I believe he is an excellent brawler--his strikes are visually impactful and memorable, often pulling me into his matches with their raw intensity. His chops, lariats, big boots, German suplexes, splashes... none are overly flashy, yet every move screams, "I'm here to destroy you, " making his style feel brutally authentic. Simple yet effective, he doesn't need elaborate maneuvers to make a match compelling. He excels at playing that dominant force, weaving gripping narratives through physicality alone. However, since losing the Intercontinental Championship, the quality of Gunther's in-ring work has noticeably dipped. Perhaps due to facing high-profile opponents, his strikes seem restrained--toned down in a way that dulls his edge. Even so, he's delivered countless standout matches. Before this dip, I'd have rated him a solid 9/10, maybe even a perfect 10. |

In NXT UK, his matches looked unesthetic and resembled more of a street fight outside a building than professional wrestling. I like good brawling--like Vader, Stan Hansen, Eddie Kingston, or from the pop scene, Steve Austin (who didn't have an extensive move arsenal), and you can also mention Sheamus. Their moves and wrestling are convincing. With Gunther, however, chops look completely unrealistic, absurd, and comical (remember that chop on Ludwig Kaiser? ). The only watchable match he's had was against Tommaso Ciampa in NXT in 2021. Talking about him being a strong IC Champion is pretty strange. Gunther was running away from his opponents and was afraid (hello, Braun Strowman). In the end, he lost to Sami Zayn, who was never the strongest wrestler in the roster. His matches are quite unwatchable and lack any kind of spectacle. I really don't want him to become the replacement for Brock Lesnar or John Cena, but it seems, unfortunately, that it's inevitable. If Gunther becomes the WWE World Champion (the same title that Cody currently holds), I will stop watching WWE altogether. |

He was an absolute monster wherever he went, whether across multiple continents on the indie scene, or reigning as the NXT UK Champion for over two years, silently putting on some of the best matches of all time with Pete Dunne, Ilja Dragunov and Tyler Bate, and that continues to reign true in WWE, as Gunther, who FINALLY bought the Intercontinental Championship back to its former prominence after great runs with Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins and The Miz got lost in the shuffle. In addition, I think Gunther is one of the few special attractions in the WWE today, having this uniquely unforgiving style in the WWE that we so rarely see, allowing him to feel like the realest guy in the room. The best part, as a lot of people think, is that he still has time to improve, and I might just agree with them, in all honestly. Long live GUNTHER. |
