Haku & The Barbarian vs. Marty Jannetty & Shawn Michaels

[7.0] "One of the better matches lower down the card on any of the manias so far. This newer wave of wrestlers that have been appearing in the last couple of shows have been a breath of fresh air. Marty and Shawn feel like they are from an entirely different world. Really good match."

[6.0] "A decent match that works really well and serves what you want from an opener at the time, crazy how different the standards are for an opening match nowadays. I am much lower on Shawn as a wrester these days and he's no longer in my top 5 but even back then you can see there was something special about him. Good stuff **3/4"

[6.0] "A good opener between these 2 teams. Good action throughout and a good finish to open this Wrestlemania."

[7.0] "Great Opener, great match, The Rockers (Michaels and Jannetty) giving a great demonstration and The Barbarians did a great job too, It was an entertaining match and the crowd was great with reactions, 7/10 [****1/4]"

[8.0] "Really wish Haku and Barbarian became a legit tag team immediately after this because their chemistry is off the charts. Classic big guys/flippy guys match with Michaels and Jennetty bumping like madmen (that neck bump Jannetty takes is NASTY). Hot tag to Michaels at the end is great, as is the top rope stuff that finishes it, and Heenan barking orders is the glue holding it all together. Great stuff."

[6.0] "They should have put Barbarian and Haku together months earlier in a legit tag team. The Proto Faces Of Fear destroy Michaels with a sky high back drop and Shawn is bumping like his usual madman self. This was a great way to open the show, but the ppv was very stop and go on match quality later on."

[7.0] "A solid match where The Rockers had a good showing and controlled the pace throughout. 6.50/10 [***1/4]."

[7.0] "[3.5*] Absolutely awesome opener, what a gem of a tag team match. Both teams meshed-up so well, the Rockers brought the quickness, agility and flying moves while Haku and The Barbarian brought the raw power and the powerhouse action. It just ruled. Crowd was very hot for the faces and the heels were incredible at their job. Barbarian specifically impressed me a lot, he was so stiff. There was a spot where Jannetty tried a Crossbody from the second rope and he reversed it into a Powerslam. Sick move. Finish ruled and the red-hot crowd popped a lot. Couldn't have been better, honestly."

[7.0] "By that time, probably the best Wrestlemania opener. Pace, emotions, excitement - everything is on the right place."

[6.0] "Great match and well paced opener between two good tag teams. At this point in time there have been SO many Tag Team matches across the Wrestlemania's, and this is easily one of the best of them. The crowd is into it, the finish is good, well done!"

[8.0] "Liked how the Rockers would pick up the pace anytime they gained control and The Hennan Family slowed it down. Both sides had good offense whether it being high paced by the Rockers or power moves by Haku and the The Barbarian. Crowd really got into it the match when the Rockers were getting dominated. Liked the finish to the matchup. Perfect opener for Wrestlemania at the time that shows the crowd high paced offense and gets them involved in the matches"

[6.0] "Fun match woth a hot crowd, the rockers did a very good job here and haku and the barbarin warent to bad either, the beatdown on martty got a bit boring towards the end and the finish wasent as hype as it could have been but still fun"

[7.0] "It took a while but WWF are finally copying WCW with the "hot opener" and obviously the Rockers are the best to do this. They bump like crazy for the bigger heels and this was really enjoyable despite Barbarian being Barbarian, but even he worked hard here and the Rockers made him look good. One of those random tag matches where the two teams hit it off and surprisingly had good chemistry."

[7.0] "This was about as good as a match featuring the Barbarian could be. The Rockers make everything look great and Haku could go when he had to. The energy from the crowd helped everything feel exciting even the dull bits when Barbarian was in the Ring."

[7.0] "***1/2 (7/10) The right opener that WrestleMania VII needed! No body knew it at the time, but we were watching Mr. WrestleMania go up against the two most feared men in the locker room, who looked beautiful as brawling brutes of Tonga. Jannetty was great, too. It's incredible how good the Rockers look today, though a bit of a sad story that Marty never got to be a singles star like HBK. I hope whatever is of Marty's life that he's doing well and happy."

[8.0] "I always loved The Faces of Fear in WCW, but this was long before they became a regular team. The Rockers were always a joy to watch and they picked the best match to open the show. I never expected The Rockers to win this one, either, so this was upset at the time."

[7.0] "This was a darn fine opening contest, with hot action and an excitable crowd making it all the more enjoyable"

[7.0] "This was a very good opening match. The crowd was loud and engaged, the wrestling was fast paced and exciting, and the match itself had a simple, easily understood story. This is a textbook example of how to kick off a PPV the right way, and definitely a stronger note to start on than what was seen on any of the previous WrestleManias at this point."

[5.0] "As an opener works excelent, the rockers are so dynamic that make every match they are so much more interesting and entertaining."

[5.0] "For me, this was nothing more than a very basic tag match with some Rockers athleticism thrown on there. Quite honestly, I even found this match to be a little bit on the sloppy side of things. There were a lot of moments that seemed very mistimed, as if these two teams didn't really have all that good chemistry with each other. It's a decent enough tag because the Rockers are always quite electric, but I wouldn't go much further than decent due to the basic structure and sloppy performance."

[5.0] "It seems I wasn't as into this one as a lot of people. I'm only rating this one this high for the efforts of the Rockers. Putting Barbarian and Haku together was evil for me because I hate watching both (Barbarian less so in the competition.) Decent start to Mania but not necessarily one for me."

[7.0] "Very good opener. I liked it more than The Rockers' match with The Orient Express, because here there weren't too many times when everybody was in the ring with the referee losing control. Haku and Barbarian worked great with much smaller Michaels and Jannetty who look best when they have to use their speed against bigger guys. I also loved Barbarian's incredible Powerslam here, overall a very enjoyable bout."

[7.0] "Fast paced and enjoyable, the first Wrestlemania opener that actually felt like a proper opener. The Rockers were a really fun tag team and the (not yet) Faces of Fear played the powerhouse heel part pretty well"

[7.0] "Crowd are really into the Rockers. This is a classic little lads who are quick vs big lads who are strong match and perfectly fine for it."

[7.0] "Really fun opener. Haku did next to nothing but The Barbarian really kept things moving along nicely. He wasn't exactly dynamic by any means but he pulled off a couple of cool feats of strength. The hot tag to Shawn at the end nearly blew the roof off the building and the double team top rope finish was sweet, Shawn's flying cross body was picture perfect. ***1/2"

[7.0] "Pretty good tag match to kickoff WrestleMania, and the best choice for the opening match since this was exciting nonstop action from start to finish. [***1/4]"

[8.0] "Typical Rockers versus big men stuff, not that I'm complaining! Both Marty and Shawn bump like crazy and the crowd are super hot for them. From his staggering selling to him catching Marty in a nifty powerslam, I thought Barbarian also looked good here. Every show needs a match like this to open things up and get the ball rolling in the right direction. As I go through all the Wrestlemanias in order, I can really appreciate how dynamic and fast-paced this match was compared to what we were usually getting on the undercard for these shows. The only match that has better workrate from the first six 'Manias is Steamboat vs Savage. The Rockers are over like rover and it's crazy that the office would split them up in a few short months."

[6.0] "Solid match, a good power vs speed type battle. The Rockers were such a good team at this point and Haku/Barbarian were always rock solid, so you knew you were going to get something very watchable. A fine choice for an opener."

[6.0] "This was wild. Fast action to you would expect from the Rockers. Haku and Barbarian bought it big. This was good and everyone clicked. ***1/4"

[9.0] "Great little tag match, thought Haku was the standout with some great looking moves, but everyone brought something to the table. Really enjoyed this as a strong opener. Just watched it again and liked it even more, highly underrated match."

[7.0] "The Rockers had many great tag team matches, this is another one of those easy to appreciate for their fast action. Good work from Haku and The Barbarian too. ***1/2"

[6.0] "This match was pretty stock standard tag team fare. While there is nothing wrong with that as it was an entertaining watch it makes it forgettable in the long run."
