109.12.2020Loki Hipster God7.0This is a Champions vs. All-Stars elimination match, a tradition in ROH that usually delivers due to the variety of interactions you get amongst the wrestlers and the numerous storylines running throughout. Here you had some great storytelling where Jay Briscoe and Jay Lethal counter each other's big moves because they know each other so well (a callback to their previous World title matches against one another), Lethal and Kenny King being bitter enemies stuck on the same team, and fun spots like Cobb and Taylor rushing at each other like bulls. For the first 17 minutes, this had the makings of a potential classic. Unfortunately, I feel like the match dropped off once the Briscoes were eliminated. Things started to feel unorganized and the booking became questionable. For example, the Champions team were the heels, yet they were constantly at a disadvantage and fighting from underneath. Then you had Taven cheat by lowblowing Lethal and going to pin him, only for Lethal to kick out. Shortly after, Lethal is then pinned clean by Taylor. The bookers had the perfect opportunity to eliminate Lethal and still have him look strong, so why squander that and have him lose clean instead? Lastly, Taven beats Rush down with a chair (getting himself DQ'ed in the process), only for Rush to completely no-sell it. Overall, I enjoyed this match for the most part, but it really felt like I had to leave my brain at the door near the end.
