[4.0] "The worst WWE PLE of the last 2 years. This was honestly painful to watch at points. It starts off fine. Ricochet and Logan have a decent, if not very memorable match. Brock and Cody have another match in their underwhelming trilogy. The battle royale is a battle royale with the sole purpose of giving LA Knight something to do. Ronda Vs Shayna is both of their worst performances in WWE and just a snoozefest which gets harder to watch by the minute. Gunther VS Drew is... Fine. Very Underwhelming.Definitely on the weaker side of Gunther's phenomenal IC title reign. Balor and Rollins is the only match on the card that I could call good. It wasn't anything special, just two good workers having a good World title match. The women's title 3 way is very sloppy. It looks good on paper but the timing of most of the moves were off. The Iyo Sky Cash-in from after the match is one of the only memorable things on the show. The Main Event is honestly tough to watch. It's 36 minutes of the worst aspects of Roman Reigns's title reign, and overall a horribly booked and paced match, with the turn on the end leading to a horrible Wrestlemania match makes it all the worst. Overall, one of the worst Summerslams of all time and definitely the low point of HHH's WWE"

With the lowlights being the Mma rules match, no returns or debuts and the dreadful main event that sucked almost any excitement I got from the show. More highlights than lowlights but ultimately the biggest disappointment was the main event."

The best match on the show I think was Gunther and Drew McIntyre, they showed what they are capable of as always. The Main Event was a bit long and boring, but it served its purpose, it really got me emotional, Jimmy Uso I hate you."

[8.0] "I was very hyped for SummerSlam and for the most part it didn't disappoint. I enjoyed the Battle Royal helping with LA Knight's momentum and overall roster in it. Would've enjoyed a US title of a tag title match as a replacement but it works. Logan and Ricochet put out an opening banger and would definitely like to see this rivalry renewed. Cody & Brock III had an amazing ending with the Cowboy passing the torch and walking into the Motor City sunset. Drew and Gunther put out a great fight between two great heavyweights. Seth and Finn WHC II was better than the first but I still say Finn should've won it right then and there. Women's triple threat was great with Bianca's false hope victory and Iyo cashing in. I know a lot of people didn't enjoy Ronda vs. Shayna but I personally did. MMA rules was a good way to send Ronda (who I personally don't like not just as a character but as a human) out. The dud for me was the Tribal Combat match. I'm not saying the match was bad by any means because it was great. My main problem with it was the whole thing of "no interference allowed" and yet Solo and Jimmy helped Roman with no repercussions. Overall I give it an 8 because for the most part it was great. Just wish an extra title match or actually following the stipulation of your MAIN EVENT of the 2nd biggest show of your promotion"

Like I was genuinly tweaking at the opening hype package, so it was a bit of a dissapointment. But overall still good. Main event soured the show a lot and the Logan match way under achieved."

[6.0] "Let's be fair! The show started very strongly until the first dip in the MMA fight which was slightly expected to be what it is. Then, GUNTHER took responsibility once again and straightened things up, and the morale was going great until the main event's climax. To this day, I don't get the actual value of Jimmy Uso's betrayal other than making a mockery of himself. That's how his character looks right now unlike his brother who has evolved into a different breed. Rest aside, this was an event that came so close to becoming another 'thumbs up' but the bad apples spoilt the efforts! Hurts to say, but it's the worst bunch of the Hunter regime. 6.5 out of 10 points!"

[6.0] "I'm pretty disappointed I have to put SummerSlam this low. I really like Seth vs Balor and it was my match of the night. Gunther vs Drew was good too, I just expected more from it. Paul vs Ricochet was also a fun opener that got the crowd excited with some high-octane action. The Women's Triple Threat was solid and elevated by the cash-in, while Cody vs Lesnar was alright but felt like a drag towards the end. The battle royal was... you know a battle royal. It was fine but not much else. Unfortunately, the show is dragged down by two matches. The MMA Rules match was absolutely painful to watch and I was relieved when the 7 minutes were over. And then, the main event under-delivered big time. It was really slow and boring for large portions of the match. I get trying to tell a story, but its a problem they had in 2020 and it returned here in 2023. And then the Jimmy turn, even now as I let it play out, I found stupid. So in the end, these two matches heavily drag down the rating of the show and its ranking amongst the other PLEs of the year which were of higher quality. Its a disappointing 6/10."

Gunther/McIntyre, Asuka/Belair/Flair, Rhodes/Lesnar, and Rollins/Balor were all excellent matches that felt big-time and worthy of being on a Big 4 PLE. Unfortunately, a damp show-closing angle left a sour taste in my mouth that had to bring the score down by a point."

Gunther V Mcintyre wasn't bad but i did have higher expectations for the match from what we've seen with Gunther and sheamus and the mania triple threat Roman V Jey was very disappointed with a lackluster finish and a stupid heel turn and there was nothing really special about the rest of the card imo"
Frank Shooter wrote on 13.10.2023:
[6.0] "For a while, the quality of the PPV have been progressively been worse, and this is no exception. Worst PPV of the Triple H era, and I'm strongly thinking Vince McMahon was behind the booking of this because it had his same bad booking decisions in every single match. Logan Paul vs Ricochet: too much control of the match by the less experienced Paul and a bad finish just to make him a bigger heel, along with too much forced epic. Cody vs Brock: it was Gargano vs Cole on roids. Cody Rhodes being invincible and being presented as the never give up John Cena type of character. Battle Royal: the right man won, but too many bad eliminations of great wrestlers. Gunther vs Drew: biggest disappointment of the night. The two seemed so off and they wrestled a match more proper of a weekly show. It had some physicality, but they never pushed forward. Shayna vs Ronda: you want to do an MMA fight, do an MMA fight or go watch some promotion, but this was horribly produced. If you wanted to make an UWFi Rules match, WWE is not the right place to do that, and the whole rivalry was plain bad and forced. World Title Match: better than the MITB match, it was good without having to do crazy things, but is not what both men are capable of doing. Triple Threat: best match of the night, but like in the IC Title match, something seemed off. Technically it was a really good match, but they couldn't manage to bring any interest to the match and was more like a sucession of moves. Cash In by Io was obvious the moment Bianca won being "injured". And the Main Event, same old shit. The same Roman Reigns match over and over again, extending this story needlessly. Wrestling was good, could be better, but good. But matches were really bad booked."

[4.0] "Probably the most disappointing show of the year. The card looked pretty damn solid on paper, but Cody and Brock missed along with the main event, and the match you knew was going to be bad (Ronda v Shayna) was somehow even worse. Even Gunther v. McIntyre and Paul v. Ricochet came up a bit short imo. Iyo cashing in was the highlight of the night for sure, and saves this show from being a disaster in my mind."
TheLegendaryEric wrote on 06.10.2023:
[6.0] "Unfortunately, despite the strong start this was the weakest PPV that WWE has produced this year. While the show started off strong, with Logan vs Richochet, Cody getting the rub from Brock, and LA Knight finally getting a big pop for a big win, it got a little weak in the middle with the confusing MMA rules match, and while Drew vs Gunther was a really good match, it wasn't the 5 star classic many were hoping for. The WHC match was a good match in helping to establish the title as a belt worthy of world championship status. Iyo Sky winning the WWE women's title was also a satisfying moment. However, the main event of the night, was really poor IMO, and it's not because Roman won, it's because of how they've overused the formula that they've being going with for so long now, of Roman not being able to win anything by himself anymore. I don't think it helps that you never that Roman wasn't going to wrestler for a long time after this (Which to this date he still hasn't)."

[6.0] "A pretty good show with a not so good main event. It started out well with Logan and Ricochet having a nice, athletic bout and it transitioned to the very good blow off match with Cody and Brock. The Battle Royal was all about the winner and Gunther vs Drew was okay, although not what you would expect from these guys, while Rollins vs Balor was the first match for the new world title that actually felt like a world title match. But the main event was just bad. Ridiculous stipulation that had no rules explained and a stale at this point finish with a stupid twist. Some good stuff here and there, but it's a shame that the last match underdelivered."
TheAerialDispassion wrote on 31.08.2023:
[7.0] "A show that had a great start, but a few lows sprinkled in. A useless Women's title reign was born (a massive pet peeve of mine, I hate useless title reigns), and the MMA Rules match sucked the life out of the crowd for a match or two. A deflating main event was to boot. But everything else, however, was still great. The results were almost always booked well, and the in-ring action was usually quite good, at some points, great. The event is slightly tainted by its low points, but its highs make it a redeemable show worth one's time."

I do think this was a tad underwhelming given that the card looked like it could be an all-timer, but there were enough positives for me to enjoy. Outside of Shayna/Ronda, there wasn't much to dislike outside of Drew/Gunther not getting more time and the Tribal Combat rules being nothing more than a standard no-disqualification match (though I still enjoyed it). With better in-ring action this would have been a tough show to beat."
DanTalksRasslin wrote on 23.08.2023:
[5.0] "The biggest talking point here is the main event. Up to this point, the Bloodine story has been generally compelling, but the Reigns vs Jey match here may have been its "jumping the shark" moment - a plodding walk-and-brawl with a fairly predictable conclusion that it took far too long to get to (there was no reason for this to go 40 minutes; if it were half that length it likely *still* would have seemed too long). Many of the other matches went a ways to making up for it, though they often had issues of their own - Rollins vs. Balor was a great match which I would argue featured the wrong winner; Gunther vs. McIntyre was quite good, but likely would've seemed even better had the WrestleMania three-way with these two and Sheamus not been such a blowaway hit; the Women's Title three-way was fine, and the IYO cash-in worked, but I still think the MITB gimmick is beyond played out; Cody vs Brock was also fine, even if the feud has come off largely as something for Cody to do while being kept away from the titles; and Ricochet vs Paul was, to give credit where it's due, good, even if my personal interest in seeing Paul is exactly zero. The battle royal was pretty fun - I'm always a sucker for a good battle royal - and Knight getting the win was the right call, giving at least some confidence that they may just capitalize on Knight's popularity after all. The weakest link on the entire show had to be Rousey vs. Baszler; I've always suspected that the crossover audience between wrestling and MMA isn't nearly as big as it's made out to be, and the crowd's reaction of disappointment in seeing this instead of a wrestling match seems to confirm it. Overall, a show with lots of strong performances tempered by major booking issues, and a middling grade seems appropriate."
LutherKing wrote on 19.08.2023:
[7.0] "The WWE superstars have been delivering high-quality weekly shows and PLE. However, on this PLE, they seemed quite exhausted. There were some good matches, but nothing exceptional, and quite a few botches. They deserve a break, but I understand that's impossible."
Pozerr wrote on 17.08.2023:
[4.0] "The show started off solid enough with Ricochet/Logan, Lesnar/Cody & LA Knight winning the Battle Royal all average to slightly below average. After that, the show went down drastically in quality. Ronda/Shayna I didn't see 100% of but considering everyone else's reaction I'd say that's for the best. It is impossible for WALTER to have a bad match, that being said, the Drew match was just fine, which sounds good, but isn't what you expect from them as they can have a much better match. Rollins/Balor was solid, not many complaints there. The triple threat sucked, Charlotte's chops looked comically bad especially after WALTER/McIntyre. The injury spot was painfully obvious that it was a work, no fault to Bianca who sold her ass off. The end spot was fine, but could've been handled much better, I personally would've had Asuka just win but that's just me. The Iyo cash-in was sweet and Damage Control standing strong one year after their debut was nice even if they've been booked horribly. Then the main event. Even before the finish, this match did not live up to what it could've. This is a match that has been built for three years but was pretty average. I think this comes down to the fact that Jey had no chance and thus made me invest less, another reason why Cody should've won at Mania but I digress. When Solo interfered, I was already annoyed because Tribal Combat was advertised as no interference, but with Solo interfering, it just made this match a standard No Holds Barred, which isn't what you want from a match three years in the making. And then Jimmy turned and (according to Smackdown advertisements) rejoined the Bloodline. This not only makes zero logical sense but it is ANOTHER BLOODLINE INTERFERENCE FINISH. The un-creativity for the supposed 'Best Story in Wrestling History' is astounding. Back to Jimmy, Jimmy was the one who turned on Roman first and brought Jey out of the Bloodline. So why did he just come back? If WWE really wanted to tell a jealousy story, then build that up, but there hasn't been any build to this turn at all. It just seems like a shock for the sake of it. And is this building to Jimmy vs Jey? I have zero interest in that. TLDR: Show started solid, then fell off big time and ended very uncreatively. 2/5 show, but out of 10 it's probably a 4/10. One of if not the weakest since Triple H has taken over."

[4.0] "I'm not gonna lie this show was kinda mid. The opener was solid high flying action fun, I LOVED the opener, it really got me hyped for what's to come. Lesnar/Rhodes was a decent match but the whole count out storyline was a bit cheap but hey, Lesnar is a heel and just playing his role, and I respect the two for doing something different, always get points for the effort. The battle roayle was fine, a battle royal is a battle royal, not too much to say here except the right man won. MMA Rules match was a bad one, personally not a fan of worked shoot UFC type matches in a Wrestling show, I can't say anything about this, would give a [1] rating if I can give ratings. Hoping we dont see anything like this again. The IC title match brought me back in, I especially loved the part where Gunther and McIntyre was having a chop off then boom claymore kick. I'm ok with this match being kind of short because Gunther is the type of wrestler that evolves as the match goes on, learns from his mistakes and thinks two steps ahead, of course it would take less than 20 minutes for someone like him to defeat McIntyre. Would Gunther really be the beast he is if every singles match takes him 20+ minutes to defeat his opponents? Not really. The WWE World Heavyweight championship match was pretty good, I honestly feel like it took a while for this match to pick up steam, it only really got interesting in the final 5 minutes with the false finishes, drama from Damien Priest, is he gonna cash in or not? But was quite surprised he cost Finn the match, not only that, but DIDN'T cash in when that was maybe the perfect time with the entire stable by his side. I love the mind games with the attire Seth wore during the entrance. The triple threat match went way too long, we just had 2 very good bangers and we know the upcoming match will be another one (or so we thought...) I wish this one was maybe 8 minutes max. The women did have good ideas going into this with their spots and everything but they botched so much, Charlotte kept doing gymnastics and having NO IMPACT with her moves, she hits like a feather and actively made wrestling look fake in this match. I spent most of the time waiting for this long match to end, got interesting with the fake injury which looked real at the time. Bianca won again but who really cares? Io cashed in but who cares? Not me, the women's division is going back into it's dark ages. Tribal Combat match! Oh my, this one is very controversial and understandably so. We we're all hyped for this match, but the pace was way too slow for a main event with this much going in the storyline, I was falling asleep despite the PLE being 11am for me at this point; they only did 1 move every 2 minutes, nothing was happening at all. Then the plot twist came in which made no sense and made Jimmy look stupid if anything. I loved the Bloodline storyline over the last 3 years. But I'm done with it now, I'm starting to actively turn against Reigns and hope someone dethrones him, time to pack up this storyline, it's starting to drag on. (Props to Reigns for staying captivating for 3 years, that's impossible in modern wrestling). This is my first review, I can't give ratings yet, I would give this PLE a 5 out of 10. Was mid, Only 3 Good matches (Paul/Ricochet, Gunther/McIntyre, Rollins/Balor) the rest we're either just fine or pure trash."

Started with a good opening match and the rest of the card was also very solid, there were a few below average matches but overall the action was solid throughout the night. Unfortunately, the main event was disappointing, not only did we not get the ending we deserved, the overall match was also not very good and the ending was a complete waste of all I followed in the Bloodline storyline, a waste of time. Even if Jey beats Reigns in the future, however unlikely it is now, it will never again be a good enough moment as it would have been at this time. SummerSlam 2023 was easily the weakest show WWE produced for the year."

Loved the Lesnar and Cody match, was glad to see Lesnar have such character in the match. The battle royale was great, favorite spot was the team up to remove Omos. Loved Sky cashing in her MITB after the triple threat. Just really sucks that the main event became so boring after an awesome hype package and the /twist/ with Jimmy was so dumb and disappointing. To me, it makes no sense in the story line either. I can only guess Vince forgot to take his namenda and borked that one."

It's a shame, especially when you have stars like Rhea Ripley and Becky Lynch absent. Gunther and Mcintyre's match put the show back on, but it could have been better. Rollins-Balor was the best match of the night. The women's triple threat was okay, but could have been better with better match construction and the cash-in was too expected and obvious. The main event was pretty good, but was penalized by its final moment in my opinion. It left a bitter taste in your mouth at the end without helping the Bloodline storyline. In conclusion, the show could have been much better. If it was a small monthly PLE, I'd have said it was okay. But this is SummerSlam. And we're expecting a much higher standard. I'm a bit disappointed, even if I note a few positive points."

I feel like this could end up going wrong, but we have all seen Triple H booking, so i can give him a little pass here but they have to pull something brilliant. But for the flaws i give it there is alot of Positives 1. LA Knight is The Real Deal, there were YEAH chants before i even got to my seat. 2. The crowd was pretty Hot, at least while i was there, cannot say about the Peacock Feed. So If i was watching at home and gave it a full review, i would give it a 7"

Not the worst show I've ever seen by any stretch, but Paul/Ricochet, Gunther/McIntyre, and Rollins/Balor are about all I feel outright positive on, they were all pretty solid. Much as I love Brock, Lesnar/Rhodes kinda sucked. The SLIM JIM © battle royal was fine and had the right winner. Rousey/Baszler was bad but short and again a good result. The next three title matches were a good stretch of the show, though the women's 3-way was lacking something and was overall a bit dull. Io cashing in was nice for her. The main event was... not pretty. 36 minute snoozefest with a dumb finish and a tired storyline. This was the meh-est party of the summer."

"WWE's first bad PPV since Triple H took over, and it's a damn shame to say it was bad considering how good the card was up until we hit the three hour mark, with the exception of the MMA Rules match. Paul vs Ricochet was what an opener should be, Cody gave Brock his best match in a while despite some weird booking (the exposed turnbuckle and the steel steps spot...), LA Knight actually won, the MMA rules match is a dumb idea (I wonder who's idea it was...) and was executed awkwardly but hey Shayna won at least, Gunther vs Drew was about was we expected and Rollins vs Balor was the best match on the show. However, this year's SummerSlam felt definitely way too long when they rang the bell for the Women's Three Way match. The match itself wasn't all that great despite the girls being given some decent amount of time, and the crowd woke up at the end of the match and for IYO's cash in, which I felt should have happened later but why not. Although, the main event put the final nail in the coffin, and maybe even a few more nails before that. The Roman Reigns main event match formula had worked wonders for the past twelve months, against Drew, Sami or Cody, and even with The Usos back in July; the only difference with this match was that unlike the other ones I cited, nobody thought Jey would win the title, and they didn't rang the bell 3 and three quarters hours into the show! Briefly, the match was fifteen or so minutes too long, and was really not the all-out brawl we had been promised, Jey should have jumped his cousin and unleashed hell on him right away. Instead they did a staring contest. I'm confident this WWE will learn from their mistakes and get back on track quick. One last nitpicking: only two matches ended with a decisive finish..."

Good points: the first two matches were good, the Intercontinental Title Match and the WWE World Heavyweight Title were the Match Of The Night contenders, and IYO winning the Championship was fantastic and well deserved. The bad points: the Battle Royal was skippable, the fake MMA Match was a terrible idea, the Women's Title Match was disappointing (considering the talent of the women involved), and the Main Event was probably the worst Main Event in a WWE PPV this year."

But the rest of the card was really fun and were all at least 7/10s with nothing going higher than 8/10 but like that's a really good look even considering this is the 3rd biggest show of the year for the fed. My match of the night was the women's triple threat which I feel like is being slept on, and the money in the bank cash in was pretty dope. I also really enjoyed the battle royal (I just really enjoy a good battle royal so that's probably why I enjoyed it more than most. I gave the main event a 7/10 mostly for the match quality which was pretty decent, I was also never on the Jey Uso should beat Roman train, so that probably makes it easier for me to rate it higher. I think Roman holding the title until Wrestlemania 40 sounds awful, but I think that's where we're going. It sounds awful not because Roman is bad, it's just a bit stale after 3 years of Roman as the main eventer. But yeah quite a fun Summerslam, and with one notable dumpster fire of a match, everything was quite sports entertaining. 8/10"

Roman's match formula can be effective if the crowd actually believes the Babyface can win, but since they didn't believe Jey could win they weren't making noise much of the match. Cody/Brock was my MOTN with Gunther/Drew not too far behind. The other stuff was mostly solid to good outside of Ronda/Shayna and the main event. Finn/Seth could've been better if a certain someone actually sold his shoulder, and Iyo cashing in was a cool moment"

No amount of Roman Reigns acting and star quality could save that booking of 36 minutes of too many weapons, interference and yet another turn in this storyline. None of the other matches was a show stealer either (and both women's matches were objectively bad) and the highlight of the night was LA Knight getting his long overdue big win."

[9.0] "Great SummerSlam PLE this year, Logan Paul vs Ricochet: Great match to start this year's SummerSlam PLE, one of the best matches of Logan Paul, just behind his match vs Roman Reigns, great athleticism from both men, even with the brass knuckles being used at the end, this was great [****1/2]. Brock Lesnar vs Cody Rhodes: The best of the 3 matches between the two, Cody Rhodes' passion and fire was admirable, Rhodes starting off how he did was good to see, Rhodes keep getting back up with the constant beatdown by Lesnar was admirable, Rhodes winning was good to see, can't wait to see if we get another match or if this is the end of the series between the two [****1/2]. Slim Jim Battle Royal: Fun battle royal with some cool moments and eliminations for example LA Knight eliminating Bronson Reed and Omos getting eliminated by 8 other competitors, LA Knight winning was the right choice [***]. Ronda Rousey vs Shayna Baszler: Not a bad shoot style fight, Ronda passing out instead of tapping was the right choice [***].Gunther vs Drew McIntyre: It fell a bit lower of the expectations I had heading into the match, they still gave a great performance but not of the absolute banger standard that Gunther usually performs at [***3/4]. Finn Balor vs Seth Rollins: Better than I expected it to be, better than their MITB PLE Match, Damian Priest and Finn Balor's dissension appears to be continuing and quite intrigued to see where it goes from here, Rollins winning was right and the way he won was good to see with Priest throwing in his MITB briefcase and Rollins hitting The Stomp on the briefcase to Balor was ingenius [****1/4]. Asuka vs Bianca Belair vs Charlotte Flair: Great match between three of WWE's best women wrestlers, so much physical action between the three, I liked the ending of the match where Asuka sprayed the mist into the face of Flair then Belair rolled Asuka into an inside cradle for the win [****1/2]. IYO SKY vs Bianca Belair: Just a basic MITB cash-in [DUD]. Jey Uso vs Roman Reigns: One of the best if not the best matches within the reign of Roman Reigns, the psychology and storytelling of the match made for a compelling match and a great way to continue the storyline of the Bloodline, Jimmy making a return and costing his own brother Jey the match was a whole new level within the Bloodline story and cant wait to see where it goes from here on out [*****]"

All and all not the best PPV of the year with a good amount of highlights but a bad main event"

He has broken Cody's arm before. Cody also used the stairs in a regular match and should have been DQ'd. The Slim Jim battle royal felt out of place. Just give LA Knight a singles match if you want to give him a push. Baszler vs Rousey was terrible. MMA rules match and the ref didn't seem to understand what that meant. Gunther vs Drew slapped. Great match. Rollins vs Balor was alright and the shenanigans from Judgement Day actually helped the match. The triple threat for the women's title felt awkward. Too many times one of them stood around not knowing what to do. Belair faking an injury was also not cool. IYO running in to cash in and win was excellent though. Really got my attention back. The main event was bad. This Bloodline story just keeps having stupid twists and they are trying to drag it out until WrestleMania."

The build up really dragged on, but there was excitement for a few of the matches, but the whole thing just fell totally flat. Omitting Lynch and Stratus was a total nonsense, especially when major billing was given to a drab Rousey v Baszler affair and a random Battle Royal with no prize or reason for being. The main event was a total fizzer, and a few others were just there matches. Really disappointing show."

But everything else just felt anticlimatic. The main event was not a 10% of what they sold us the weeks before and getting Ronda vs Shayna instead of Becky Lynch vs Trish Stratus was an insult."

Presentation and production were absolutely on point, and while there weren't any shockingly crazy story developments, nearly every match was solid and provided some form of advancement in their respective storylines. I wish there weren't as many dirty finishes, and quite frankly I feel like the Balor finish was more insulting than the Jimmy swerve, (Jey needed to do something with Jimmy for these next few months, I just hope the explanation is sensible and not brushed over like Brock's motivation for attacking Cody was) but overall this was a seriously fun PPV, way above the cut of most as far as match quality and watchability go."
