Instead, Tanahashi works ZSJ's legs and for me it's a first to see Sabre sell an injury, I was really impressed. Almost perfect ending, shame about El Desperado's subtle intervention. ZSJ makes Tanahashi tap out and gets his first big NJPW win. |

61 | 01.09.2017 | PUNQ | 8.0 | Zack Sabre Jr. -vs- Hiroshi Tanahashi – (G1 Climax – Block A) [*** 3/4] Tanahashi with a bad arm and Sabre being a cool prick punting it whenever he had the chance really made the match. He was almost taking the IWGP Intercontinental Champion too lightly! So cool. So calm. So collected! Punting away, and trapping the arm whenever he got Tanahashi down on the ground. The finishing moments was pure gold as Sabre ripped off the injury support and started twisting the arm in all direction! |

71 | 30.07.2017 | Dr Middy | 9.0 | This was an interesting clash of styles, and completely different in nearly every way from the match previously. Story here was Sabre Jr going after Tanahashi’s injured arm in his own unique way. Sabre Jr. ’s style works tremendously well in a heel role, and it only helps that Tanshashi was doing some great selling the whole match, peppering in just enough hope spots to remain competitive. Most of Tanahashi’s work was done to Sabre’s leg, probably to help combat his kicks. The ending was great, with Sabre catching Tanahashi into a submission to his bad arm, ripping off the compression sleeve and bandage. He looked vicious as hell, and it fit him well, as he walked away with a big win. This was pretty great, with some beautiful psychology throughout. ****1/4 |

74 | 28.07.2017 | jboyaquar | 7.0 | well done - a relatively unknown commodity w/ a certain credibility & a circumstance that creates a situation in which a bigger name and home-promotion superstar is believably vulnerable to the strength of the previously mentioned. And, our man owns a belt making title contenders a premium. In fact, this style of professional wrestling, as long as the ligament 'work' is harmless, makes-for a less physically and mentally demanding enterprise than many of his other match-ups. And thus Tana came-to-the-ring buoyant and ready, as ever encapsulating the youthful & innocent anticipation of competiton and play similar to babyface Muto some 27 year earlier. Outside of the flashier moves that have now been a longtime signature, this bout echoed the Tanahashi of the early 2000's. But perhaps the competitor in him undervalued the persistence of the crafty Englishman who cleverly hid his true ligamental attacking intentions until the right bicep was fully exposed due to the native's Achilles heel, a tendency to showboat. Tana tried to fight back employing Dragon-screws to go-after ZSJ's left knee, but the Sheppey man is too wizened to be a lying duck. Again and again he's out-thinking & maneuvering Tana and able to get a grip upon the injured body-part. And he's a rapacious, unrelenting naughty boy; he had the nasty gall to remove the protective bandaging giving the hero no choice but to tap. I wished that after the victory Suzuki himself would have come down and congratulated the victor as that would have further solidified Zack's standing within the company and it fans. *** 1/2 |

86 | 23.07.2017 | LegibleToe762 | 7.0 | This match really put out ZSJ as a key player to watch in this tournament with some great submission sequences here. I'm glad the Suzuki-gun bullshittery didn't occur much in this (despite El Desperado's little bit of interference here and there) because it meant ZSJ could show off what he was best at against a great seller in Tanahashi. ZSJ going after Tanahashi's injured arm was brilliant and it meant the finish worked incredibly while making both look strong as it seems as if if Tanahashi was at 100% then he probably would have beaten ZSJ here. Other than that I thought the rest of the match wasn't amazing, just was a good showcase of what ZSJ can do in the rest of this tournament. (***1/2) |

96 | 20.07.2017 | Jobbs | 10.0 | I am already going to have the impression that this will probably be the most underrated match of the tournament. These two traded holds and were grappling for the early portion of the contest until ZSJ started to target the arms of Tanahashi. Tanahashi would return the favor by working over the left leg of ZSJ and both men sold the damage quite well too which is always great to see. ZSJ was just violent though in how he worked over the right/injured arm of Tanahashi and the look of pain and agony on Tanahashi's face at the end was just awesome as well. This is definitely worth the watch in my opinion as well. ****1/2 |

Zack wieder clever bearbeitet immer wieder den verletzten Arm, wo Hiroshi auch ordentlich sellte (***1/2). |
