It got and continues to get old to just see Sting show up with a bat and fly away. Surfer Sting would be my pick for the 8 Rating wrestler, and I thought he did a pretty good job as a face at that time. Good power shtick and had some memorable matches in the old NWA. I think his longevity has been admirable, and he seems like a great person. Just never fell in love with the character."

A well-respected wrestler who's worked across decades until his retirement in 2024, Sting is undoubtedly one of the best gimmicks ever and Steve Borden is apparently a top notch guy in real life. 10 is a fair rating."

One couldn't be bothered to learn a headlock or even how to land, the other retired happily at 64 going down as a legend across 2/3 companies. Sting is one of the great anti heroes in 'rasslin being one of the last stands of hope & resistance against the all encompassing NWO, Dodged WWE until his 50s and was always a welcome cameo in AEW getting his Wembley moment in 2023."

[10.0] "A truly respected legend of professional wrestling, who managed to shine in multiple eras. Aside from his misfire of a WWE run in the 2010's that was bogged down by poor booking and an injury that nearly ended it all, Sting has had a near flawless career - caped off with a legacy tag team run alongside Darby Allin in AEW which exceeded all expectations for him in his 60's. Sting's influence on wrestling will be felt for generations to come, and for all the right reasons. His matches were great, his character work second to none, and is aura was off the charts. Few deserve the title of Legend more than Sting."

[8.0] "Sting - a legend in 3 companies (NWA/WCW, TNA, AEW) and star in 5 different decades (80s, 90s, 2000s, 2010s and 2020s), the greatest career of any American to never be WWE champion? Probably. 6x WCW World Heavyweight Champion, 4x TNA World Heavyweight Champion, 2x NWA World Heavyweight Champion, 2x WCW International World Heavyweight Champion and the achievements just go on and on. Sting is also significant for some incredibly important draws - the first ever Clash of the Champions and the highest selling Starrcade, certified legend. Sting went through many different gimmicks - my favourite are his blonde surfer Sting and Crow Sting, both gimmicks made Sting maybe the greatest babyface in North America, blonde Sting through his energy and excitement factor, crow sting through his aura and character. I don't think Sting was a great match machine like a Misawa, Kobashi or Kurt Angle but he did have some great matches with the likes of Cactus Jack, Vader, Diamond Dallas Page and AJ Styles. And his promo ability was top tier, his first nitro promo after Bash at the Beach 1996 was absolutely brilliant. Saw him live in London in 2012 - can't really remember it, and again in 2023 - didn't have my glasses so couldn't see properly but I'm happy to have seen him. With better booking especially in 1990 and 1997-2000, Sting could have had an even better career. My personal favourite version of Sting is blonde Sting.."

He could move, he could cut some solid promos, great Crow inspired(thanks to Scott Hall) gimmick in WCW and was an accountable veteran in TNA. He faced Hogan, Flair, Styles, Angle, Jarrett and stole the show everytime imo. OH MY GOD, IT'S THE ICON! IT'S STING!"

From the colorful face paint and wild charisma in WCW to his dark, mysterious Crow persona and even his final run in AEW, he constantly evolved without losing what made him special. Few can say they wrestled across five decades and still delivered memorable moments. That retirement match in 2024 was the perfect sendoff. Absolute legend."

With decades of influence and presence, Sting remains one of wrestling's most respected icons"

I first became a big fan at The Great American Bah 1989 when he came out to help Ric Flair brawl with Terry Funk and Great Muta and then that whole year-long storyline between him and Flair had me captivated. After Hulk Hogan's arrival into WCW, he seemed kind of lost in the shuffle, searching for his place, but Hogan turned his back and formed the nWo, Sting went dark and spearheaded the biggest storyline in wrestling history. Then, he went to TNA for many years, which I'm still catching up on, and finally made his debut in WWE after Survivor Series to scream Triple H out of a victory. The fact they jobbed him out there still irritates me, but his final run in AEW with Darby Allin was nothing short of brilliant. Sting was a legend, plain and simple."

[8.0] "I feel bad even saying this because Sting really is an Icon, a pillar of professional wrestling, but holy God is he overrated as all hell in-ring. He's an all time great storyteller with a timeless gimmick, but he's really not the guy you look to (despite his reputation for in-ring prowess) to elevate a guy. he's the worlds greatest dance partner who's presented as the lead. All of his classic singles bouts are with all time great workers exclusively. He's still a very good wrestler, don't get me wrong. It's just weird how people look at even a young Sting (which people refer to as his physical prim), and say with a straight face that he was anywhere close to guys like Ric or Barry. Sorry if this comment felt overwhelmingly negative, I love Sting. He's great. It's just a nitpick that I have that I never see highlighted in the way people do when they're discussing someone like Chris Jericho through a critical lens. I just figured i'd throw this perspective out there."

[10.0] "From humble beginnings in The Blade Runners tag team where he was, along with his partner, a godawful performer in the ring, then goes on to become a legend in the business. Unlike Warrior, Sting went on to improve massively as a wrestler and had longevity on his side. Sting truly began in WCW in the late 1980s/mid 1990s as the surfer Sting where he had bright neon colors and bleach blond hair, where he was a white hot babyface and played it to perfection. Most notable feuds during this time where with Ric Flair and Vader, which you could make the case that it's the best David vs Goliath feud of all time. Then the late 1990s came around, the culture as a whole changed and so did Sting, where we got the gimmick he's been riding with since then, The Crow inspired gimmick. While Sting's surfer gimmick gave us his best match, Sting's crow gimmick was where the charisma was being showcased, always captivating despite never saying a word (ignore the bad bookings during that time). Sting's run in TNA was also great, his WWE run wasn't and his current stint in AEW is great, the prime example of how to book an established legend. Overall, Sting is one of the all time greats to ever do it, he was the total package if you ask me, he deserves every ounce of praise he gets from the fans and his peers"

[8.0] "A man with the charisma to elevate multiple companies even at their lowest creative and financial ebbs, but by and large not an overly enchanting in-ring worker. Most of his best work is confined to individual matches, and what should have been some of the biggest moments of his career if not American pro wrestling fall flat thanks to some sloppy execution that can mostly be blamed on bad WCW and TNA booking but also reserves a share of the blame for his bland, limited moveset and moderate at best pace. The crazy thing though is I would have him rated lower if not for the final, wholly unexpected stretch of a career that had seemed over; somehow, his AEW work was the most consistently well-executed character and ring work of his career, adapted perfectly to his age while making him feel younger than he'd seemed a full decade earlier. It was a wonderful way to send off a man who, for all his flaws, was an undeniable legend and a big draw, and it was great to see work worthy of his presence."

"There isn't much that hasn't been said about Sting that there is left to say. One of the most consistent wrestlers for multiple decades, holding a place at the top of the card and selling out arenas for over 30 years. His avoidance of WWE was valid as that was easily the worst run of his career, albeit he was never treated like less than a main eventer. One of the legitimizers of early TNA, then staying around all the way to join AEW, he proved that his longevity was unmatched. Even in older age, his style adapted well, and was still able to be over with audiences all the way through his last days as a performer. Truly one of the all time non WWE greats."

[10.0] "Sting is one of the most iconic and enduring figures in wrestling history. He started as Surfer Sting, the colorful, high-energy face of WCW in the late '80s and early '90s. His charisma, athleticism, and connection with the fans made him the ultimate babyface, leading to legendary feuds with Ric Flair, Vader, and The Four Horsemen. Then came Crow Sting, a transformation that elevated him to mythic status. In the midst of the Monday Night Wars, he became WCW's answer to The Undertaker--silent, mysterious, and larger than life. His year-long build to Starrcade '97 against Hollywood Hogan remains one of the best storylines of all time, proving how special he was without even saying a word. He was WCW's heart and soul, their biggest star, and the one man fans believed in as the company fought against WWE. Even after WCW folded, Sting never lost his aura. He reinvented himself in TNA, had some great matches in his later years, and finally made his long-awaited WWE debut in 2014, proving his impact transcended any one company. But it was his AEW run that truly cemented his longevity--wrestling into his 60s, still delivering, still captivating audiences, and ending his career on his terms. Few wrestlers have ever had the deep connection with fans that Sting has. Whether it was his electric energy as Surfer Sting or his mystique as the Crow, he always had the crowd in the palm of his hand. His legacy is untouchable--an icon across multiple eras, a defining figure of WCW, and one of wrestling's greatest of all time."

That is until he came to AEW, and proceeded to have the best run in AEW history. Even though he was protected in tag matches, he still put on barnburners at 63 years old with bumps through tables, dives off stages, and playing the hits like the 6 years he spent in retirement didnt even happen. And that doesnt even scratch the surface of what hes done; hes had all-time great feuds with Ric Flair and Vader, set the standard for retirement matches that John Cena and Hiroshi Tanahashi should be working their asses off to top within the next year, and was always over with the fans. Even though showtime is over for Steve Borden, hes finally able to look back and smile, because he may have had the greatest career a pro wrestler has ever had."

I had only known the WWF and World of Sport by then, and was interested in there being other American wrestling. They told me WCW was real. Of course it wasn't, but when I started watching, the connection this tanned dude with face paint and a blonde crew cut had with the fans was incredible, and the battles he had with the likes of Vader, Rick Rude, Cactus Jack and Ric Flair. Then the Surfer morphed into The Crow to battle the evil New World Order led by Hollywood Hogan (we won't speak of the match, or then him joining the nWo, albeit the babyface version the Wolfpac). After the end of WCW, Sting eventually joined TNA, and was the bridge from one era to the next. Things weren't perfect there, but his run in the Main Event Mafia and then as "Joker Sting" were memorable. It was cool then to see him against younger guys like AJ Styles and Samoa Joe. The much hyped WWE run didn't go well with a badly booked match against Triple H, and the match with Seth Rollins where we thought his career was over. But then came the AEW run that gave Sting the respect he truly deserved, where he exclusively teamed with Darby Allin, and was awesome every time. Seeing him in New York City where he reunited with The Great Muta, and at Wembley Stadium in front of the largest crowd he ever wrestled in front of were great all time live memories for me personally. Sting has been a constant for the majority of my time as a wrestling fan, and I will be very sad to see him go, but at the same time, very happy it's on his own terms and as a celebration of his lengthy, glorious career."

"Out of all of the big names in western wrestling throughout the 80s and 90s, Sting is easily my favourite. The fact that he is still going strong and doing crazy spots in AEW is a testament to his genuine love for professional wrestling. He is retiring in less than a month as I write this, but what a career it has been for Stinger. (10/10)"

From his glory days in WCW, to his usually-fun TNA run, to the phenomenal last few years in AEW, Sting has proven time and time again, decade after decade, how incredible he is."

Sting almost single-handedly kept the company afloat with memorable feuds against Vader, Steve Austin and Mick Foley. The second half of the 90s were a difficult time, with bad writing and backstage politics leading to the infamous botch of Starrcade 97, but the fans still loved the man in spite of it. As an in-ring performer he was an 8, about 6 on a promo and 10 on a look. Sting is an example of a very good, but not great worker, yet his charisma more than makes up for that."

[6.0] "Sting hasn't really been good since the mid-90s and while his late 90's gimmick in WCW was pretty cool, he couldn't deliver in the ring on the same level. He's stayed way too long in the business and has become nothing more than a "nostalgia act" reminding people when wrestling was really popular and cool. Overall one of the more overrated "legends" who peaked in the late 80's, early 90's and has been riding that wave way longer than he should have. Sting has been too reliant on coasting on people's nostalgia for him the 2nd half of his career simply to cash more checks. Solid during his peak, but wildly overrated in the grand scheme of things."
