Don Callis was great on commentary, funny as hell and I had never really seen Sami before but he can actually work the crowd pretty good. Two things I didnt like, the fork stuff is just gross, especially when Kenny put it in his mouth, that was too much and also putting the tacks in his mouth but other than that, this was pretty enjoyable overall."

Loved the creative weapon usage and the brutal moves and strikes they used. Jay White appearing after the match was a nice surprise at the time. ****1/2"

They used a wide array of moves and weapons to just beat the everloving Christ out of each other. Just an amazing match, at this point a personal favorite of mine from Kenny Omega and potentially Sami Callihan's best match ever. *4.75*"

[10.0] "Exciting and explosive wrestling content produced right here in Nashville. This was high intensity action packed wrestling from bottom to start except for a minute or so where the substance felt a bit plodding. Despite this, there should be nothing taken away from this match at all. A clear MOTN along with top-notch story-telling which is hard to find in deathmatches as majority repeat the same formula and structure. This match had a very strong and developed foundation that was able to withstand this match for such a long time and that too successfully. It provided the match a direction and flow that carried it for the rest of its run-time. It had the vibrant and energetic atmosphere along with the fiery inferno intensity. They were also able to maintain the ring-psychology in very smart and protective manner with humane references and responses to actions. There was evident rage and enmity directed towards the rival opponents which resulted in a bloody and violent war of attrition. There was focused emphasis on story advancements here such as Sami having the advantage as he was comfortable with the match environment and surroundings and would implode on Kenny releasing his aggression there and slicing him up with a pizza cutter. Kenny knew that he had to up his game here too and adapted to the uncomfortable and dangerous environment. Both had to dig in deep and get innovative as their sadism bar also saw a noticeable rise because they were willing to sacrifice their own health and well-being for the Impact world title and had to show no mercy to their adversary in order to finally defeat them. Further, Kenny was aware that he could not go a 100 percent fair and square here and so used salt to blind him as he would accidentally take out the referee. The physicality toll of the bout was able to exhibit the electrifying intensity of the battle. The ending was fantastic with Omega trying to make a statement by disrespecting Sami by forcing thumbtacks in the mouth of Sami and then connecting with a V-trigger but even then Sami would kick out showcasing his grit and lionheart demeanor. Kenny would then use the last resort that is the one winged angle and there was no kicking out of that. I also liked the part where Kenny injects his knee into the pile of tacks to make the knee more painful and effective thus hurting him in the process too but that did not matter. Also, liked ow Sami thrived from the pain and suffering. They used everything barbed wire steel chairs, pizza cutter, forks, bins , wet floor caution sign among many others. The pile-driver through the table was savage. Good brothers being taken care of by the Impact OG's was a nice touch. This was all fires ablaze but in the end Kenny survived everything thrown at him. The blood added a engaging visual while incorporating a layer of flavor into the match. The work-rate was phenomenal and there was loads of drama with the near fall as Kenny barely kicked out. Awesome match overall. ****3/4"

[9.0] "Loved this match. Easily Omega's best match from his disappointing run in Impact. Callihan isn't really a great wrestler but he's a great character and thrives in this environment. This also felt different from any other Omega big match we've seen recently. Excellent start with Callihan immediately hitting a piledriver and gaining control. The pace slows down but there's enough brutal spots to keep things interesting. They built to the big spots really well. Loved the piledriver onto the table and the Tombstone. There was some silly overbooking but at least it didn't ruin the match this time. Omega's V-Triggers looked killer here and so did all his big moves. The V-Trigger with the thumbtacks was really creative as well. Major props to Don Callis for bringing such life every time he shows up or does commentary. ****1/4"

If you're booking a No DQ match with Sami Callihan, you've got to deliver a certain level of sadistic violence, and that is absolutely what they delivered. It helps that Kenny's so game to get into this - he really is still the young wrestling nerd who wants to experience everything with everyone. So many sick spots that had me believing it was the finish, and when the finish did come, I was thoroughly satisfied."

Really bought the intesnity here and really wild stuff. Sami is a wrestler that will rise to the standard of his competitor but not usually make the opponent rise to his level. good lengyth for the match and too many wild spots to call. Don was awesome on commentary and post match was awesome."

[5.0] "This was a plodding brawl of a match without any truly memorable spots. It felt small-time and messy to me, but at the very least it wasn't boring. The problem with a lot of these hardcore matches which veer slightly into deathmatch territory in otherwise regular promotions is that they feel a bit "Baby's first deathmatch", which makes them too extreme for some casual audiences and too tame for deathmatch fans. Thumbtacks have also been over-used recently (largely thanks to AEW) and I can't help but feel completely desensitised to them, especially when used in ridiclous spots like putting them in someone's mouth. Nice post-match surprise but the PPV seemed to end just as someone was running out."

[8.0] "Thiis match ruled. Omega and Callihan had a violent, bloody Match of the Year candidate that put both men's intestinal fortitude on display. Omega looks like a total badass for overcoming what he did but preserved his heel heat because he still had to rely on Callis to help him. Callihan looked every bit Omega's equal and will not have to worry about losing momentum. He is still clearly one of the top stars in Impact and a foundation on whom the company will be built for the foreseeable future. The big news is the arrival of Jay White, the leader of the same Bullet Club from which Kenny Omega and The Good Brothers came. The way he looked at Omega's collection of title belts at the top of the ramp before making his way to the ring and denying the victors a Too Sweet was enough to leave wrestling fans salivating."

If it had a little less spots the match would still be good. And the pizza-cutter spot felt weak. The image of Callihan slicing Omega and looking o nthe cutter like a maniac with no blood on the cutter itself felt cringy to me"

DragonDor wrote on 18.07.2021:
[10.0] "A very strong match from two of the best workers in the world. I find most hardcore matches to be quite boring these days, but what Omega and Callihan brought wasn't the moves that they did, but the WAY that they did them. Both of them have a presence and a charisma in the ring that is missing from 90% of modern wrestlers. We all seen wrestlers use chairs, tables and thumbtacks, and if you simply read a play-by-play of the match then you'd see nothing particularly innovative in that respect. But this was all about passion, intensity and two wrestlers skilled in the art of making you suspend your disbelief."

Callihan was great as he always is in this environment and Omega never fails no matter the situation. I had high expectations going in and this delivered in a fun way. Also, I was expecting even more interference but it was nice to see that toned down here. Great close to a good show."

Although i have a few gripés about the match, it was an overall very good brawl with brutal spots and plenty of blood to sufice even the most draculean of wrestling fans"

[4.0] "To be honest, I had not a bad time watching the whole show. But this main event was really bad to me and I don't understand such a high rating. First of all, the very first move of the match is a big Piledriver from Callihan, and as a first move this can't be built, the fact that such a big move isn't even built already bothered me. Then Callihan had some cool weapons with him and the first minutes were not that bad, we even had an okay sequence outside of the ring, and I was okay with the match until it started to be just an amount of big spots for nothing. Some moments were not really coherent like when Omega tried to do his One Winged Angel even if he almost did nothing interesting in terms of offense before in the match, but that was correct. We are in the main event of Slammiversary, a very big show for Impact Wrestling, and this was just "we are gonna do a random No DQ". From the Piledriver of Callihan through a table to the end of the match, this was absolute nonsense. Just big nearfalls, big spots, they were not badly executed but they means nothing. And in wrestling, and particulary in the main event of such an important show, I need a real content, not just spots impressive to the eyes. Then we had a ref bump that bring us to nothing, except incredibly forced false finishes. They just wanted to do more, more and more, without adding anything relevant, any meaning to the spots. I love Sami Callihan but it's maybe the worst match I've seen from him, and like you surely understood, that's not a problem of athletic performance. Unfortunately, the show that was very correct before finished with that. **"

AndoCommando wrote on 18.07.2021:
[6.0] "Very fun and quite different from every other Impact title defense this year, which is absolutely for the best. Kenny doesn't have to retread old ground and can coast a bit more in a match like this, where the momentary acts of violence make up for a slower pace. Callihan brings the blood out early with some surprise utensils before matching it with his own gnarly bladejob. Not a textbook example of how to use blood, but it was certainly eye-catching. Things do get a tad too repetitive around the middle - where each violent spot has their reversals become gradually more expected. Though to their credit, they manage to break away from that routine by the end. I won't knock on the ref bumps and nearfalls; it's Impact's first live crowd in over a year, they're into the shit regardless of how silly or needless it is. The V-Trigger covered in thumbtacks was genuinely creative and would've been great as a finish, but I guess building up that OWA by the smallest amount more takes priority. Long-term storytelling aye?"
BH62 wrote on 18.07.2021:
[9.0] "Make me laugh how the definition of No DQ match is way large. Omega showed his versatility against this crazy motherfucker of Callihan. That was a blood bath and I enjoyed it so much. However, violence doesn't make the match at all. I found some streches time to time, especially with Don Callis's interventions. He risks becoming a parody of himself. Nevertheless, psychology was there when Omega was ready to do everything in order to kill Callihan who was in his comfort zone. Definitely a great match but it lacked something, I think I wanted an overbooking ending just for the fun."
Golden Lover wrote on 18.07.2021:

Don Callis deserves a mention too for producing an absolute masterclass of shitbag heel commentary. Top ten of the year, probably just outside my top five. Omega is so fucking good."
NikoKillbain wrote on 18.07.2021:
[8.0] "The fork and pizza cutter weren't my favourite choices for Deathmatch spots, but the other spots were great, especially the table piledriver. The skill and trust it takes to pull that off on top of the table is incredible. The tacks were used well. Loved the silliness of the blind ref piledriver. Josh Matthews instructions down the mic were offputting."

[10.0] "Incredible main event match between Omega and Callihan here, I had high expectations for this match and I expected it to be brutal since Kenny always takes big bumps and because it's obviously Callihan's style, but I didn't think they'd go as far as to make it a Death match proper. These guys gave us something amazing to experience live, I thought we all knew Omega was going to win but that didn't stop us from vibing for Callihan, there were so many moments in this match where I doubted about the outcome. And the fact that they managed to make us doubt is already a sign of success, especially considering the great nearfalls we were treated to right after the ref bump. It's very difficult to describe a match like this and to put it into words because there were so many things happening, there were lots of big spots, nasty bumps and there was even some suspense. The crowd was totally into it and it's amazing to see a match like this in the main event of Slammiversary, it's totally worthy of this spot. How can I not mention this post-match angle with Jay White that completely shocked me, it's a sign of great things to come. Awesome stuff to end this great PPV."

I thought it ran a bit too long and some spots I don't care for (Impacts beloved "Face gets blinded and takes out the ref thinking it was the heel! spot in particular I've always hated. Also in general ref bumps in a no DQ match are so pointless) but this had some really good moments too. Like the pizza cutter and fork spots, some good wrestling and great psychology from Sami and Omega to get out of pinfalls. Cut back the time a bit and get rid of some of the dumber spots and this is a MOTY contender probably."

I liked the match, it was a good time, but to me, post-match angle was the best thing about this match."

He took Kenny Omega beyond his limits to become as vicious as himself. Great match and the crowd was all along with Sami Callihan but versus the best bout machine, it's not enough. Very entertaining, bloody, destructive match. The One Winged Angel is the best manoeuver in wrestling today. Thank You Kenny Omega and Thank You Sami Callihan for this great bout."

A brawl not so full of pure wrestling, but of brawling and extreme action. Sami had the crowd behind him, so I feel this booking decision was very good. But Kenny managed to survive, and the OWA remains the best move in modern wrestling history. Cannot wait for the move to become the Omega-driver in the next years on the indie scene, Kenny deserve this homage."
