Obviously Asuka is great and it was cool to be reminded of a time where she was this feared killer and rightfully so. She moves like she could end the match at any minute. Bayley on the other hand has always been a wrestler that is hit or miss for me but here something feels different. Bayley's style and psychology is great, she's locked into targeting Asuka's leg and she's doing so in a really unorthodox manor most of the time. I always remembered Bayley being a stand out in the women's revolution but she strayed so far away from what she was like in NXT, so going back and seeing how much of an enjoyable babyface she was is really cool. She's never believable as the most dangerous wrestler and she isn't booked as such but what really works is how believable she is as an underdog with fighting spirit and that's really what makes this match work. I like that approach because it makes Bayley look strong, while Asuka still comes across as someone who, no matter how well you do, always finds a way to beat you and force you to submit. |

Which is funny because they don't use it in conditions that can be enjoyable the roll up, like this one. It's another face vs face, crowd almost forced to cheer for both, and the best decision was to end in a passing out submission with a complete anticlimax moment? No man, just put Asuka to win with a Old School Roll Up and everybody would be happy about it. The action in ring was great anyways, the end don't change my point of view. |

By the final seconds of the Asuka Lock, despite knowing what the finish of the match would be, I was still rooting for her to somehow, impossibly break out of it. A lot of time, strike exchanges/dodging don't look great in wrestling, but they manage it really well here. I really enjoy Bayley's two hurricanranas. Bayley's offense is also clever, she has an answer to a lot of the things Asuka tries, but Asuka is just stronger and more experienced and more tenacious. I was really surprised by how much I liked this match. I do think babyfaces should tap out more often than they do, but I forgive it. |

The crowd was still super hot for Bayley here. She was our girl at the time as a collective, but Asuka hadn't established the streak yet. I knew Asuka from the indies, where I found her on a Shimmer show in 2014. She was, and still is, my second favorite wrestler ever. She was still fairly unestablished in American wrestling fan circles. I don't think people expected to get what we got, which was Asuka doing Asuka things, and just breaking down the babyface. The finish, I personally love. How sudden and shocking it is really adds to how dangerous Asuka goes on to look, and Bayley doesn't tap, which helps her legitimacy. God, I love this match. |
