

53 | 14.03.2025 | ZephsPancakes | 6.0 | Max is someone I don't really enjoy or understand the hype with as a wrestler as a whole. Between the ropes I think he's adequate, his best match probably being with Darby Allin from Full Gear 2021, that being one of the very few matches of his that have actively engaged me with it's in-ring content and build. My main issue with his wrestling is he can't particularly settle on a style, he has these big flashy moves as well as the classic heel tendencies (this was shown the worst with his 2023 face run with the AEW World Championship). I also think he's a criminally overrated promo, he has had a few great ones yes but a majority of the time it's the same cheap heat lines over and over week after week: "x place sucks", "you're all poor" etc. He hasn't particularly evolved from this too much since his arrival in AEW (where I became familiar with him and his work) in terms of his promos and a great one once in a blue moon doesn't make him a top tier talker for me personally. The fact the cheap heat promos are beginning to bleed into his matches too is really a put off for me, it instantly took me out of his match with Roderick Strong at Full Gear 2024 and just had me pleading for him to actually start wrestling. For me the annoying thing is that there definitely is a potential there with him, he's shown it before but for me personally I can't see him reaching what he can become anytime soon. |

69 | 12.02.2025 | LJAwesome 03 | 3.0 | MJF has really letdown as one of the future faces of AEW. Earlier on he had some great runs/storyline showcasing his craft and added a definite shakeup to the style of heel wrestlers in the company and wrestling as a whole for example he's storyline with Punk, Omega, Cody, etc. However, now it become stale relying on basic heel antics that aren't even jaw-dropping but more or less cringe if anything. He's still able to put on good matches though at times they're overbook for no reason other than because which hurts him more. Its disappointing how much he has fallen behind compare to the other Pillars of AEW such as Darby, Jack & Sammy who've at least shown some growth or development whilst MJF is just the same old Scumbag/Devil ; especially when you look at other heels in the company such as Christian who's "Your Father Dead/Father Figure" gimmick has elevated him more than MJF and for good reason. I'm simply not a fan. |

73 | 28.01.2025 | darkflame4527 | 5.0 | MJF in 2021 and 2022 showcased so much emotional range in his promos and had a feud of the decade candidate with CM Punk. However, I feel as though he has been carried by his dancing part a majority of the time out of that. He has had some banger matches, only when his opponents are named Kenny Omega, Will Ospreay, or CM Punk. He has a problem where he feels that his "scumbag" gimmick needs as much cheap heat as possible, killing any creativity and awesomeness that was present a couple years ago. The Devil storyline ruined a lot of the credibility he had, as he beat Jay White with one leg, wrestled very much injured until he left for several months, and was never the same. Better Than You Bay Bay was my favorite tag team of 2023 due to its goofiness and fun storytelling. That was subsequently ruined after. Max has the capability to bring back AEW from the trenches of approaching irrelevancy, but it is clear right now he isn't really doing that. His lack of passion for the business trying to get himself over the entire company is just obnoxious. His most recent programs have gone viral as a source of mediocrity and a lack of passion which was always doomed to happen. Tony got him doing the "wrestling is for everywhere/AEW is where the best wrestle" bullshit, MJF taking that as his whole persona. |
74 | 27.01.2025 | lukasmgc | 4.0 | Let me preface this with this. 2020 MJF to Early 2023 MJF is a really great character. One of the best heels of all time. In terms of how loved he was by the IWC and fans, go back and look at the best heels of 2021 list and you will see him at either No.1 or No. 2 right behind Roman Reigns or ahead of Roman Reigns. I remember that being a matched everyone discussed. Max was being booked with the biggest star in the wrestling industry. That's how beloved he was. The reason why this version of MJF was so good was alot of things. First: Emotional Deph. There was always more to the character then met the eye and MJF was one of the first wrestlers or maybe even the first wrestler ever to give his character layers and everyone ate it up. Second: Promos. MJF gave heel promos that are pretty standard today. Border on Marky, Border on Casual, Border on Reddit Mod. It's a reused format but back in 2020-2021 everyone was eating up his promos and no one was doing it like him. He managed to be humorous, loveable, and hateable and he didn't really need to refer to online fans to get heat. It was just really innovative because there was clearly alot of work put into his promos and every insult was clever and charming. Third: Matches. MJF from 2021 to Early 2023 was on a roll to tell people he was the best wrestler in the world. He had the match with Darby, Punk, Mox, Mox again, then Danielson. Those matches alone solidified him as one of the best wrestlers in the world. He wrestled a very old fashion stlye that relied on heel antiques, storytelling, and a little bit of flashy moves but his matches were almost always compelling and really fun to watch. It was like watching an FTR match minus the tag team stuff. Not to mention that during this time he was trying to prove himself as someone who could be the face of AEW and so he put himself on overdrive with the Punk feud and produced the greatest feud in AEW history. Storylines was the final reason. His storylines were almost always the highlight of an AEW Dynamite episode. And considering how rich that company is with talents, thats a big up. The whole character felt revolutionary and it felt ahead of it's time. He very much was a generational talent. His character took everything from the present that was good about pro wrestling and everything good about pro wrestling of the past and put it together. Overall, 10/10. But wait..here comes Mid 2023-Present MJF. To be honest, I don't know what changed. It's like after Revolution 2023, the man just stopped being fun. First: His promos. They became very dull and reptitive like he stopped really putting any effort into them. They became more directed at the internet community and also they became very "vince russo" esk. He started bringing up dirt sheet stories for material and it was kinda annoying because unless you were glued into the IWC, you wouldn't know what the fuck he was talking about. He started using like internet reddit insults that had no creativity behind it and it felt like (sorry venus) something off ChatGPT. Then the matches. Oh boy. They became overly done. Like run ins, superhuman abilites, etc. It became very annoying to watch an MJF match because it started to seriously resemble something from...PWG. And not to mention they just got overly long with alot of shenanigans. It was very annoying. Then of course, you got the feuds and oh dear god. MJF quickly went from white hot to stone cold. He's feuds were very..."Put myself over and just me." He completely buried Jay White in there first promo and made him a fucking joke. He almost ruined Samoa Joe. He completely fucked up Cole in the logic department. It felt like a feud with MJF was worse then a feud with Jericho simply because he kinda only put himself up front and center. Basically, his promos became bland, his character started to resemble a reddit user, he used cheap heat, his matches got overly "sport entertainment" based with the amount of bullshit that happened, completely lost the in ring psychology that made him special, geared to a more internet based community, got rid of the psychopath aspect of his character, very clearly started to not care about wrestling after Revolution 2023 (go watch his promo on Jeff Jarret if you don't believe me.), illogical storylines and storylines that made him and only him look really good. What the hell happened? Overall, he used to be really good but now it's like if you let someone from Twitter on a wrestling mic and wrestle in a wrestling ring without knowing anything about psychology or logic. |

Working with two of the most important wrestlers of the modern era (Punk and Danielson) fooled people into thinking this guy was great. From the racist (mispronouncing Takeshita's name) and necrophiliac promos and disconcerting segments he'd done with Cole, this man had done so much damage to AEW as a brand. More on this cornball's promos, you just know what the fuck he's gonna say. It's like he asked ChatGPT to generate mean things to say about his opponent. Horrendous match at one of the biggest pro wrestling shows ever. American wrestling's worst world champion by far (probably worse than Triple H's reign of terror from 2002-2005) and by far the worst pro wrestler of the 2020s. |

MJF can also dance, sing, roast people and being really funny, hold championship gold. When MJF says he is a "generational talent", it sounds generic from most heels in the business, but when he says that, many can agree that this could actually be very true. The only threat for his career would be prioritizing his acting career, who knows what he will do in the future. |

He's on his way, is dramatically underrated in the ring, and has shown that he can sell tickets, but ultimately the biggest decline in AEW business happened with him as champ, and he's going to have to work hard to get off some of that luster, but he absolutely can, and I hope in 10 years we look back at him and see how many great times we've had in his wrestling career. |
