In one segment, CM Punk, already regarded as one of the best wrestlers in the world, completely reinvented himself. What makes it so remarkable is the sheer shock value: after months of building goodwill with the fans and the locker room, Punk tore it all down in an instant. Watching him betray the ROH roster and openly ridicule the legendary Ricky Steamboat, mocking Steamboat for naively believing Punk had truly changed, is as jaw-dropping now as it was the night it happened. It wasn't just a heel turn; it was a declaration of war on the company's spirit. What followed was the beginning of the original, and in my opinion, best Summer of Punk, a run so perfectly executed that it set the bar for every similar storyline that's come since. The tension, the unpredictability, the venom in Punk's words... it all felt dangerously real. This was the kind of moment that makes you forget you're watching a show and pulls you into the illusion completely. Simply put, this was lightning in a bottle, and no amount of retelling can capture the electricity of seeing it live."

[10.0] "The best promo punk ever cut and probably a top 5 promo ever. It's mesmerisingly good, the way he leads everyone on and starts subtly hinting and slowly turning heel. It also kickstarter one of the best angles in wrestling history in the best possible way. The greatest thing about it though, is how fully it understands the character CM Punk was always meant to play, this dude's best work is as a smart, slimy and detestable heel and this promo encapsulates it."
[7.0] "Not as high on this promo as most but you can't deny it's significance and how ballsy it is to turn heel purely with a promo after working a 30 minute match where the crowd couldn't be more behind you. The overall content of the promo is a bit hit-and-miss, telling a story of an old man and a snake and telling the audience that you are the evil person in the story is a bit forced, the idea that Punk was using them the whole time is kinda cool though and pretty believable coming from him. It feels like there was probably a better way to go about it, ROH prides itself on the in-ring action but given it's meant to be Punk's last match in ROH, there could've been *something* bigger to make an emphatic heel turn. Maybe emphasising the fact he was gonna take the ROH title to WWE with him would've got under the crowds skin and made for a more convincing villain angle but for what this is, it's still a very well executed promo and for the most part it works because there's a lot of fans who seem genuinely angry when he runs away. My favourite line might be after this when Daniels wants an impromptu match for the belt and Punk says "kiss my ass, you can wait another 16 months.""
[10.0] "This promo & moment is one of the greatest things ever. The crowd was totally 100% behind him in the match vs. Aries, and then he goes and cuts this epic promo, where he basically flips them off. It's promos like this why CM Punk is seen as a legendary talker."

Da war er schon Heel und trotzdem gab es vereinzelten Jubel für ihn doch der hielt sich in Grenzen. Punk hat hier wie ein Puppenspieler den Crowd gelenkt und reingelegt. Das er dann aber wirklich später zu WWE ging dachte man nun bei dieser Heel Promo nicht mehr, großartige Promo von ihm."

Die Leute sind zum Teil so schockiert, dass sie den Champion nicht einmal mehr ausbuhen. Genau das ist es, was die Promo so genial macht, sei es nun, ob Teile davon "geklaut" sind. Auf jeden Fall ist die Art, WIE die Promo vorgetragen wird das, was sie ausmacht, 10 Punkte."

Was dann folgt war eine Tirade gegen alles, wofür er in den letzten anderthalb Jahren stand. Auch wenn die Promo sicherlich ein wenig zu intellektuell daherkam und an einigen Stellen doch arg auswendig gelernt wirkte, war sie doch sehr intensiv und hat genau das erreicht, wofür sie gedacht war: Die Leute haben Punk gehasst."

Punk hat hier Versatzstücke alter Promos seiner offensichtlichen Vorbilder Raven ("The greatest trick the devil ever pulled") und Jake Roberts ("I'm a snake") zu einem bemüht intelligent und tiefsinnig anmutendem Brei verrührt, der auf mich aber einfach nur künstlich wirkt und auch gar nicht zu der Situation passt, in der die Promo gehalten wird. Er hat gerade einen Tweener-Champ fair besiegt und redet daher, als hätte er grad Gandhi ermordet. Das fügt sich nicht gescheit zusammen."

Gerade in der Umgebung von smarten Fans ist es eine Kunst, diese Fans, die einen gerade zum Gewinn des World Titles gejubelt haben, in wenigen Sätzen komplett gegen sich aufzubringen, so dass sie wünschen, der nächste vorbeilaufende Wrestler würde einem den Arsch aufreißen. Es war der Beginn von Punks letztem großen Run als Heel-ROH Champion, bevor er in den Mühlen der WWE Maschine gleichgeschaltet wurde."
