Xia Brookside

[1.0] "Considering the fact that Xia Brookside's father is considered a " British Wrestling Master" with a list of accolades a mile long (including duly influencing one William Regal in his own career) & an 8. 43 cagematch ranking, the fact that she can't work even remotely well after 10 years of experience indicates that she will probably never get much better. Absolutely everything she does in-ring is hella tentative & awkward, & while she admittedly does have the ability to make the rare, fleeting strike appear like it means anything, even these diamond-in-the-rough moments are duly marred by the fact that her physique is absolutely terrible; she's somehow even less physically imposing than Roxanne Perez! As though being completely impossible to take seriously as a physical force isn't enough of a detriment to Brookside, don't even get me started about her " aaangry" mid-match facials, or her painfully stilted, unnatural mic work. Much like any wrestler whom sucks, she has pumped out one or two (or one) fleeting 6/10's, but when you have a worker like this whose output tends to resolve to a baseline note of undiluted mediocrity to a tee, it should come as no surprise that I find it absolutely amazing that she's somehow snaked her way into huge promotions like NXT UK & TNA. TNA is a fed that has taken a very creatively-open stance with it's talent lately, but the fact that Brookside's theme song was recently allowed to be changed (at her behest) to a migraine-inducingly saccharine pop-punk track that sounds more like it belongs on the set of a teen comedy film than a wrestling program full of characters whom want to beat the shit out of eachother is due proof that sometimes, certain ideas should be rejected for the better good of creating characters for a wrestling program that are not completely impossible to take seriously. It would be a bald-faced lie to state something like she's similar to Shotzi Blackheart, for instance, because for what Shotzi may lack in fluid flow or very strong basics, she is able to transfer that lack of refinement into a certain " car crash" energy to an impressive degree, creating super fun hardcore & even good intergender matches almost anywhere she goes. Xia Brookside has none of these qualities, physically or creatively. I would say go back to the drawing board, but in this case, you should take the drawing board, douse it in gasoline, set it on fire, get into an airplane, and throw the on-fire drawing board into an active volcano. I need a seltzer."

[2.0] "I don't know. She has 10 years of experience yet she barely had any highlights in her career. I cannot remember any of her matches as memorable. I tried watching her matches but she's just awful to see. She wrestles like some sort of rookie. I don't get why they are pairing Lei Ying Lee (who's too good to be her tag partner) with her. BUT, she's not the worst wrestler I've ever seen from my perspective right now"

[3.0] "She's just a bit crap, isn't she. Despite 10 years of experience including going through the most expensive training school in the history of pro wrestling she still moves and works like a one legged duck on an iced over pond. If she is put in with someone much better than her, she can occasionally be guided to something watchable. Sort of. Taken enough head bumps to believe the moon is made out of cheese or whatever mental conspiracy theory she is currently into."

[8.0] "Xia Brookside is another example of someone who has ended up cut from WWE to go to TNA, but ends up working WWE NXT. That being said, she's fairly decent in the ring, you'd probably expect better but ultimately she's a good hand in the ring and you can't really go wrong"

"[8.0] Some of the comments here about Xia are truly awful with no fact or basis behind them. I've seen Xia wrestle live twice once with NXT UK in 2018 and once with Cornish Pro Wrestling back in March 2023. Yes her move set does leave a lot to be desired I'll grant the haters that, but she's a reliable worker who engages well with the fans in and out the ring. After having a meet and greet with her at the Cornish Pro Wrestling show I cannot fault her as a person outside of the ring, she truly is an absolute sweetheart who is wonderful with the fans young and old; true it must be difficult being compared to your father who was a wrestler himself but sadly thats the way of the stick sometimes. Given time I think something will finally click into place and we see Xia truly become a force in women's wrestling"

[6.0] "Dia's current TNA work isn't too bad at all. She's consistently solid in the ring and overall plays a nice white meat babyface. I feel she's lacking in physicality and character at times but she can pull off a good match against less seasoned wrestlers in TNA. Solid if not exceptional imo and probably needs a new finisher."

[8.0] "I'm watching her current work with very little idea of her past work and I have noticed that people have said that she was the weaker of the Club Venus members. I don't know how she performed way back in Japan, but watching her current work in TNA I am seeing someone with charisma, athleticism, speed, a decent moveset and good in ring psychology. Even if she's not an elite tier talent the bar has risen and she is every bit as good as the most popular women wrestlers from back in the day. I don't think a 4.83 rating for her is very reasonable for her or makes sense unless she was somehow significantly worse a year or two ago than she is now, which I find quite unlikely. I also don't think that criticizing her for having a Simple Plan theme makes much sense."

[6.0] "An okay wrestler nothing that stands out not being pushed in TNA stuck in a pretty dry feud with Ash By Elegance she needs a few title shots to prove her worth because at the minute it seems like TNA have no true direction for her"

[6.0] "Using derogatory terms like 'human trash' to describe a budding wrestler like Xia, who is just 25 years old and in the early stages of her career, is unduly harsh and objectionable. Despite being relatively inexperienced, Xia shows promising potential."

[1.0] "If the nullity had a name, it would be Xia Brookside. Absolutely lacking charisma and ability to be face to face, in the ring, with the best in the world. The only thing that favors it are 1 or 2 moves that are still relatively decent. Be that as it may, she is one of the least talented "talents" in all of European prowrestling."

[5.0] "Step-daughter of a legendary wrestler, Xia has been put in the spotlight long before she was ready. The truth is that she isn't bad, no. But she isn't good either. She is average, mediocre, in pretty much all aspects of wrestling. She looks like she just goes through the motions and does the bare minimum of what is asked of a wrestler wrestling for major promotions. I don't hate her, I just find her uninteresting."

[5.0] "I was interested in seeing her come back to Stardom this year for the first time in quite a while. She'd had a couple of Stardom tours previously and while she did somewhat have the crowd buy in to her, which was unusual for a touring gaijin at the time, she had a lot of in-ring sharpening up to do, so I was looking forward to seeing her improvements on this tour. Unfortunately she came back either the same or worse in all those improvement areas. Years onwards and she hasn't been able to break out of always just looking like she's going through the motions. I know she's young but no reason to assume she'll just get better with age unless she gets some proper training and experience under her belt. Those few years she spent in WWE to only wrestle in ~30 matches has absolutely hamstrung her progress."

"There is a lot of unnecessary criticism of xia, shes only 24 she has a lot of time to grow and get better, she can hold up in ring and she also is good at controlling the crowd. She would be a half decent pickup for any promotion besides aew, nxt or impact would be a great suit for her. I wish to see more of her in Stardom soon."

[2.0] "The idea of a heel turn is great, but she just doesn't seem to be up to scratch unfortunately. Wonder if she's got a shot because of who her Step-Dad is. Watched her a lot during her indie days, has always just seemed a basic wrestler. Maybe the big stage too early, she just doesn't seem to have the natural ability"

[5.0] "Xia is very cute, no doubt about it. I will even admit that she is one of the most beautiful gals in wrestling today. However, it takes more than good looks to win wrestling matches and Xia may be a little too frail to go up against women who are stronger and bigger. Having said that, I do like Xia and honestly hope that she is able to keep improving her skills and that she stays in the wrestling business for many years. She does have some quickness, so do not count her out quite yet.... Xia has shown real improvement in her recent matches and even gave the NXT UK champion a good match. I am raising her score to a 5."

[6.0] "She's rather ok in all aspects but unimpressive in all as well. I'm intrigued by her new heel persona and I hope she switches it up a notch."

[6.0] "Xia is still young & she still has time to improve. She's fine in the sympathetic babyface role for now & works as an enhancement talent to get other, stronger heels over. I will say that she needs to bulk up if she ever wants to break out of the enhancement talent role. She also need to get more confidence talking & being a character."

[2.0] "Her father has done a great job in allowing her to be hired by the British NXT brand, because her level is very poor, I have always believed that the gaijins use the joshi scene to improve but in Xia apparently her years in Japan did not help her in nothing."

[3.0] "I have to agree with some of the previous commenters: more often than not Xia Brookside looks like she'd like to be anywhere but in a pro-wrestling ring and she doesn't appear to be making any real effort to get better. Look at any joshi wrestler about her age for comparison. Xia Brookside seems to have basically stopped caring the moment her father managed to get her hired for NXT UK: I used to cut her some slack "because she's so young" but it's beyond obvious there's something worse than mere youth and lack of experience at work here. Maybe she'll change and mature with time."

What a legacy, I guess. She doesn? t seem like she enjoys wrestling at all, looking bored 99% of the time and doing very bland and basic moves in ring"

[6.0] "Xia is very young, so she has years to develop her craft. My only disappointment is from her ring entrance, when they say that Liverpool is her "hometown". As a fellow Leicesteronian, that is grating to hear!"
