[5.0] "There were a couple of stand out matches and some that could have been better booked, for the situation with COVID-19 at that time WWE adapted well to hold WrestleMania during the pandemic without fans in the WWE Performance Centre even if it was Night 1 of 2. Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross vs Asuka & Kairi Sane: Cross rose to the occasion of WrestleMania in a solid showing, Bliss and Cross winning the titles was the right choice, an overall solid match to open the show even if it had more time than it needed [***1/4]. Elias vs King Corbin: A boring match that would have fell flat if there were fans in attendance, the finish was weak and would have been better suited on RAW or Smackdown [*1/2]. Becky Lynch vs Shayna Baszler: A fine match that would have benefited from more time, could have been booked a bit better [**1/4]. Sami Zayn vs Daniel Bryan: Bryan got distracted by Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura at ringside, Zayn winning was fine but would like to have seen Bryan win the title [**]. John Morrison vs Jimmy Uso vs Kofi Kingston: A unique tag team title ladder match, some incredible spots in thid one, all three brought their A game [****]. Kevin Owens vs Seth Rollins: What started as an okay singles match that ended in a DQ that was an easy way out restarted as a No DQ match that had a few solid spots and Owens jumping off the WrestleMania sign was the highlight [***].  Braun Strowman vs Goldberg: A very quick Universal Title match that was not bad but could have bern more timed [*1/4]. The Undertaker vs AJ Styles: A great cinematic match that they adapted to the environment well, even with The Good Brothers on the scene Undertaker held his own and Styles did well throughout, an enjoyable watch from start to finish [****1/4]"

On the one hand I was glad wrestling was happening but on the other it was so depressing. Everything in the world sucked during this time and this show was no exception. I really wish we could've seen this in a proper mania setting."

[2.0] "Bliss and Cross Vs Kabuki Warriors was solid and the WWE Tag Title triple threat ladder match, Owen's Vs Rollins No DQ and Undertaker Vs Styles were all fantastic, but everything else on the show ranged from bad to flat out horrible and it's hard to watch or look back on anything from this show because of the serve lack of a crowd, killing the vibe and momentum that this show could've had if Covid never happened. Overall WWE WrestleMania 36 (2020) while not a offensively awful show by its own fault with a few highlights that kept people entertained during the cursed era of modern wrestling, is a very depressing one to look back at."

[8.0] "A good event, it was clear the ravages that the pandemic did but it still has good matches, Kabuki vs Alexa/Nikki: good way to start the night, I liked to see Asuka and Kairi like Heels who made fun of. Elias vs Corbin: This was the worst match of the night, it was usually not bad, but very boring and with little helplessness, the whole story is bad and meaningless. Shayna vs Becky: This is not bad, it is not much remembered for the moment where it happened, if it had passed with public, it would be more recognized. Ugual this feels like a Becky defense, but Shayna's arrival in Elimination Chamber is incredible. Sami vs Daniel: Sadly this was bad, it was obvious that they could more but the situation was not good. Drew recently, is absurd to help so little, Cesaro and Shinsuke helped Sami, but at what cost? They were a wall that only protected Zayn, Sami escaped and hid, and Daniel was a cartoon, he couldn't do something well and everything was against him, a misfortune of match. Morrison vs Kofi vs Jimmy: This was incredible, everyone had a great moment, the action was dynamic but not heavy. Kevin vs Seth: Start quite well, but the really good happened later in the rematch, where there were no DQ, the best match of the night. Braun vs Goldberg: Mediocre, a basic squash. Taker vs Aj, a good match, special for being Taker's last match, feels special."

"Unfortunately mid. The matches themselves were decent to good, especially KO-Rollins and the Ladder, but the lack of a crowd completely kills the whole thing. I know it was out of their control, but I wish WWE went back after the Pandemic and re-edited crowd noise back into the show (maybe a special screening in front of a crowd in MSG or something), but as it stands it's just a bit shit. The Boneyard match was the only one not effected by the crowd issue, and that was good for what it was."

The Boneyard Match was pretty good though."

[7.0] "A pretty blah first part of the show. From the ladder match onwards it really starts to get interesting. The Main Event is superb. Strowman Vs Goldberg didn't bother me more than that as it was expeditious. Becky Lynch's entry into her truck looks really cheap. The conditions of this WrestleMania meant that, but they did really well to put on a good show. The segments with Rawley and the Gronk are painful but there aren't many of them, the commercials between the matches are quite quick. I had a good time watching it, especially the second part. The first one was a bit painful to watch. MOTN: Undertaker Vs AJ Styles (3*3/4)"

[6.0] "Flawed Mania, and in a sub-optimal setting, but pretty alright shorter show anyways. Women's tag was a decent opener with not much to highlight but good enough work (6/10) Corbin/Elias was a weird choice a boring at times but not awful (4/10) Becky/Shayna never really clicked with me and had the wrong result (4/10) Zayn/Bryan was going fine with a lot of cowardly heel schtick but it just ended as it looked like it was hitting the next gear (5/10) After that we move into the more interesting part of the card with the Triple Threat ladder match, that had plenty of fun spots with all three guys getting to shine (8/10) Seth/Owens being a really good showcase with a memorable finish (8/10) Goldberg/Strowman being not much of a match but at least a strong win for Braun (4/10) and the Boneyard match being an innovative and fun way to give Taker an actual entertaining Mania match (8/10). Nocrowds certainly hurt and the choice of matches to have wasn't perfect, but its more enjoyable than some full fledged Manias"

GMS18 wrote on 18.04.2023:
[5.0] "The lack of crowd may not help this show but it's not to blame for it being mediocre either, there just isn't that much quality stuff happening. Opener is decent, Elias/Corbin is pretty dull but not totally awful, and that's followed by two matches that sound cool on paper but sadly don't live up to it. Lynch/Baszler is fine but never hits a second gear and they build Shayna up so much only for her to fall here and flounder on the main roster. Might not have been too bad if Becky had more of a reign left but of course she winds up having to vacate and never gets to put anyone over in the end. Bryan/Zayn is alright for what it is, I come away feeling slightly positive about it with Sami as the funny heel stalling and stalling before getting a beating, but it's hard not to think what this match really could and should be. The ladder match and Rollins/KO pick things up, both fun with inventive spots in the former and Owens' dive off the sign in the latter. Strowman and Goldberg's finisher spam is what it is, about two years too late for world champ Strowman but it was a last-minute replacement after all. The Boneyard match is MOTN in all its goofy glory, I dunno how you can't laugh along and have a good time with it. A recurring issue with the show is that it's an odd snapshot of how WWE really didn't know what to do with themselves when everything shut down, with the Steph thing and weird intro and general awkward feeling, but in the case of the main event they actually took advantage of it well and stuck the landing."

[5.0] "Much shorter than the last few Wrestlemania's and in some places even harder to watch. The first few matches range from solid to bad but the lack of atmosphere totally killed it. Things pick up with the ladder match, Kevin/Seth and the cool Boneyard match though and leaves this on a good note but that first hour and a half was pretty dire. Corbin/Elias at Wrestlemania? Bryan not even having a good match? Goldberg/Braun feeling entirely pointless? Hard to shake that."

Becky vs Shayna was okay. Even though a lot didn't like the IC title match, I thought it was okay because it made sense for the current Sami Zayn character. The ladder match was the in-ring match of both nights to me. Rollins vs Owens was underwhelming to me. Goldberg vs Braun was one of the more boring finisher spamfests. Boneyard match was fun though and it was a good final match for Taker."

Bliss-Cross vs Sane-Asuka - 1. 75*. Nothing unusual. Another awkward team match. Lynch-Shayna is a disgrace. just a disgrace 0*. Zayn-Bryan - 1. 75*. Tag team titles were not bad, but overbooking killed everything good there too - 3. 5*. Owens vs. Seth is the show? s best match, but he was also killed by overbooking. Owens didn't deserve to win because he was catching up in this confrontation. The way he called Seth to battle after his victory is CRINGE. At least we saw a beautiful welcome at the end - 3. 5*. Braun Strowman vs. Goldberg - just disgusting match. I hate it. Bruh. 0* Taker vs Styles - terrible work of an audio director. The sound of the blows was too nasty. The work of the operator was not bad. The Script is cliched inappropriately, and AJ hand in the grave was as rubbery as the script for this match is. I just hope that this fight somehow changes AJ - 2. 75* Of course, this is the worst WrestleMania I have ever seen. Yes-yes it is worse than 32"

And although without the fans it felt a bit dull, it was a good effort by WWE. The opening was good, Owens Vs Rollins was very good until that shit first finish, Tge Triple Threat ladder was very good but most of all AJ main eventing his first WrestleMania against Undertaker in what i thought was a no good excuse of a match defied all expectations and was actually very good. If the fans were there this could have been really magical. On a side note Becky Vs Shayna was shit, Elias Vs Baron Corbin had no place in WrestleMania and Daniel Bryan Vs Sami Zayn( which in my opinion could have been ****+) was nowhere as good as what I wanted it to be."

[Becky Lynch vs Shayna Baszler] - Still on watchlist, haven't rated. [Sami Zayn vs Daniel Bryan] - 3 1/2 stars (Match of the Night). [John Morrison vs Kofi Kingston vs Jimmy Uso] - 3 1/4 stars. [Kevin Owens vs Seth Rollins] - 3 1/4 stars. [Goldberg vs Braun Strowman] - 3/4 of a star (Worst of the Night). [The Undertaker vs AJ Styles] - 3 1/4 stars. Average Match rating: 2. 54 of 5 (or 5. 08 of 10). Rounded to 5 for Cagematch."

[6.0] "The overall show was probably better than Night 2 (Sami Zayn vs Daniel Bryan, the Smackdown Tag Title triple threat and Owens vs Rollins flowed much better than a lot of Night 2) but the two key matches on Night 1 (Boneyard and the World title match) both fell short of their Night 2 equivalents. Downsides of this night were a dreary and out of place Elias vs Corbin match, an empty feeling first World Championship win for Braun (though WWE's hands were increasingly tied) and I really felt that Kofi Kingston was owed the Smackdown tag title victory on this night given that he was the absolute highlight of last year's WrestleMania, this seems particularly true when The New Day gained the titles so soon after Mania anyway."
Wrestlefan20 wrote on 11.05.2020:
[8.0] "The women's tag title match was ok. Same with Elias and King Corbin. Shayna vs Becky Lynch should have been a bit longer. By the time it got interesting, it was over. The Sami Zayn vs Daniel Bryan match was good, but the finish felt a bit underwhelming. The ladder match was great and full of action. The ending was also pretty creative. The Owens vs Rollins match was above average, but making it 2 matches made Rollins look very weak. Braun vs Goldberg just happened. The Boneyard match was pretty good. Not that much wrestling, but it told a good story. Some matches didn't live up to the hype, but this was an overall good first night."

[6.0] "I enjoyed the Ladder Match. and the Boneyard Match in an ironic sense. I also thought the Women's Tag match was alright, and though Owens vs Rollins was overbooked, the solid wrestling and the huge dive was enough to make me enjoy that also. However, the rest of the show was fairly boring. Elias vs King Corbin was a snore fest in which no-one comes out looking good. Corbin lost because he was caught cheating and Elias cheated to win. Becky Lynch vs Shayna Baszler was alright, but the finish just made no sense. Baszler is meant to be this prize fighter who learns from every match she fights, but she lost in the same way she did at TakeOver: Brooklyn IV, and Becky Lynch has seemingly beaten everyone. She's grown stale because of a badly booked Women's Title run where, she feuded with Lacey Evans and won, feuded with Natalya and won, feuded with Sasha Banks and won, feuded with Asuka and won, and feuded with Baszler and now apparently won. This will damage Shayna, possibly beyond repair. She was built up so much and just like a Cena or Roman feud of the past, was beaten clean. And speaking of Reigns, his absence was felt not just in the way that WWE didn't mention him at all on the show, but in the match itself. It was a three minute finisher fest, which Strowman won three years too late for anyone to really care. And finally, Zane vs Bryan was good character work, but not the wrestling clinic these two could put on if given half a chance."

The main event was very entertaining and I wouldn't be opposed to only seeing the Undertaker like this from now on as they were able to hide how beat up he is. Elsewhere the ladder match was also good, as was Owens vs Rollins and the opener. On the other hand, however, Elias vs Corbin was a complete waste of time and both Becky/Shayna and Bryan/Zayn were slightly disappointing."

[6.0] "With the show set to go on - and I think it probably should've been postponed and perhaps merged with SummerSlam this year - WrestleMania in the time of COVID-19 was certain to be a strange beast. With the event set in the performance center with no audience instead of a packed stadium, it certainly had a different feel throughout, with some moments that should've felt huge feeling somewhat flat, but on the other hand the format did offer an opportunity for some experimentation. The first night was somewhat mixed - most matches being average-to-good, with standouts including Alexa/Nikki vs. Kabuki Warriors, Becky vs. Shayna, Zayn vs. Bryan and Owens vs. Rollins, some less-than-great booking decisions (they couldn't have waited to put the Tag Titles on the line until both champions were available? ) and some that should've happened earlier (Strowman finally gets the title, but about two years too late). The Boneyard Match is the most talked-about and likely will be the most memorable part of night 1, though I'm not sure I got out of it what the majority seems to have - as "cinematches" go, it was okay, but a pure brawl isn't what Styles is best at, and it lacked a lot of the camp factor that made previous matches of this sort (i. e. Final Deletion) truly entertaining to me. Night 1 overall was a decent enough wrestling show even if it didn't truly feel like WrestleMania."

[8.0] "I was presently suprised by this. I wasn't that excited for 'Mania at all this year but left night 1 absolutely draw dropped and really looking forward to night 2. I really enjoyed the triple threat ladder match and Owens vs Rollins, but the boneyard match absolutely stole the show. Obviously it had it's downsides, like the lack of a crowd for example, but there was nothing WWE could have done about that and they put on a great show despite the circumstances. However, I did not enjoy the Universal Title match, despite finally seeing Braun win the title. And as much as I like Elias, I was disappointed when he actually came out. After what Corbin did to him just over a week ago, it is rediculous to think he would show up AND beat Corbin. I was hoping swe would get to see a suprise opponent face Corbin instead. But once again, fantastic show and well done WWE for pulling this off under these circumstances"

[6.0] "First Wrestlemania in years, mostly because of the shorter run time. Fairly solid tag match opens the show with the champs looking as vicious as they've been portrayed. Cross was the star here. Elias vs Corbin was OK. Nothing special. Baszler and Lynch was a fun and solid match that could have used a bit more time. Baszler was stiff with her shots. I can live without the finish tho. Bryan and Zayn could have been a classic, but it was alright at best. Finish was cool. I enjoyed the ladder match. Given the circumstances, all men did extremely well. The right person won. Rollins vs Owens was another good one. I didn't quite like the DQ finish but it helped with the eventual finish. The Universal title match was as it should have been. Good for Strowman. I got Lucha Underground vibes from the main event. I loved it. Great cinematography, great atmosphere, great action. I loved Taker bringing back an old gimmick. Easily the best thing on this night of the show. I wonder what will happen to AJ going forward. A very solid event, with some misses and a great main event."

[9.0] "Honestly I enjoyed this night more than night 2 as all the matches performed at least up to my expectations and most exceeded my expectations. Bliss/Cross vs Kabuki Warriors: Great match by all four women, would love to see women's tag titles given better treatment as you have this kind of talent in the women's division. Elias vs Corbin: didn't expect a lot from this match so a quick simple match was good. Lynch vs Baszler: Two amazing technical women, defiantly hurt by the lack of audience but very good in ring action and the ending was a surprise that I believe will lead to a better rematch down the line. Zayn vs Bryan. probably the match that disappointed me the most with how much talent these two have, still really enjoyed their abilities to tell the story. Morrison vs Kingston vs Uso: thought this would be an great match but it still exceeded my expectations, overall best true match on the card. Rollins vs Owens was great, the fake disqualification finish got me at the time and I was temporary upset about the outcome, think it improved the match looking back, overall two great talents putting on a good match with one insane spot. Goldberg vs Strowman was exactly what I expected short match like WWE2K if finishers are unlimited. Undertaker vs Styles: went in with low expectations but ended up thinking it was the best Undertaker match i've seen in a long time, understand it won't please everyone but I loved it, my favorite match of Wrestlemania both nights. Overall really loved the first night, best WWE PPV I've seen in a long time."

Becky vs Shayna was OK. Sami vs Bryan was fine, could've done without the stalling at the start and more actual wrestling, considering they only went 9 minutes. The ladder match was good and was the MOTN. Owens vs Rollins was decent, the first finish was dumb, considering it made it look even more like winning or losing doesn't matter anyway. Strowman vs Goldberg was awful. Taker vs Styles was entertaining, even though at times it came off as self indulgence by Undertaker lashing at out at his critics."

Elias and Corbin was a waste of time. Becky is now unbeatable, dunno what she's supposed to do now, there's no challengers left. the tag match was decent and i just dont udnerstand what they're doing with Zayn, why isnt he allowed to wrestle properly anymore. Tough situation with no live audience but even considering that, I don't think the matches held up. Zayn running away with no live audience felt so long and boring. Also, using an out-of-shot crash mat in a ladder match is laughable. They're pretenders of pretenders at this point. Just a boring and very lame event. In a way, this event kind of reminded me of those Big Bang Theory videos where they remove the canned laughter and let the material stand up on its own. Only thing I'd half-way recommend here is Styles vs The Undertaker purely for the novelty value."

Becky ends up being a Rubber match stretching to next Wrestlemania, but good match until the roll-up finish. The "Tag Team" Tripple Threat was really fun, great spots from everybody and a great finish. Rollins v. Owens was great, with the false DQ leading to the spot where Ownes jumped from the Wrestlemania sign. Strowman v. Goldberg was underwhelming. Lastly, the boneyard match was fun, but ultimately a bit messy."

Whether it was the Boneyard Match between AJ Styles and the Undertaker which I found very good, or the final of the match between Becky Lynch and Shayna Baszler which enraged me (why they chose to leave the title to Becky, I ask you), this first night of WrestleMania was very nice. Can't wait to see the second night."

[3.0] "This isn't a show that should divide opinion, overall it was terrible with a select few highlights. Nobody should be dishing out 10s when the first 90 minutes were not fit for an old edition of Heat, this is supposed to be Wrestlemania for God's sake! The first two matches aren't worthy of comment. Baszler can't wrestle and Lynch can't do mock MMA, they both showed the worst of their skills and the result was a complete mess. Creative's destruction of Sami Zayn is complete and booking like this has no place on the flagship PPV - another terrible effort from two incredibly talented wrestlers. The ladder match was severely lacking in spectacular spots and one of the safest I've seen, Wrestlemania deserves more risk. KO and Rollins first match was another flop, but at least the no DQ version finally provided a "Wrestlemania Moment! " Strowman and Goldberg had 8 moves, 4 spears and 4 powerslams - whoever sanctioned that needs to be fired. I was so looking forward to this Boneyard match, it should have been brilliant, but what was offered, although beautifully filmed, was a walking battle of pretend right handers, some random people in hoods, and Anderson and Gallows finally taking some of the Undertaker's trademark moves. It wasn't good and the inferred death of Styles is classless and simply doesn't work. Overall, if people are genuinely rating this as adequate, I'd love to read some proper justification, because what I saw was largely extremely bad."

[8.0] "That was a fun show. Some good matches, some great moments, some baffling decisions. + : Strowman Universal Champion, HELL YES ! , the Main Event, cool show that finally takes advantage of there being no crowd. The Triple Threat Ladder match, not groundbreaking, but the cool spectacle you'd expect. Rollins/Owens, exactly what it needed to be, I loved it. - : The finish of the Elias/Corbin made no sense for the rivalry. Elias wants revenge, he should not be happy with a quick "I outsmarted you" ending. I'm otherwise happy for Elias, but I also think it's bad for Corbin to lose at WM, where he should start to build a legacy. I mean, he retired Angle on year, then lost in a quickly put together match with Elias the next ? Meh. The RAW Women's Title match was short but fine for what it was. I don't get the decision to get Becky over though, what is she gonna do now ? Is Shayna just gonna win the title next month ? =/ The ending of the Bryan/Zayn was a little bit lame. I get that it was a Helluva Kick in full motion, but Bryan was literally hit twice in the match. Otherwise the match was really good and clever. Overall, good show. I'd give it a 7, but there are idiots out there giving it a 1, so I'll crank it to 8 just to be fair."

[7.0] "I must admit this was far better then I expected it to be. No crowd was super weird at first but by the 3rd match I got used to it //// Opener was really fun, a pleasant surprise. (***1/2) //// Elias vs Corbin was 8 minutes but felt like an eternity, just boring. (*3/4) //// Lynch vs Baszler was pretty good, they played on the empty arena with striking hard as hell. I actually liked the ending though I disagree with who won. (***1/2) //// Bryan vs Zayn took a bit to get started but once it did it was pretty fun, nothing too crazy but good enough. (***1/4) //// The ladder match was crazy fun with loads of athleticism and really cool spots. I think it almost worked better than having 3 other guys in the ring. (***3/4) //// Kevin vs Seth was really fun, Seth is nearly untouchable as a heel and I liked the DQ spot. (***1/2) //// Braun vs Goldberg was exactly what you thought it would be if you expected anything different that's your fault (DUD) //// The main event was an experience. I loved every second and it was so refreshing. No doubt it was 100x better then any singles match would have been between the two. I'm not sure how I am supposed to rate it so I will not."

[6.0] "Bryan vs Zayn was a good match, with good ending. Ladder Match was great, match of the show. KO vs Rollins was nice thanks to Owens, ME was, something not bad but it wasn't what i expect from a wrestling match. Rest was terrible. Especially Becky's victory, I'm still angry about it. 1 point for Zayn's victory, 2 point for Ladder match, 2 point for KO vs Rollins, 1 point for ME."

Bryan/Zayn was such a fascinating, excellent match-up between two of the best, KO/Rollins was much better than expected & very good + Taker/AJ was a complete spectacle & I loved every second of it. Everything else was good as well with the exception of Corbin/Elias, but they kept it pretty short so no worries there. Incredibly fun show from top to bottom."

[6.0] "It's really sad how good it actually was. The best Wrestlemania card after a very long time. I think without the Corona circumstances this would've been a great first part of Wrestlemania. But the show just wasn't adjusted. Most matches needed a crowd, especially the ladder match. Only the Universal Championship match (as expected) would've been just as bad as it was. Some matches had some disappointing finishes, but e. g. Becky vs Shayna's finish may be disappointing on purpose to crown the feud end in a better situation. The ladder match was great, but I don't know why Rollins vs Owens is not recommended. The trash-talk and the storytelling was great and from the "normal" matches it was definitely my favourite. But the highlight was definitely the main-event: AJ Styles vs Undertaker. Exactly what the Undertaker needed to repair the damage and exactly how to benefit from the situation."

[2.0] "The Minor Stage of them all provided to us the worst once in a lifetime WrestleMania in history, at least for night one. We could easily see the lack of motivation in the wrestlers. This WrestleMania didn't suppose to happen. It should have been cancelled. The one and only match that was good enough for WM was Triple Ladder Match for the tag titles with many great spots and awesome ring awareness by all three guys ****1/4. Strowman vs Goldberg was terrible, even though it was taped. Bazsler vs Lynch was almost half of the time compared to the Womens Tag match, wtf, and it ended very suddenly and I even lauged at it. Undertaker vs AJ Styles was not even a wrestling match, this was some sort of action scene from a movie. However the show supposed to be WrestleMania, where two opponents go face to face in a wrestling ring and beat each other. This was a fight scene from a movie, that I didn't want to see. I wanted to see a wrestling match and this was more like a segment from the feud. Terrible show :("
