| 5 | 08.03.2023 | Logue38 | 8.0 | Harada has matches that are generally great at frustrating his own and his opponent's offense throughout a match, coming up with creative ways to counter or deny signature moves. For example, his shoulder drive into Kotoge's stomach is successful twice, but on the third attempt runs into a knee from Kotoge. Pick any big move from either of them, and you'll find examples of this sort of thing as a way to develop the match. That bridging avalanche german was absurd. |

Harada had his typical speedy and impactful attacks while Kotoge showed his usual aggression and nicely varied offence. Harada was in control early on but then got to show off his strong selling once Kotoge gained control. These two would impressively maintain their very smooth technique even as they started going for far more complex and rapid exchanges. Their stiff slap exchange was great -- just brutally painful-looking -- and the stiff exchanges luckily continued on past that point. The large number of incredibly precise split-second counters were great to see, as it felt like either guy could win at any second from a well-timed and well-positioned pin attempt. Harada's top-rope BRIDGING german suplex was insane, beautifully capping off this incredibly technically proficient match. ***1/2 |

Harada has this pretty well in control in the early goings, but Kotoge bounced back with a top rope front dropkick while Harada was standing on the apron. From there, champ whipped challenger into barricades and empty chairs before bringing him back to the ring. Harada gets some fighting spirit going a few minutes later, and it was more even from here. And the match gets hot in the third act with a nice nearfall-laden crescendo. Harada wins with a top rope German to become your new champion. The crowd wasn't huge, and wasn't necessarily hot, but they liked what they saw and didn't negatively impact my enjoyment of the match. |
