On the storyside there was little to no surprises which is a shame, becaus eoften times NYD is used to ignite new rivalries (there was only the one between Takeshita vs. KUSHIDA). Gabe Kidd of course got a nice reception from the crowd and is now tied to hunt Tsuji's newls attained title. I don't know, if that's the right move now, because one of them has to loose essentially. |

The only surprise match on the card was the Josh Barnett and Oleg Boltin exhibition match and it didn't really cut it since it wasn't even a real match. The main event was very good at least, but the rest of the card left a lot to be desired. [MOTN: Hirooki Goto, Rocky Romero, YOH & YOSHI-HASHI vs. Kosei Fujita, Robbie Eagles, Ryohei Oiwa & Zack Sabre Jr.] |

| 20 | 13.01.2025 | Oswuold | 6.0 | Of course this show was never going to be great but lionat that; the building for the most of the more important matches of the New Beginning tour has officially started and the main-event was no short of good. Overall it could have been way worse than this. *** |

Most of the stuff they teased got little to no reaction, literally. They keep trying to make Shota Umino a sympathetic babyface, why ? Didn't you get that the guy just CAN'T work as a babyface right now ? He got a forced, extremely long Wrestle Kingdom main event, just the day after he got booed when he beat Claudio Castagnoli. No one cares about him, he is not taken seriously, no one besides a few kids want to cheer for him. Why do they keep going against the fans' response ? It is so stupid ! Rest of the show is not very interesting either. Besides Yota Tsuji vs Gabe Kidd and Hirooki Goto going for the IWGP World Championship, nothing seemed to really get the crowd. That's a very rough beginning of the year, nothing to get you thinking that New Japan will go forward and get better this year. |

| 32 | 09.01.2025 | cal9099 | 5.0 | Probably the least interesting New Year Dash I've seen. Yes it built a few feuds but how many of those feel like they have any long-lasting impact to them outside of Kidd/Tsuji? The matches two were completely 'Road To' standard outside of the main event. Poor start to the year. 5/10 |

I really liked Despy & Kushida vs Ishimori & KENTA. Some good angles out of that. Big loss too NJPW putting Chris Charlton on hiatus. I watched the Japanese commentary. |
| 40 | 08.01.2025 | Rossg17 | 7.0 | Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Satoshi Kojima & Yuji Nagata vs Daiki Nagai, Katsuya Murashima & Shoma Kato: A fine veterans vs young lions pre-show match, the young lions had a decently solid showing against the veterans [**1/4]. Boltin Oleg vs Josh Barnett: An exhibition match that had some good mat wrestling and amateur wrestling holds [**]. Francesco Akira, Great O-Khan, Jakob Austin Young, Jeff Cobb & TJP vs El Phantasmo, Jado, Master Wato, Shota Umino & Tomoaki Honma: A fine multi man match, GOK getting the win here was okay but did feel like a house show standard match [**]. Ren Narita, SHO, Yoshinobu Kanemaru & Yujiro Takahashi vs Hiroshi Tanahashi, Tiger Mask, Togi Makabe & Toru Yano: Did not like this match as usual HoT tactics were used which got boring and the action was not that interesting [*]. Clark Connors & SANADA vs Taichi & TAKA Michinoku: This was okay, it highlighted the feud of Taichi/SANADA in which I hope they get a singles match, Connors and Michinoku were fine [**1/4]. El Desperado & KUSHIDA vs KENTA & Taiji Ishimori: KUSHIDA submitting KENTA for the win was actually surprising to watch, the match was okay, Ishimori and Despy have good chemistry in the ring, KUSHIDA and KENTA were okay in the ring [**1/2]. BUSHI, Shingo Takagi, Titan & Yota Tsuji vs David Finlay, Drilla Moloney, Gabe Kidd & Gedo: Some interesting exchanges from Kidd and Tsuji as well as Shingo and Moloney, Gedo actually had a solid showing [***]. Hiromu Takahashi & Tetsuya Naito vs Alex Zayne & Ryusuke Taguchi: An okay match, another Naito match in 2025 that he looked like he is slowing down and looked not like he did in previous years, Zayne and Taguchi are an interesting tag team and they continue to entertain the crowds of wherever they team up in NJPW [**1/2]. Hirooki Goto, Rocky Romero, YOH & YOSHI-HASHI vs Kosei Fujita, Robbie Eagles, Ryohei Oiwa & Zack Sabre Jr: A great eight man tag team match which closed out a great weekend in NJPW, Romero & YOH vs Fujita & Eagles and Goto vs ZSJ made for interesting for already confirmed matches in Osaka on Feb 11, 2025, Oiwa and YH had an interesting preview and hoping we get a singles match down the road, YOH pinning Eagles was interesting [****1/4] |

| 44 | 07.01.2025 | casss22 | 5.0 | An underwhelming New Year Dash at a time when it feels like New Japan should've really set up so much more. Boltin vs Barnett was fine for what it was but the 5-minute exhibitions just aren't enough time. I'm looking forward to these two potentially having another (actual) match and for Boltin to get a nice push. Barnett seconding Boltin more often or having him appear for Bloodsport would be cool. United Empire stills lacks direction and a leader. Was hoping we'd see this resolved and I like the idea of GOK vs Umino but hoping they don't just give GOK another loss. The guy gained so much momentum and fan support on 2024-something Umino lacked--and this could easily set up a longterm feud between the two. Umino showed barely any character progression after his WK19 match. Now was the time to do it and NJPW just opted not to which seems to be the theme of the night. EVIL not appearing makes sense but I'm sure he'll show to attack someone at The New Beginning but hopefully we can be done with these multi-man House of Torture vs Hontai feuds. 4/6 of the last NEVER 6-man title matches have involved some form of House of Torture vs the current champions. Those titles lost so much value after a huge reign by Okada/Tanahashi/Ishii (I miss the days when YOSHI-HASHI made those titles mean something). Taichi vs SANADA is so cold and it still isn't clear why they did what they did with these two. SANADA had a huge fall from grace with no story behind it. I was very open to him turning but this has just been so odd. Hoping they can heat this rivalry up because both deserve better. KENTA is seemingly out the door and tapping out to KUSHIDA is fine--and he seems to be back regularly after leaving TNA--and wish NJPW had done more with KENTA but I am all for his likely NOAH return. El Desperado vs Ishimori will deliver like they always do but I'm shocked it's happening in the US and not in Osaka. Kidd challenging for another title and losing while being a champion himself after a star-making performance with Omega is certainly a choice but this match has so much potential that it could add a lot of layers to future stories with Tsuji, Finlay, Kidd, and BC in general. Drilla moving up to heavyweight is awesome and him vs Shingo should be great. Hoping Zayne got signed and will be used more often but LIJ vs The Young Bucks should be solid and I'm hoping Naito can figure out a style that compliments the state of his body instead of underperforming. The main event was good but left me scratching my head. CHAOS is still a faction but Goto didn't even get his moment to add some momentum ahead of his match. Still a chance to do it but this Cinderella story needs more to it right now because it's of GOTOVER yet. The faction has no clear direction. Either make Goto the leader or create a new faction from this (really wish Despy was hyping up STRONG STYLE because that would've been perfect for Goto). Also it's strange that Roppongi ReVice are challenging for both the STRONG Openweight and IWGP Jr Tag titles within a month. YOSHI-HASHI vs Oiwa should be a banger though! |
| 45 | 07.01.2025 | VexedGod | | Overall, not a very exciting show but a lot of exciting angles coming from the show, so a decent success. I would have liekd to see the CMLL wrestlers do something htere if it was possbile considering they only did a battle royale pretty much. |

No interesting developments, no big surprises, no big matches, nothing really worth seeing. I liked the exhibition between Barnett and Boltin but with a five-minute time limit, it's not worth going out of your way to see. |

| 64 | 07.01.2025 | Killerman | 6.0 | I thought this was a nice and chill show after the chaos that was the double header in the Tokyo Dome the nights before. As usual with New Years Dash it does a great job setting up what's coming down the line for NJPW in the future. Yes this is a weaker addition but think itnwas definitely more then acceptable. Some big matches they teased to be set up in the future that I'm excited for are Desperado/Ishimori and Gabe/Tsuji. Also a really good 8 man tag match thats worth a watch closes the show aswell. Anyways this is just a solid show with lots of things getting set up for future NJPW shows and I'm excited to see where they go from here. |
| 65 | 07.01.2025 | Chefi | 6.0 | Match of the night was definitely the main event. Awesome stuff there. Barnett/Oleg, Despe/Kushida vs Ishimori/Kenta, LIJ vs War Dogs and LIJ vs Zayne/Taguchi were decent-good. Every tint else was mediocre-less then decent. |
| 66 | 07.01.2025 | Exulansis | 7.0 | Oleg we getting you that championship in 2025 big bro. These tag matches were really fun to watch with the main event notably being great. The War Dogs vs 4 Guys tag team match was also good. Lots of stories/feuds were set up leading into Battle in the Valley. I'm excited for NJPW in 2025~! |
| 67 | 07.01.2025 | MarkCarnochan97 | 4.0 | The New Year Dash shows are rarely much to write home about, bar the odd one here and there with major storyline twists (i.e. when AJ Styles was kicked out of Bullet Club) but last year's show was really strong. No massive storylines or anything (bar the UE vs BC storyline starting in a massive brawl) but just a really solid show. Sadly, this year was much more of a downbeat show. Nothing major happening (though I liked the progressions with Shota, the brawl between Oiwa/Yoshi-Hashi and the preview of Goto/ZSJ) and no in ring action that stood out. Sure, it went by quickly enough but there isn't much here that I would recommend to anyone. |
