"Chase Owens is a mediocre wrestler who, at his best, was a lowest rung warm body for the Bullet Club who got that role by being Kenny Omega's friend from the indies, then maintained some role in NJPW purely by lucking out on not being snapped up by AEW at the formation and being rewarded for his "loyalty" in sticking around by being given a constant role despite constantly mediocre matches. It's unavoidable when discussing Chase Owens to mention that in 2020 he was accused of sexually harassing a 16 year old girl, and that his response to this allegation was to claim for some reason that it "was for an angle in Smoky Mountain". Also if you wanna tell him he sucks to his face, just mention his name on a wrestling Reddit, because dude namesearches himself all the time."
[6.0] "Unsung hero of the NJPW undercard. Always solid and capable of pulling a good match out of 80% of guys. Doesn't have the main event look but neither does anyone using this site. Particularly all the guys with suspiciously similar usernames who bomb this page with 0s while making vague allusions to things that have nothing to do with in-ring performance."
[0.0] "Chase Owens is a horrible person and all he does as a wrestler is embarrass himself. He is incapable of having a good match, promo, character, or any thing else that being a wrestler requires. No idea why New Japan still pays this guy. Cant wait for the day this guy is out of the wrestling business. The fact i need to type even more to give this guy a zero is insane to me. Who in their right mind would give this guy anything higher? Fuck Chase Owens and anyone who still defends him. Another very easy 0 for me."
[5.0] "Honestly, was good for a while in his 20s. Just doesn't have anything to offer now, except as a body in a faction to take a loss or take part in a beatdown. He'd probably be better off in NWA if anywhere"
[8.0] "People who are downgrading Chase are obviously doing so for a reason not related to talent or some reason besides wrestling. Chase has always been a very good in ring worked. His microphone skills weren't the best for a bit but those have improved with time. If one has never seen some of his East Tennessee stuff with Davey Richards, Jason Kincaid, and so on them they don't understand just how good Chase really is. They are judging his NJPW where he is average there maybe compared to some of the best in the world. Average there being an eight any where else by the way. This is coming from someone who didn't always get along with the man, but always respected his talents."
[0.0] "This guy sucks. It pains me to have to find 500 characters to write about this dude just so my comment is accepted. He's so bad. Nothing he does has ever been good. How he's still employed baffles me. Bad at promos, bad in the ring, bad look, the most dumb looking knee strikes in the world. Just the worse. He's slow, clunky and nothing he does in the ring looks good. When he was on commentary sometimes I switched to japanese because he's the worst there too. Just retire please. Leave us alone. I never wish for a wrestler to be fired, but he should."
[3.0] "Chase is the definition of mediocrity and if one were to compile a list of mediocre wrestlers, he would more than definitely secure a place at the very bottom of the barrel. His character is bland and more drier than my skin. He wrestles the same kind of match and if he were to be elevated to a good match, the opponent would have to be the very very best i.e Ishii and Shingo. To summarise, he cant do it for himself and it was rather surprising how he made it into NJPW and continues to be a part of the roster for this long. He doesnt bring much to the table other than taking the pin in tag match and just simply being a complete jobber. He's had his moments but its far far away from anyhting worth mentioning"
[1.0] "This guy stinks, there is barely anything positive to say about him, his in-ring capabilties are pretty much nonexistent, with the right opponent (Shingo, Ishii) he can have a somewhat acceptable match, but it's usually because these guys carry this mf, most of the time he drags his opponent down to his abysmally bad level. He has 0 charisma, no auram mf puts you to sleep as soon as he steps foot in the ring or starts talking on a mic and don't get me started on that, it makes you wonder why NJPW still has him around, I mean what do they see in him, he adds nothing and he doesn't seem to be a good person outside of the ring either"
[1.0] "This dude sucks. He's horrible in ring wise and outside of the ring we know what he's done, he's just flatout boring as shit. I don't get what NJPW sees in him but man he's need to take his talents to NWA so he can wrestle Tyrus or EC3 nothing else i'm gonna say about this dude."
[1.0] "Holy fuck this dude sucks. Not only has he been a dick outside of the ring, but in the ring he just bores me to tears. I get he's been loyal to NJPW but god I wish he stuck with the NWA because they like to hire douchebags like Tyrus so Chase is a great fit there."
[0.0] "A man who is nothing. An embarrassing wrestler: I'm sure if the people of Bristol, Tennessee would hate him if they knew who he was. Not exactly easy to skirt past the major sex pest allegations, but in the case of judging his horrific wrestling, I don't think I need to. He's a 0 regardless. The worst wrestler in any major promotion by an absolute landslide. Lethargic, uninteresting, ugly, unfit, and dreadfully boring to a measure I never thought I'd be able to stomach for more than five minutes. Unworthy of having a job in wrestling, and hopefully it only goes downhill for him personally."
[6.0] "I understand why people dislike him, and I also think he should have received less of a push than he did. However, I believe he is a solid undercard heel wrestler who consistently delivers average matches and makes his opponent shine"
[0.0] "Questionable past actions aside, what does Chase Owens offer a top wrestling promotion? He looks terrible and out of shape (I'm not saying everyone needs to be prime Tanahashi but the whole look screams guy who just stumbled out of a creepy dive bar at 3am and thought it'd be cool to play wrestler), he more often than not looks gassed in big matches, he's has zero charisma and is just plain boring. I guess subbing in for an injured Jackson brother years ago gives you a push for life in Gedo world..."
[3.0] "I'm sorry, but Chase Owens is the fucking pits at times. He's not a terrible wrestler or anything, just the representation of what a modern NWA Television champion would be, and that's kinda an insult. This is especially true when considering his current 'push', which to every time he appears on screen I actively become a sadder person. He's simply not exciting in the slightest and when you also add in some uncertain abuse allegations made towards him, it makes me generally just sad he's getting pushed whilst there's so many other people that could have been in his position. Also, 3 above average matches in like 8 years also doesn't do anything either, and those matches were with Ishii and Takagi."
[7.0] "He's clearly better than his mark suggests. He's not a flashy guy and so he doesn't stand out in his matches, but he's consistantly solid, he's good as a technical wrestler, he can keep up with anyone in New Japan. He wrestles smart and fulfills his role as a BULLET CLUB heel..."
[3.0] "Absolutely mediocre. Not the worst wrestler I've ever seen, but I can't imagine anyone ever walking away from the show, and their highlight being Chase Owens. He is textbook vanilla."
[0.0] "This might be the the worst review I give to a worker on this site, I dont want to go out of my way to watch bad wrestling, I dont want to seek out Bubba The Love Sponge or anyone like that, what I do absolutely hate however is when I cant watch a promotion I really enjoy without seeing fucking Chase Owens. If the terrible wrestling, incredibly poor look, negative in ring charisma and total lack of any redeeming qualities werent enough hes also accused of some really heinous things outside the ring which dwarf any of those other negatives. Frankly I dont want to think or write about Chase Owens any more than this, and so I wont. Hes a total waste of space and I hope he gets out of the industry and preferably into a cell."
[3.0] "Big Tom Ishii or Shingo can occasionally drag him to a good match but lets be honest here, he is mostly stealing a living and has been for a while."
[2.0] "Chase is not great to watch and has gotten worse as the years have passed, at least before he seemed like he cared more and was in decent shape (not that this matters too much) but you can clearly see it is a big dip and adds to his decline. He genuinely adds nothing to Bullet Club and can't remember him doing anything remotely interesting."
[0.0] "I waited 7 days just to make this rating. Chase Owens is genuinely the worst thing going in NJPW right now. He has nothing going for him and his matches are always long and difficult to sit through. The fact he is carrying a belt in 2024 is outrageous. He's been signed to NJPW for a decade now and he doesn't look like he's worked out once in that entire time. His singles matches are painful to watch, and his tag matches are carried by his partner. His only claim to relevancy is that he still hangs on to being a member of Bullet Club, despite not being a major player in the faction for years. Boring wrestler, boring on the mic with declining in-ring ability. There is nothing good about Chase Owens."
[2.0] "There is nothing good about Chase Owens. Inside the ring, the only highlights is J trigger and package driver. He has a worse look than any backyarders, overbooked to the nth degree, and getting wins over actual noteworthy contenders in G1 or NY cup, adds nothing to Bullet Club at all. You would of thought BC has enough pin eaters, and even pin eaters like Bushi can be interesting and has his shine that at least can raise an eyebrow instead of slamming both shut. Inadequate is the best way to describe him."
[2.0] "Chase Owens. I wondered why this guy wasn't on AEW Rampage or some other significantly overpaid role for his ability and found out he's a complete moral degenerate so Matty, Nicky, and Kenny probably can't convince TK to bring him in. It stuns me Ricky Morton trained this guy all things considered. Bullet Club job guy who had to move from Jr Heavyweight (where he belongs) to heavyweight because he isn't athletic enough. Unfortunately for Chase, he has the personality of a damp rag and the appearance of a low grade security guard so he couldn't do much there either."
[6.0] "As a person, allegedly Chase Owens is pretty horrible. As a wrestler Charisma wise he's pretty bad, in terms of his in ring work, he's ok. Compared to most of NJPW's other pin eaters, he is better in ring. This is because he still tries more then most of the pin eaters. He is decent in ring and, while no ring general, can hold his end of the bargain when it comes to singles matches. He is a good hand to have when it comes to being last in the G1, and he has a match or two a year which are enjoyable. He is, in my opinion, the second best pin eater in NJPW. (5.5)"
[6.0] "I think Chase Owens is a decent worker, not an amazing one but a decent worker who can have a good match with the right opponent and he's also a pretty good chicken shit heel who can be easily hated. He will never be other than a midcarder because he's neither outstanding inside the ring or really charismatic but has a midcarder he does his job well and i'am not bothered watching his matches."
[7.0] "Ok, I might get heat or judged for this, but I believe Chase is the best representative of southern territories in Japanese rings. If you take a look, back then, almost everybody in the Tennessee and Texas territories were either fat or flabby guys in the ring like he is, they were all "smartass heels", and managed to make fans hate them by just looking at them, stuff that Chase naturally does. A good technician with some veteran credit, Chase is from the good ol' boy system of wrestling. Apart from that, the guy just happens to be boring and pathetic at times, but hey, who isn't uh?"
[4.0] "Chase probably has the worst look out of the entire NJPW roster, and he isn't exactly Kenny Omega when it comes to his in-ring work, so it's a real wonder how he's managed to be booked in the company for so long. If Chase's appearances were limited to a few 'Road To' tours a year then that be be forgivable, but he's been pushed far beyond his level over the last 5 years, appearing in the last three G1 Climaxes and four out of the last five NJ Cups. And okay, if I'm being fair, he *is* always booked to be last or second-to-last place in the G1 blocks, and his NJ Cup runs he only ever gets 1 or 2 wins against insignificant lower-carders, so it's not like he's getting a Jinder-style push or anything. The issue, though, is that having him in these tournaments to begin with brings down their prestige, since a nobody like Chase has done nothing to prove he deserves to be entered into any sort of tournament that is meant to decide who the next world-title-challenger will be. There's also the annoyance of how, despite his kayfabe lack of achievements and skill relative to the other wrestlers in these tournaments, he will often dominate a good portion of these matches against far better (kayfabe and IRL) wrestlers, which just feels totally unconvincing. I mean, was I really meant to buy into Chase dominating previous GHC Heavyweight Champion Kiyomiya for long? Or the same with Dominion world-title challenger Tsuji? Even Sanada having to go nearly 10 minutes to put Chase away gives Chase far more respect than he deserves. People who focus only on the 'destination' of Chase's booking rather than the 'journey' of it are unable to see how detrimental he is to NJPW's prestige as a wrestling company and to the reputations of the wrestlers he faces. Having Chase so frequently dominate and go 50/50 with the both the roster's future and current stars is stupid, and I can't see any justification for it other than the fact that "50/50 style" matches have infested wrestling worldwide, and Chase is thus an incidental beneficiary of this trend. Now, Chase getting this sort of booking wouldn't be so bad if: (a) he gave a single toss about actually looking a combat athlete (dude looks like the laziest schlub ever, fit only for an indy in front of 50 people), and (b) there was more to his offence than just being a generic 'mega-indy' style with lots of moves hit rapidly yet without any convincing impact or technique. I won't lie that I do think he's moderately okay when paired with the right opponent, which will allow him to produce some okay exchanges and spots, but then I gain get the issue where his unconvincing look and his unwarranted dominance become far more overpowering compared to whatever minimally impressive level his offence can occasionally reach. Chase would actually have some charm if he was a cocky underdog who constantly talked a big game but rightfully got put away in only a few minutes against the majority of his opponents, but his current booking/position doesn't at all suit. Definitely not a terrible wrestler, but I certainly struggle to consider him as being even mediocre."
[0.0] "Even if you put aside him being a creep, this dude is a snooze fest. He can throw some ok strikes but he works the most generic matches ever and can't cut a promo to save his fucking life. Has only had boring G1 matches since Ive been watching and I truly just cant stand this dude. Doesn't deserve a spot. Much like his other Bullet Club contemporaries (Yujiro Takahashi, Karl Anderson, Bad Luck Fale, and Luke Gallows) he seems to have pretty much just given up and decided to cruise control his career. Boring, a sex pest, and not even ashamed of either."
[2.0] "It's just not good when a wrestler makes you feel nothing, absolutely nothing, the way Chase Owens does. He's a wet blanket on any card and seems to lack the ambition to truly improve. He's avoidable when he's doing low-card tag matches, but he becomes a terrible thorn in my side when he's taking up valuable real estate on a G1 bracket where there were are myriad other wrestlers that would have been more interesting to see in his place. He sucks the air out of the room for me. I am not a fan."
[5.0] "Not the tire fire some make him out to be, but he certainly isn't good. I'm not sure why he's never tried to get in better shape, as his style seems better catered to someone in better physical condition. Seeing as he's essentially the same wrestler as he was eight years ago, I doubt he'll ever improve."
[0.0] "Worst wrestler across all major promotions. He brings negative value to the table and makes everything he's involved in worse. It's disgraceful that he's in the G1. Some wrestlers merely look worse because of the peers in their promotion. Chase Owens would look bad in your local no name indie. He's awful in the ring, to the point where he can't even be carried by the best in the world, he adds nothing on the mic, and he has one of the worst looks in wrestling. Every time I watch him I sour on him further. None of that even gets into his transgressions outside of wrestling."
[2.0] "I have never ever seen anything where this man has added anything to a situation. I really wonder what the NJPW bookers see in him that apparently is getting him booked in the G1 every year. At least he seems to be a loyal servant to NJPW and a good fall taker, if I should speak more positively."
[1.0] "Chase Owens just sucks man. Hes dedicated but hes very basic and his entire gimmick is being a wily veteran. Hes 33. The only thing he has going is a cool finisher and nickname, it also doesnt help that hes a piece of shit irl."
[6.0] "Not sure what is the reason for the hate but he's playing his rule very well...... He's a good hand at some times, he will take the pin in tag matches and he will push rising talents and give easy points for the G1 climax."
[0.0] "One of the most useless wrestlers Ive ever had the pain to experience watching. He adds nothing of value to any show Ive ever seen him on, and hes gotten thru the years by ripping all of his more popular teammates off. He must have dirt on someone for keeping his job as long as he has."
[4.0] "Chase has served as a reliable, if unimpressive lower card filler for NJPW for most of his career. A lackluster physique, middling to good in-ring work, never given much to work with as a promo. When paired with a stronger hand, he was a good man to eat the pins in multiman tags, but when paired with horrendous workers like Fale he is absolutely phoning it in, and fast forward material."
"Sweet Backflipping Christ this man is boring. I dont hate him or anything, hes just so painfully boring. Boring look, Boring wrestling, Boring gimmick, just so boring in every way."
[0.0] "He's A terrible person, boring wrestler, boring promo, he's one of the most useless BC members, had A terrible match with Yano, among other terrible matches he's had in the past. He's at his best when being carried, when he isn't he's garbage."
[3.0] "He was an average wrestler when he first joined NJPW but he was young enough that there was room to improve but he's just gone backwards. His work is often lazy and he's still the same average wrestler from five years ago."
[3.0] "Chase Owens looks more like a geek and i don't think he can achieve anything in NJPW except KOPW Trophy. Probably he'll work somewhere like WWE. Not good wrestler too."
[3.0] "This guy must have some real dirt on the NJPW executives because he is awful. He has in-ring ability and physical appearance have gotten worse year after year in NJPW. He's been able to coast by, get fat and travel the world so good for him."
[1.0] "It really baffles me how a wrestler like this even makes it into the industry. Not only does he wrestle for a noteworthy company, but that company also happens to be the biggest wrestling company in Japan by a wide margin. I guess every company needs a pincushion."
[3.0] "He's the Bullet Club's weak link, with a bad appearance, a bad personality, and terrible wrestling abilities. Someone has to eat the pins, I suppose."
[3.0] "I don't see the point of Chase Owens on the NJPW roster. They say he's a solid hand, which might be true, but it doesn't get the promotion very far. He doesn't offer much in the ring and his work is highly predictable and one-dimensional."
[1.0] "Chase Owens is the blandest gaijin that's probably ever worked New Japan, and the least interesting member Bullet Club has ever had, at Bone Soldier is hilariously bad, Chase Owens is just nothingness. And whoever decided to give him a 30 minute match with Toru Yano (Gedo) they made this year for New Japan even worse."
[3.0] "Has gotten noticeably worse in ring after being able to have a decent match years ago. Now he's become a sore spot on every New Japan card while also now getting constant spotlight matches, unfortunate. Also compared people not liking his matches to someone committing suicide and is also a sex pest, so at least his real life character matches his wrestling"
[8.0] "Pay no attention to those giving low ratings & negative reviews since it seems like these people are either using their own bias against his character while comparing him to other gaijins who are doing far better or are just not watching the overall product as much as they claim which I will get into later. Over 6-7 years ago Owens had been working mostly for NWA Smoky Mountain that ran events and uploaded matches to their YT channel which you can still watch. Bruce Tharpe eventually became involved with the NWA and inner turmoil ensued but despite the problems that came, one thing that stands out is that he was able to fix the relationship between the NWA and New Japan which is how Owens was able to get involved with them since he was the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion which seem to still have some meaning in Japan where he was able to wrestle the legendary Jushin Liger which slowly led to him and New Japan build an affiliation with one another. He would go on to be a part of Best of Super Jr's in 2015. The very same year Owens was chosen again, this time to be a part of the arguably at the time the most popular faction the Bullet Club that went on to tag with Kenny Omega for the Super Jr Tag Tourney, Owens would also face IWGP Champion AJ Styles at one of the NWASM events which is great if you can find it online so this notion that Owens lucked out in his position is nonsense. It seems these "fans" are only willing to give any credit to those that are are being pushed in a certain direction but here's the thing, Owens like the majority of talents in NJPW cannot control the booking, they aren't in certain US companies that let their wrestlers pick and choose who gets pushed and who doesn't. For 6 years Owens has been working with NJPW and yes he should be in a better place but to call him a pin eater is absurd, does he take a good amount of them? Sure. Has it been lately? Doubtful if those actually watched NJPW recently instead of playing follow the leader giving him low ratings and adding nothing informative in the comments instead of just using whatever search engine you have to see what Owens is capable of instead of while giving this perception he's just plain and boring who does nothing for the BC when the only one doing that is Yujiro Takahashi who's been their longer who's best attribute was bringing Pieter around but even that got old. Owens isn't ZSJ, Cobb, White or any other gaijin's that had strong pushes in pass so making the comparison is arbitrary but regardless, he is doing what you call paying dues which has led him to being chosen for upcoming G1 which shows the ignorance of those that call themselves "fans". Maybe some don't like this but it's the reality of it. "Some will never understand the sacrifices you make for this business. This business can take a toll on you and knock you down. But when you get knocked down you get up, dust urself off and keep moving forward. " - Chase Owens -"
[4.0] "Basically lucked into his position in NJPW, as lowly as it is. Still, he is better than Yujiro, and Kenta and EVIL in Bullet Club, they need someone to be a pin eater and he is the one they can always use, he has very little ambition, I also heard he committed sexual misconduct."
[2.0] "He's fine as a fall guy but there's clearly not much more use for him elsewhere. He's done well for himself with the Bullet Club, can't imagine how he's fare outside of that."
[2.0] "In a roster like New Japan's, Chase Owens stands out as maybe the weakest link, but I haven't seen anything that would make me think that wouldn't be the case on most rosters."
[2.0] "Don't see much use for him other than to take pins, but surely there could be better options for even that. Doesn't come off like an athlete but doesn't come off like a fighter either."
[2.0] "Yeah, I don't really understand why Chase Owens is utilized as much as he has been at New Japan. He kind of sticks out like a sore thumb as another foreign talent who was added to the Bullet Club ranks because they needed another body."
[4.0] "Chase is basically the pin-eater of the BC since the AJ Styles expansion. Had a solid start as a junior heavyweight but eventually NJPW realised that he wasn't going to get any better than forgettable so he's been in that hot seat of losing to the whole roster. He's perfectly fine where he is as a filler spot in tags but can be dragged to a decent bout if he's in with people who have actual charisma and personality. Sloppy strikes and has a pretty generic look to boot do not add much to his already weak presentation, but he's always going to have a role in NJPW as long as they do six-man tags all the time. Maybe he'll get better with another few years but I'm not confident in that either."
[7.0] "I really like Chase Owens. I think he has potential. He is a good striker, a good seller and he is one of the only guys in the BC who can give me interest. I hope he can have a good booking to prove his value."
[5.0] "He's got an awful look and zero charisma but every now and again he just pulls out some surprising athleticism which always stops me from writing him off completely."
[7.0] "Komplett underrated. Cooles Moveset, geiler Finisher und nicht so langweilig wie viele seiner Stablekollegen. In- Ring (8, 5/10); Charisma (6/10); Ausstrahlung (6, 5/10) und Gesamteindruck (7/10). Insgesamt 7/10 Punkten"
[2.0] "This dude is horrendous. Seriously, he doesn't have a good match, neither a Tag Team or a Singles one, not only that, but he doesn't care about his body (like Finlay). For me, he's just the fall guy of BULLET CLUB, and the guy who's going to challenge for the IWGP US and NEVER 6 Titles, just to give on successful defence to the champion."
[6.0] "He's a very good midcarder, I am yet to see him have a bad match with anybody and can have the occasional surprising match with a good opponent. I honestly cannot complain about his in-ring skills: very good modern Southern wrestler. But he has "limited ceiling" written all over him unless he manages to find a character that allows him to escape the midcard. He is still young and he has the in-ring skills so the potential is definitely there. We'll see where he is in a couple of years."
[6.0] "Chase Owens is a solid wrestler and good workhorse for Bullet Club. Owens is a good candidate for the US Title and may have a run with it one day."
[7.0] "He is a good wrestler. He's pretty much exactly what you want out of a prelim guy. Kinda small, fundamentally solid. This guy is there so other Bullet Club guys don't have to be pinned. Hes fine, and definitely not worth complaining about."
[9.0] "Chase is still young, but he is very fortunate to find himself in New Japan and join Bullet Club as it raises his stock, his character development, and his in ring abilities. He has been matured enough as a performer, because he's able to put on solid matches with everyone. In terms of character, he has been doing great as a supporting member of Bullet Club as he can work the crowd with his act. I really hope he will do more in Japan this year, especially in Jr. Heavyweight division."
[7.0] "Very talented individual. Not much in the way of charisma, but definitely a hard worker and pure 'rassler' in the ring. I see great things in his future."
