[7.0] "The main event between Oleg Boltin and Shingo Takagi was entertaining, so I'd give it a passing grade. The match between SANADA and Tsuji was too slow-paced in the early going, and I think the match between Konosuke Takeshi and Yuto-Ice could have been more exciting if Ice had been in better shape. Above all, I felt that using Jake Lee's knee injury from two years ago as a story angle would likely be a point of contention."
[5.0] "Ridiculously late with this one. At my current pace I'll be lucky to reach the final by December, and avoiding spoilers isn't getting any easier. Events like this don't help either. I literally just watched it and already struggle to remember much of anything. I mean, just look at that card. Oleg vs. Shingo isn't exactly an exciting main event on paper and still ended up being the match of the night. Other than that, Jake Lee continues to entertain me, while SANADA might actually be my biggest positive surprise of the tournament so far."
[7.0] "A solid night of actions aided by the final 3 matches all being really good after the opening two were both pretty meh and crap. There is only so much a show can do when there is a Jake lee match and a GoK match on it i am dreading the show were the face each other might be worst match of the year. Goto and Oiwa tried to get good matches out of them but it just didn't happen. NIce to see Sanada put in a good performance for once. But yeah a solid night overall."
[5.0] "Dick Togo & Ren Narita vs Taisei Nakahara & Toru Yano: I was not keen on this one, even being an opening preview tag it was underwhelming to be honest [*1/2]. Daiki Nagai & Drilla Moloney vs Masatora Yasuda & Yuya Uemura: A preview of Moloney versus Uemura, the tag match here was fine and did what it needed to [**]. HENARE & Jakob Austin Young vs Gedo & OSKAR: A solid enough preview of HENARE versus OSKAR, did not outstay it's welcome and had adequate enough action [**]. Hartley Jackson & Zack Sabre Jr vs Callum Newman & Zane Jay: Newman and ZSJ had a few interesting preview exchanges, Hartley picked up the win for his team which was nice [**]. Jake Lee vs Hirooki Goto: The feigning injury spot took too long and was not good way to end the end the match, Lee pinning Goto was not good as was the match [*1/4]. Ryohei Oiwa vs Great O-Khan: Oiwa had a good showing as a face, GOK was average as usual, the match was a fine standard and Oiwa winning was the right decision [**3/4]. Konosuke Takeshita vs Yuto-Ice: These two fought until one couldn't get back up with Takeshita getting the kind of obvious win here [**3/4]. SANADA vs Yota Tsuji: This match was actually alright, SANADA actually put in a decent showing and getting the win which was interesting [***]. Boltin Oleg vs Shingo Takagi: A great main event match, the dynamic was interesting between these two powerhouses , Oleg getting the win was good to see if interesting, Takagi had a great showing [****1/4]"
[6.0] "A very middling card until the final two matches which are both admittedly very good to great. The main event is really good, not perfect but the second best match of the G1 thus far. SANADA & Tsuji is clearly the match of the tournament so far, paced intriguingly with generally great work from both men but a *really* great outing from Sanada who well and truly turned back the clock. ***1/4."
[8.0] "G1 shows for the Block A is always my favorite, this block is just so great. Today we had Konosuke Takeshita vs Yuto-Ice, SANADA vs Yota Tsuji and Boltin Oleg vs Shingo Takagi. These three matches are very good."
[5.0] "4 days in and it looks like this G1 is mostly likely to hang around this mediocre level for the remainder of the tournament. Goto vs Jake was a bit poor. Jake's beatdown work was decent, and some of his antics are still kind of entertaining, but overall he was far too lacking in intensity. Goto honestly wasn't much better, since some of his offence landed rather flatly or even looked a bit sloppy. Jake didn't take the best bumps for any of it either, to be fair. Jake's whole leg injury fake-out was very predictable and took way too long, though at least the sudden finish was surprising, which I'll always take. **1/4. O-Khan vs Oiwa was bad, just because O-Khan controlled the vast majority of it and he plain sucks. He still has zero energy with all his hokey-looking gimmick attacks, and he just mindlessly runs through the exact same spots in every match this tournament. The ref allowing all of his outright cheating was once again really dumb. Oiwa sold his injured ribs decently, though his offence needed a lot more energy to make his comebacks truly exciting, and he otherwise suffered through O-Khan's control for way too long. It's not like O-Khan ever gave him any meaningful trades or bumps in response either. At least there was a solid bit of drama in the final few minutes. **. Takeshita vs Yuto was okay but woefully underwhelming. It was heavily based around strikes, but neither guy was able to truly impress in that realm. Takeshita had the athleticism and occasionally the power moves, but his strikes were always focussed on placement/techniqye at the expense of impact, and his thigh slaps were aggravating as always. Yuto, meanwhile, had nowhere near enough urgency or intensity with his own strikes, since his big wind-ups only ever resulted in pretty light impact. Their interactions were all very predictable 50/50 trades, with lame fighting spirit moments thrown in. Their chemistry was decent but that was about it. **3/4. Sanada vs Tsuji was quite good and the clear MOTN. It was admittedly sloppy at points, but the key moments were all well-executed, and I liked the overall story of Sanada being rejuvenated and once again having Tsuji's number. Sanada continues to mostly look quite good after his short break, with his old athleticism and agility finally back and his H.o.T antics very limited. Tsuji was a bit plain with how he moved from signature move to signature move, and at times he lacked intensity, but he was good as the obstacle for Sanada to overcome. Even though their chemistry was awkward at points in the 2nd half, it still felt big each time Sanada teased getting the win with his various big moves, and and I liked the escalation in the finishing stretch with just a dash of cheating to give Sanada the necessary edge, smartly protecting Tsuji in defeat. ***1/4. Shingo vs Boltin was okay, with Shingo doing his best to bring intensity and energy despite being far past his prime. Boltin has size and strength, but I still find his offence too lumbering and predictable to make the best use of those attributes. I figured out that I'd also far prefer him being presented as an arrogant heel monster instead of being forced into this sympathetic babyface role with ill-fitting extended selling and generic comebacks every match. Their exchanges were mostly fine but quite predictable. At least Shingo impressed when it came to their more evenly matched interactions, while Boltin had his moments but was mostly just mediocre. The finish felt quite rushed, and thus Boltin's win felt undeserved. **3/4"
[5.0] "I swore off of watching the undercard tags and still ended up watching them. Not worth it. Skip them. Here's the big problem with the G1 matches: You get five of them and one of them is a Jake Lee match, another is an O-Khan match, and another is a Sanada match. Sanada was better on this show (and in this G1 so far) than he has been recently, but I think a big part of why he's in the situation he's in is because he's never had the charisma or fire to grab people emotionally, so he's stuck having to do that through wrestling alone, now with a broken body. Considering that, the match was quite well-worked around his limitations but I thought the first half was a little boring. I'm still not finding anything really compelling about this year's G1 and I'm already finding these shows a bit exhausting to get through. Day 5 looks more interesting. Let's hope things pick up."
[6.0] "Lee/Shingo, buns. Bad. Stunk of poo. I wish Ice/Takeshita got more time then they did, and a more fleshed match. Main event pretty much did nothing for me. MOTN was certainly SANADA/Yota, glad to see the SANADA I was a fan of in 2023."
[7.0] "Another pretty strong night of the G1. Lee/Goto sucked but i enjoyed the top 4 matches here. Wasn't massive on Yuto/Takeshita but it was still very solid and i really liked O Khan/Oiwa, Boltin/Shingo and surprisingly Tsuji/Sanada a lot. Seems like a couple of the old gen guys here are starting to put some effort in as both GOK and Sanada put in two pretty great performances on this show. I just hope it remains that way going forward. MOTN - Oleg Boltin vs. Shingo Takagi"
[9.0] "For me it was the best G1's day since the beginning a excellent show, the last 3 matches was at least great, this day is waaaaay better than the other 3, honestly this A Block is absolutely fantastic."
