Fighters have to adapt into this technical, more strategic style if they want to remain the top of the class as a Pure champion. Nigel McGuinness was probably the best champion. The ROH Pure Rules definitely aren't the most exciting stipulation for some, so it takes a wrestler with a very particular set of skills to not only make some of those matches the highlight of the promotion, but also to have it be beloved enough for it to eventually be bought back in 2020, it's safe to say that Nigel helped in putting its name in ROH history. However, he's not the only great champion. You'll notice by it's list of champions that it has quite the legacy, with ROH seemingly always knowing who to put the title on and at what time, because they can get the best out of this unique set of rules. It's definitely a belt for people more into technical wrestling, but it's also a good way to get people into this traditional grappling style. |

In fact its weird because its not like there was ever a "pure" division in Ring of Honor. The stipulations for ROH Pure Title matches are a novel concept, and I applaud ROH for coming up with the concept. I wish they'd return to the 15-min time limit stipulation, as well (I think it worked really well in building urgency within the match, and it gave us a third possible outcome - a draw - which leads to the judge's panel). But, overall, I think this a good concept and it's fun to watch technical wrestlers build new spots and submissions inside the parameters of the format. |

It would have been interesting to see what other wrestlers might have done after Nigel set the standard for the pure title, but unfortunately nobody got the chance. |
