[7.0] "Matt Cross is one of those wrestlers whose reputation as a respected veteran slightly outpaces the tangible highs of his résumé. Despite working for nearly every notable promotion imaginable, he never quite secured a sustained run in WWE, TNA, AEW, ROH, or Japan. Lucha Underground was undeniably his clearest moment in the spotlight, where his work as Son of Havoc showcased his athleticism, timing, and ability to stand out in a highly stylized environment. Outside of that, his career has largely been defined by floating between the upper card of mid-sized indies and the midcard of larger ones. That isn't a knock on his talent. In-ring, Cross has always been reliably good: smooth, technically sound, athletic, and professional to the core. He understands match structure, makes opponents look good, and rarely has outright bad performances. His promos are serviceable rather than compelling, and while his look is strong and distinctive, it has never quite translated into must-see star power at the highest level. There's a lingering sense of untapped potential; like watching a genuinely skilled athlete who never quite gets the call-up, despite clearly belonging in the conversation. At this stage, age is beginning to show, not disastrously, but enough to cap his ceiling. He remains valuable as a veteran presence, a steady hand, and someone who can elevate others, but the window for a true late-career breakout feels closed. A run in a promotion like JCW, where his experience could be maximized and his limitations better hidden, would make a lot of sense. Overall, Matt Cross is a very good wrestler with a respectable career, even if it never quite matched the promise his talent once suggested."

[7.0] "It's interesting that Matt Cross is such a long-time respected veteran when he never really had any lengthy runs with WWE, TNA, AEW, ROH, anywhere in Japan, etc. Really Lucha Underground was his only moment in the sun, and to be fair he did a great job as Son of Havoc. But other than that he's just kinda floated around the main event scene of mid-sized indies and the midcard scene of large-sized indies. Which is fine, don't get me wrong. It's just a little bit frustrating, like watching a great pro baseball player that is always stuck at the top of the rotation of a Double-A team. Matt's really solid in the ring and an OK promo, with a great look and work ethic, but age is catching up to him, and it'd be nice to see him have at least one more run on TV somewhere."

[6.0] "One of the most athletic pure indie stars who never really made it. Well, he did get his biggest break on Lucha Underground as Son of Havoc... but after checking out his indie work you would have thought he might have made a bigger splash than he has thus far. It seems like his rather shy demeanor is what has really held him back. It's what got him kicked off Tough Enough so early. On Lucha Underground, he was a decent mid card to lower tier act, but was obviously not ever going to be a real money draw. He has athleticism & passion for days... just missing the "it factor" to ever make more of a name."

He has the incredible agility and can fly unbelievably despite his size. I really look forward to seeing him in some higher up places."

Truly one of the underrated influences on the current indy wrestling scene. Just as important as a Low Ki or Amazing Red or Brian Kendrick."

[10.0] "Matt cross has always been one of the most acrobatically gifted performers, but his work in Lucha Underground has demonstrated that he is one of the best entertainers of all time. The first few weeks were a little rough, but now he's the stand out star of that promotion. He's a phenomenal athlete that can read the crowd and suck them in. His promos have become awesome and his moves are killer. The chemistry he has with Ivelisse and Angelico is amazing."

DanTalksRasslin wrote on 19.08.2015:
[8.0] "After plying his trade on the independent scene for well over a decade and a half, Cross is finally getting his due in Lucha Underground as Son of Havoc. His hard work in the ring, silky-smooth high-flying offense and strong mic skills led the crowd to taking to a character presented first as a villain and then a hard-luck story, and it paid off with a run as one of the inaugural LU Trios Champions alongside Ivelisse Velez and Angelico. This success should serve as a springboard to bigger things for Cross in the near future, whether it's under the Son of Havoc hood or not."
