I was more of a fan of the realistic style of the NWA. It was here that they were THE bada**es with a unique look that was the 1st of its kind. When they entered the WWF, they took on the more cartoonish angle to their characters but that really wasn't their fault as much as it was Vince's."

[10.0] "Had a really firm grasp of what his character is/was. He knew what he needed to do or what needed to be done during the course of matches on his part to keep that road warrior presentation/how they were booked over, so a lot of the critique that you would normally see people give him you won't see from me. If anything, I applaud him for being that protective of the brand of work that he (along with Animal) built. Add to that, I felt he was more well verse in the ring in regards to style compared to Animal. It wasn't above Hawk to hit someone with a flying shoulder tackle or a flying clothesline from the top rope, or a standing fist drop from the middle rope, amidst the brawling style, and power moves that he usually brought to the table. He was one of the most underrated promos of all time in my opinion, especially for the era that he was in, and the fact that the majority of his run consisted of him being in a tag team as opposed to being a singles competitor. Something else that I don't think he gets a lot of credit for is his role in the LOD theme music in WWF, you could've pegged that "oh what a rush" line on anyone else, and it would've sounded corny as all get out, but when Hawk said it, being they were who they were, it sounded so bad ass, and added that extra layer to their entrance to really set the tone for what was to come."
[7.0] "Road Warriors were one of the greatest tag teams of all times. Outside of his team with Road Warrior Animal Hawk did not do too much in pro wrestling. His addiction and ego hurt him at times as revealed in Dark Side of the ring. Stil he should be remembered for his role in the iconic tag team."
[6.0] "Had the look, good mic skills and a good power wrestler, but his no selling used to bug the hell out of me. Plus Hawk was becoming unreasonable by late 91 and a pain in the ass for Vince who just wanted to get the belts off him and Animal but Hawk was stubborn about jobbing. [9.0] "Edited for clarity: Right away we deduct points for the over abundance of double count out finishes. At some point, a booker gave him leeway to refuse to be pinned or be "beaten convincingly" and he made a deeply unfortunate habit of non finishes that were almost always booed/poorly received. Absurd charisma though; one hell of an amazing promo that makes me laaaugh and feel really bad for some of his foes. The WWF run was crap, I didn't like it as a young lad and as an adult - it's a fart (especially the Rocco debacle). He had chemistry with many and could work a pretty good match when he wanted to, but again his refusal to go with clean losses make practically every match predictable: Hawk is either going to go over looking STRONG or there will be a big brawl resulting in everyone ending up outside for a double count out - or inside for a double disqualification. While he could work some damn good stuff with some - others he made look weak when it was unnecessary (no selling EVERY piledriver was detrimental to the product). Despite his shortcomings, Hawk could hold his own as a singles competitor and had potential beyond the Road Warriors but personal decisions and lifestyle choices prevented that; furthermore, his "off nights" could be blatantly, brutally, terrible. His promo skills can not be praised enough - go back and watch every non-WWF promo of his ever (a good one is on WCW Saturday Night, Oct 30th 1993 @ 53:45). Rest in peace you maniac. 8.5 rounded up."
[6.0] "Another very hard to rate wrestler. In the ring, and on the mic, he was the better of the two but that's not really saying much. Incredible aura, was miles ahead in the body and chems department and just walked around like they were FIST OF THE NORTH STAR anime villains! But wrestling skill wise, he was just an ugly brawler with a few slow power moves. Then factor in the constant no-selling, refusal to give up clean losses TO THE POINT IT STOOD OUT IN NWA, land of the dusty finish? That's all you need to say. Combine this and his general crappiness - it drags it all down. Funny thing I realized: all the knockoffs of LOD/RW were better in all ways except aura and body."
[4.0] "Hawk is a well known no seller. And started the trend of other face painted wrestlers no selling moves to get over. Not a big fan of his work but I respect his accomplishments"
[6.0] "Because of nostalgia bias, I give him an 8. Great gimmick, the look, one of the very first wrestlers I have ever seen (along with the Power Warrior as Hell Raisers - as I said elsewhere, I never knew Animal existed until like 97, because I have never seen Road Warriors/LOD before that, while I knew Hawk since 1992 during his Japan run). What I really-really-really dislike about Hawk is the no selling of big moves. Standing up right after receiving a piledriver etc - because of that, I would love to give him rating of 1, because it totally killed wrestling. Not necessarily his fault though, it should have never been allowed. Roll out of the ring, get up by sitting up on your ass, while holding, massaging your neck and stumble to your feet - OK - so you are really tough, it hurt you, but not much, that is amazing. But he would get up before the guy who gave him the move, not looking fazed at all - that just screams wrestling is fake. It? s like watching a great film but the boom mic is getting in the shot repeatedly- yeah, you know it s a movie, but you don t want to think about it as a movie, you want to enjoy the experience, suspend your disbelief- that s what wrestling is all about. OK, I will give him a lower rating now and I will do the same for Hogan, for doing the same thing. It? s just too important for me."
[8.0] "Honestly, Hawk in a different timeline could have been a solid solo wrestler. Despite the brawler gimmick of LOD restricting what they could do in the ring (basically no selling offence, slow power moves, etc) Hawk could legitimately work when required and his unique high flying offence and surprising speed in the ring was very impressive of a guy his size. Could speak on the mic just fine (unlike Animal, who was considerably less exciting) and helped balance out the slow moments of their tag matches. Shame that his personal vices eventually caught up with him, considering he could have made something of himself in the wrestling business outside of in ring work."

[7.0] "Better than Animal. More a tag team specialist. His work was amazing with a strong physique. He was also not bad wtih Kensuke Sasaki as the Power Warrior in Japan. Unfortunately drug and alcohol got in the way and killed him. The storyline in WWF they did in 1998 with his addictions and committing suicide was horrible."

[9.0] "Half of my all-time favorite tag team, Hawk brought a different but perfectly-complimentary style to the ring than his partner. Though both men were powerhouses, Hawk also had a tendency to take to the air, using flying clotheslines and shoulderblocks with a greater ease than you'd expect from a man of his stature. He and Animal were both always entertaining on the mic, and Hawk often came across as the more unhinged of the duo. Though at his best when teaming with Animal, Hawk also did have some success outside the team, successfully tagging with Power Warrior (Kensuke Sasaki) in Japan, and earning the only singles title between he and Animal with a run with the CWA World Heavyweight Title in 1993. Sadly, personal issues caught up with him as he passed away in 2003, leaving Animal to carry on the Road Warriors legacy."
[10.0] "One half of the greatest tag team in history. Fantastic on the mic. A rare blend of power and high flying. Very solid as a singles wrestler, but he could not surpass the tag team brand. Nothing not to like about his body of work, he will go down as a tag team legend."
[2.0] "Once again I want to comment on this because I'm in the minority. I won't say LOD are a great team just because they got titles. Out of the huge amount of big match they had together only a few are actually goog/very good. Actually I can't think of a match i'd rate at *** 3/4 + with these two. They were pretty much the equivalent of Ultimate Warrior or Hogan for tag teams, big push and aura but not that many standout matches overall considering the push. Now, what about Hawk himself? I've always prefered Aniaml because I feel he is more smart in the ring, didn't do the "no sells" Hawk used to do every match. Moreover, I've seen A LOT of Hellraisers matches (with Sasaki in njpw) and he was sooo bad. Most of the time because of all the "no sell" moments, and also because, exept for a couple of big moves, he doesn't add anything there, and doesn't follow the storytelling and the situations of the match. It's a shame because he had very good athletic ablities and some good moves but he never manage to use them efficiently toward good match, only toward getting over as a threat, which is not my thing."

[8.0] "Etwas ausdrucksstärker als sein Partner Animal und auch etwas intensiver am Mic. Als Team waren beide sehr präsent und haben sich überall auf der Welt einen Namen gemacht. Die Road Warriors sind eine echte Marke und unverwechselbar, sowohl was ihren Stil, ihre Interviews, als auch die Ringkleidung betraf. Auf Solopfaden konnte man beide nie richtig ernst nehmen, sie gehörten zusammen in den Ring."
[7.0] "Hawk hat als Solo - Künstler besser funktioniert, weil er der bessere Redner und Entertainer der LoD war, aber das immer noch auf einem überschaubaren Niveau. Er ist, wie sein Partner, leider Gottes von Terroristen gewaltsam in den 80ern festgehalten und dann, in der LoD2000 - Phase, brutal von der Zeit überrollt worden. Dafür hat er in Japan mit Sasaki ein fast noch cooleres Team gebildet als die LoD. Top Teamwrestler, mauer Solo-Wrestler. Und 'ne Flying Clothesline als Finisher geht GAR NICHT! Ruhe in Frieden, Mann."
[8.0] "Ich kann Hawk alleine nicht bewerten, deshalb bewerte ich sie zusammen. Sie zählen zu den besten Tag Team Wrestler hatten gute Matches, eigentlich gegen fast jeden, doch mir fehlte irgendetwas an ihnen. R. I. P Road Warrior Hawk."
[7.0] "Der stärkere und charismatischere Teil der Legion Of Doom. Beide einzeln für sich sind wenig überzeugend, jedoch als Mischung wie Nitro & Glycerin gewesen. Wirkte beizeiten etwas hüftsteif und hatte wohl auch seine Negativerfahrungen mit dem Alkohol - hat mich jedoch ohne wrestlerisch vollends zu überzeugen meist gut unterhalten. "Oh whatta' Rush ! " ... leider einer von einer ganzen Reihe von viel zu früh von uns gegangenen Wrestlinglegenden."
[10.0] "Ganz klar mein Lieblingstagteam, was schon jetzt in die Geschichte eingegangen ist. Auch klar der bessere im Team, obwohl ich Hawk und Animal zu ihren besten Zeiten ziemlich gleichwertig fand. Viel zu früh von uns gegangen."
[9.0] "Sehr gutes überzeugendes und unterhaltsames Power-House, der die LOD/Road Warriors ausgemacht hat, da der farblose dicke Animal für mich ersetzbar war. Wäre als Einzelwrestler sicherlich auch was großes geworden."

Für mich insgesamt nur ne 3 das liegt aber villeicht auch daran dass Tag Teams für mich keinen Kultstatus haben."
[8.0] "Vom Namen her eines der bekanntesten und größten Tag Teams, aber die Fähigkeiten im Ring ließen meiner Meinung nach bei beiden zu wünschen ürbig. Dennoch war Hawk der bessere Wrestler von beiden, und stand auch etwas mehr im Vordergrund. Ich geb hier nur die 8 Punkte, da ich mich damals als Kind von dem Hype als sie in die WWF kamen etwas mitreißen ließ."

[6.0] "Die LOD hatte einfach eine unheimliche Strahlkraft, die über die Schwachstellen im Ring hinwegsehen ließ. In meinen Augen war Hawk immer der auffälligere der Beiden."
[8.0] "Klar, wrestlerisch ging bei der Legion Of Doom bzw. den Road Warriors immer einiges unter, aber darum ging es bei dem Gimmick auch überhaupt nicht. Was an Technik fehlte, wurde durch gute Brawling-Künste und Powermoves wieder gut gemacht. Und sind wir mal ehrlich: Wer hat es nicht geliebt, Hawk und Animal dabei zuzusehen, wie sie irgendwelche Jobber-Teams auseinander nahmen? Schade, daß Hawk so früh von uns ging. Den ein oder anderen Auftritt bei WWE hätte ich ihm gegönnt. Erst recht, da das Projekt "LOD 2000" so gnadenlos gescheitert ist."
