[6.0] "Not a bad first G1 Climax. Nothing blow-away great, but there are definitely some solid matches here, especially the finals. There's also nothing really bad. A shame that one of the shows wasn't taped and can only be viewed through a fancam. Tragic stuff."
[9.0] "The first G1 Climax tournament, not a lot of participants but they're all big names and had (mostly) great matches culminating in an historic final, in a unique atmosphere with the MVP of the tournament winning. For a 4 days tournament it was quite impressive. This is an excellent foundation for what has become the most prestigious and anticipated tournament in wrestling."
[8.0] "That was a very good tournament. Chono and Hashimoto gave us two excellent matches (clearly the best fights of the event, in my opinion) and most participants delivered well. Only Scott Norton was below the global level (quite a good match against Vader, tho). Vader and Mutoh constitute the big four of the competition with Chono and Hashimoto, even if the semi-final between Mutoh and Vader seems a little bit overrated to me (I think that the fan-cam effect, with the fantastic crowd reactions, did a lot for this one. Not to mention the Meltzer's rating, obviously). I was quite disappointed with the way that Fujinami was eliminated. He deserved better, if you ask me. Not the best tournament you'll ever see if you are interested in this sort of events, but it remains a pleasant one."
[8.0] "The tournament was very good. Had there been more participants and more matches and, by extension, more excellent matches the rating would be higher. Having only four days there is more room for the score to be affected by bad or weaker matches. Nevertheless, Most matches were at least good with only two being bad. The MVP of the tournament all around for me was Masahiro Chono. He was amazing in all his matches. Riki Choshu, Shinya Hashimoto twice (both being excellent), Bam Bam Bigelow, and Keiji Muto in the finals. Seeing him throughout the tournament has really made me a fan of his. If I were to pick an MVP for the A block, I would pick Big Van Vader since he was really great against all his opponents and had the best match of the night twice being against Tatsumi Fujinami and Keiji Muto. the top 4 matches of the tournament were 1. Chono vs Muto 2. Chono vs Hashimoto 3. Muto vs Vader 4. Chono vs Hashimoto II. The two worst matches were Bigelow vs Hashimoto on night 1 and Fujinami vs Norton on night 3."
