[After beating Chavo Guerrero (aka Chavo Guerrero Sr. aka Chavo Guerrero Classic) on the 2th February 1981 in a 2-out-of-3-falls match, Gino Hernandez is now NWA World International Junior Heavyweight champion. He meets with Paul Boesch in the interview arena to discuss the scheduled rematch]
Paul Boesch: "And now - without his limousine, without his necktie, without a girl on each arm, without the Dom Perignon champagne - is the man who--"
Gino Hernandez: "But not without the World Junior Heavyweight Title! Internationally, I am number one in the world, Paul Boesch. Now, at least I think, the least you can do is have enough class to congratulate me."
Paul Boesch: "Well, I would congratulate you if there wasn't so much dissension. If you can prove on the 20th, if you can prove on the 20th of March, that you didn't put one over on the referee, and defeated Chavo, uh, properly and gracefully, we'll be glad to congratulate you."
Gino Hernandez: "Oh Boesch, referees don't have anything to do with it. And you, Chavo Guerrero, on the tape crying about 'Oh I spent two years of my life away from my family to achieve winning this belt in Tokyo, Japan.' Well Chavo, like the saying goes 'A fool loses tomorrow reaching back for yesterday' so Chavo you're an idiot, and Paul Boesch you're an idiot, for making me have to defend my title in a rematch with him, because I clearly beat the man, right in the middle of the ring. And Chavo, now I think you should go back to Mexico and open up a taco stand and your wife can be a waitress and--"
Paul Boesch: "Well may I tell you this--
Gino Hernandez: [off-mic] "--and you'll have to be a cook!"
Paul Boesch: "--ladies and gentlemen; since referees don't mean anything to Gino Hernandez, I have signed Lou Thesz, six times World's Heavyweight Champion, to handle the battle between Chavo Guerrero and Gino Hernandez, the champion, next uh-- Friday--" [see Note 1]
Gino Hernandez: "You have no right to do that, Boesch!
Paul Boesch: "-- March, the 20th."
Gino Hernandez: " You have no right to do that!"
Paul Boesch: "I have right-- He was appointed by the National Wrestling Alliance, and I concurred that this would be a good idea, and YOU - who say referees have nothing to do with it - may find out that with Lou Thesz as referee that YOU are going to... have your hands full--"
Gino Hernandez: "Paul Boesch, you have no right to stick a man that's been six-time world champion-- He should be retired, and away, and gone - you don't need Lou Thesz here! You don't need-- that's not important, Paul Boesch--!"
Paul Boesch: "He'll be here! He'll be here!"
Gino Hernandez: "-- he does not matter. A referee doesn't have anything to do with it when I'm in the ring--"
Paul Boesch: "He'll be here!"
Gino Hernandez: "Well, he'll be here, but let me tell you, and you Chavo, and you the people of Houston - when I leave the ring on the 20th, this belt's gonna stay around my waist because, Paul Bosch, Chavo Guerrero talks about two years to get it, it took me five and a half years, and I intend to eat with it on, to jog was it on, to train with it on, to sleep with it on, to kiss my girlfriends with it on, and ride my limousines with it on!" [Hernandez storms off]
Paul Boesch: [to camera] "Gino Hernandez. But I mentioned something that would change the complexion of that match; we will have Lou Thesz here, on December [actually March] the 20th, Lou Thesz will be the referee, he will be the official for that battle and it should be a sensational affair."
- Note 1: It's difficult to exactly date this promo, but judging by Boesch correcting himself (he starts to say "next Friday" and then changes to just "Friday") it was possibly on the Sunday 15th March 1981 episode of Houston Wrestling. If not, then it was likely a week or two earlier.
