So they knew that Austin needed time off for his neck but on the day of the ppv, they do a bit of false advertising and do a bait and switch Angle that hurts the crowd reactions. A lot of matches suffered because of this so fuck this booking and this show"

[7.0] "Survivor Series 1999 was an action-packed show with lots of matches - just the way I like it. The pacing was nonstop, and the storylines were well-executed, making the time in front of the screen fly by. Best Match: Chyna (c) vs. Chris Jericho - full of emotion, great pace, and excellent execution. Worst Match: Eight-Woman Tag Team Match - chaotic, poorly structured, and unconvincing. In summary: a solid event with plenty of matches and memorable moments, though not every bout was of the same high quality."

[3.0] "The third controversial Survivor Series event in a row but while I personally enjoyed the 1997 and 1998 shows, I hated this one. The bait and switch booking absolutely killed the crowd on this show and after the major angle with Austin getting run over everything just felt really flat. The main event itself was okay, but it just wasn't the match fans wanted to see. The main highlights of the show for me was Jericho v Chyna, Kurt Angle's debut and the Survivor Series match with the Hardys and Edge and Christian vs Too Cool and The Hollys. Even taking the false advertisement that clearly hurt this show out of the equation, it just felt like the writers was clueless as to how to book a Survivor Series PPV because all but one of the traditional matches was pure filler and there was also matches like Kane vs X-Pac which got no time at all."

[4.0] "Ultimately a pretty mid Pay-per-View. A good chunk of 1999 WWF was in a weird place, with a lot of colorful and very over gimmicks given to guys who couldn't really work worth a damn, goofball match booking, and ridiculous finishes. That was kind of the order of the day. None of the actual Survivor Series tag matches were particularly good, save perhaps the last one with the Hardys and Edge and Christian, but that was mostly just thanks to the two teams and less their opponents. I mean, we had to suffer through the Mean Street Posse, the Headbangers dressed as pimps, the entirety of the women's segment, and some truly dreadful bickering commentary from Lawler and JR that made me want to poke my eyes out. The highlight was perhaps the main event, but that was mostly due to the crowd reaction and heat more than anything else. Really just a show that deserves to be remembered solely for Austin getting hit with a car (bad) and Angel debuting and having his first match (good)."

[4.0] "Quite honestly, I'd HAVE to say this is one of the worst Survivor Series events in company history. Usually, I love Survivor Series and find Summerslam overrated, but in '99, Summerslam was fantastic, and this show was pretty poor. It never really ever hit 'bad' territory, but it just seemed like match after match they dragged out was mediocre or okay. Even the main event didn't fair much better. Not a dreadful show, but not one I can rewatch with any regularity."

[5.0] "This was a pretty lackluster show with the Austin angle obviously changing the dynamics of the night. Kurt Angle's debut as well as The Hardy's/E&C match were very solid as well the opener and main event, but the rest of the card just felt like filler with matches that felt like they should have been more important than they ended up feeling like the IC title match, the Kane vs. X-Pac match, and the tag title match. The double suplex Big Show takes through the announce table was an awesome visual and to me definitley the spot of the night. For this being Survivor Series it felt like quite the let down and will be remembered as the night Austin was ran down. 2.5 stars."

[3.0] "Everything that you expect from the 1999 WWF. A couple of just barely okay matches, a few horrendous ones wiht women's one leading the line and a garbage brawl in the main event. Elimination Matches were nothing special, but the opener was probably the best one of them. Women's match absolutely sucked, Kane vs X-Pac was too short to right anything home about and Chyna vs Jericho only showed what a horrible worker Chyna is. The WWF Tag Team Titles match was just boring with Foley barely moving at this point and the main event was the worst thing on the show, it being a typical Attitude Era brawl where no story is being told for the whole match. At least Angle had a very impressive showing in his debut against Stasiak, but everything else was a chore once again."

[6.0] "Entertaining car wreck. If you want great all time matches, this ain't it. This was not the time for 5 star bangers. There wasn't even a match I would even consider par or 2.5 stars. However, this was oddly entertaining. I put it on in the background while I was doing other things as I do and it's the first in a while I wanted to write a review on. The first match was a bit of a cringe for 2024 but put yourself in 1999 it was stupid fun. Definitely not one I would ever recommend except for a case study for a retrospective. Kurt Angle's debut was boring, but at least he got on the mic for a moment for some heat. The next survivor series match was kinda of an oddball one not sure why these groups got together but I was amused by the sex jazz music team then Blackman come out. Forgot about the Mean Street Posse but they did the job, and Bulldog looked his best. Women's match was the worst of the car wreck, it was so bad but I couldn't look away. Big show wins his handicap match in no time just to win the championship at the end of the night, what a night for him. Chyna's intercontinental championship win here for a momentus occasion in an ok match. Last survivor match had a lot happen but still wasn't a good match. I actually liked the tag match. Main Event happened. This was such a product of it's time, it was full attitude era here and me a bit nostalgic of the bad 90's but so glad we are 25 years past this now."

[2.0] "This was a really bad Survivor Series, as most of the elimination matches were complete filler and not even good, such as the average opener and the bad Bulldog/Posse elimination match, the Big Show match was a complete squash of the big man heels, the women's match was awful, Kane/X-Pac was extremely short, Angle/Stasiak was a dull squash and a poor way to debut Angle (who overcame it easily by sheer talent and charisma), and the main event featured Big Show winning the title, where he'd defend it against Bossman at the next PPV in a midcard match. Yeah."

[3.0] "An painfully boring show with some god awful booking. Opener elimination tag is an innofesnive silly bout that could've easily been on TV, D'Lo was the highlight (5/10) The Second elimination tag was just plain bad, Bulldog was way past his prime but still was the best worker in the match, it didn't have any reason to go near 10 minutes (3/10)Angle's debut against Stasiak was decent enough considering his experience level, but nothing PPV level (4/10) The women's match was dreadful, short and had two women who were way past retirement age wrestling (0/10) Kane vs X Pac is fine for as long as it lasts until we get the cheap DQ finish that would fit better on a RAW match, not on PPV (4/10) Third Elimination tag is just an absolutely pointless squash and ends with a count out (0/10) In the IC title match Jericho tries his best to get a good match out of Chyna and we get at least a passable one, some sloppyness here and there but better than most of the card (5/10) The Final elimination tag is MOTN by far, fast paced and energetic from the start with a great highflying showcase from Jeff Hardy and some cool teamwork by everyone (7/10) Tag title match was just an incredibly boring brawl that went on for way too long (3/10) And the Main event was bang average at best but with a lot of interference as usual, it never got exciting either (5/10) Add to that the bait and switch with austin and commentary not caring about almost any match and this felt like a sub par episode of RAW"

[4.0] "There is some hot garbage on this show with the Women's elimination match which was near peak of the WWF Women's division dark ages, and the elimination match between team Show and Bossman was just jobberific trash. They could have stood to cut some matches from the show and this PPV also showed how out of touch and archaic the elimination tag matches were as there was really no long term story build for anyone to care about the teams. Survivor Series worked better back in the golden age of the WWF when you had clear cut Hero's and the Rogues gallery, but when everybody is switching allegiances on a weekly basis, it's kind of pointless."

[4.0] "Not exactly a good PPV, it isn't bad either but sewing what we've had in 99 so far I'll take it. There's some solid stuff with Chyna/Jericho, Holly's and too cool vs the Hardy's, Edge & Christian, the main event is good as well. Everything else is meh but luckily some of the stuff isn't too long, also Kurt Angle made his debut at this PPV which is cool. Matches from best to worst: Too Cool and Holly's vs Edge & Christian ***1/4, Rock/Show/Triple H ***1/4, Chyna/Jericho ***, Opener **3/4, Angle/Stasiak **1/2, Outlaws/ Mankind & Snow **, Kane/X-Pac *, Henry team/Bulldog team , Big Show squash NR, women's tag NR"

[7.0] "SS 1999 was lots of problems: false advertising, The Big Show as a new champion, "Survivor Series" matches which doesn't mean anything... i know that... but you know what? All of this was a usual part of "Attitude era" craziness and chaotic booking. It always been like that in a 1999 and i dont see how all of this was any different of what WWE show us on TV at that time. It's all was just so much fun to me, i just cant be mad at this show. Thats like a biggest wrestilng trollings of "Attitude era". And you all have to admit, they finded a most creative way to pull off Steve Austin out of TV"
jackleone wrote on 05.02.2017:
[4.0] "An almost terrible event, if it wasn't for the main event. Steve Austin is out in an angle that would have worked better on Raw, so there is Big Show to take his place and the fans chanted for Austin all the time. Kurt Angle debut puts him as a heel because the crowd seems to not like him. There is some good stuff from the elimination tag team match but most of it is bad. The two Survivor Series match are really bad and uninteresting, it's not a strong show and even with the surprise in the main event it is an event that did not work."
