Even having his place in the world he could not keep it, after the closure of ECW, he was never able to have another secure place, small appearances in WWE, IWA Mid-South are the most memorable thing he did afterwards, but his fall began even before, with a product that was changing, along with the Jerry Lynns, the RVDs, The Mike Awesomes, there was no longer room for The Sandman."

But he couldn't wrestle worth a damn and it really showed thru the later years where he chased paychecks on the indy scene. He captured the spirit of ECW's reckless energy, but once the music stopped, the smoke cleared, and the kendo stick was gone, there wasn't much there"

Not quiet Giant Gonzales level of bad, so that's something. He could do a moonsault ... sort of. Imagine your uncle had one too many beers at the BBQ and tried to do a moonsault into a pool. That was kind of how it was. Sometimes he'd walk to the ring seemingly in a daze and his entrance would last 4 times longer than the match."
[1.0] "He undoubtedly had charisma and was perfect for the very niche within a niche ECW crowd. Besides his entrance, he lacked almost everything needed to be a successful wrestler. He wasn't athletic, he wore clothes you'd see an unemployed dad wear, and couldn't really cut a real promo. He was carried in every feud he was in by a superior wrestler. Especially with Raven and Cactus Jack. His run in WCW really exposed him and showed just how terrible of a wrestler he really was. His name, Hardcore Hak was clearly a rib and I found it funny at the time since I was a WCW fan and had friends really into ECW."

Not athletic at all, wrestling ability isn't great... BUT! He has a certain aura about him, he stands out above everybody else. Crazy as this may sound, he's a star. His run in WWE was awful, but honestly that's because they didn't have a clue how to use somebody like him. No point in sending him out there expecting him to have a great match against the likes of Carlito or Mr. Kennedy around that time, that's just not his forte. Was great in hardcore matches because his wrestling ability gets overshadowed by the inclusion of weapons, blood, etc., very unique wrestler, a product of his time, mic skills were... eh, I would say alright, nothing crazy but he wasn't awful. As a gimmick, character, whatever you want to call it, Sandman was great. Wrestling wise? Not so much."
[8.0] "Sandman is a guy who was over mainly for his gimmick, offering a unique presence and charisma. He was known for his unique entrances and use of kendo sticks as weapons. As a wrestler compared to some of his ECW contemporaries, he wasn't among the best in-ring performers. He's probably above New Jack, but much lower than an RVD or a Sabu. Those guys could do a lot more in the ring. But Sandman didn't get over by being a technician or high flyer. He's more of a basic brawler type of hardcore wrestler."

Someone could be the greatest technical wrestler in the world but if they can't make me FEEL something, anything, then they're worthless to me. Sandman is one of the top examples for me, no, he could never be accused of being masterful in the ring but when he has as much presence as he had in his prime, he didn't need to be. I never go into a Sandman match expecting a five star classic, but it's rare I go away disappointed. I'd be remiss to neglect to mention some of the great feuds he'd had in the past, most notably with Raven, always fun to revisit"

[8.0] "One of the guys who epitomizes Heyman's ECW philosophy of showing strength's and hiding weaknesses. The beer swilling, cigarette smoking, cane swinging, fight picking, hardcore icon persona got over to the point that he really didn't have to wrestle. All he had to do was crack a beer can on his head, hit somebody with a kendo stick, the whole routine, and that's all the people needed to see from him. He didn't need to be a good worker or have 100 moves in his moveset. I also think he had one of the top 5 entrances of all time. Enter Sandman is like 5 minutes and something seconds, and sometimes it'd play at least twice before he ever got to the ring, and the fans sang it at the top of their lungs the whole time eating it up."
[7.0] "Whether you love him for his ability to entertain us or hate him for y'know his lack technical ability, The Sandman sure knows how to get positive reactions from the crowd.And while I can't give him above an 8 since I don't think he is y'know a good wrestler I still love the man to death"

He's no technical masterclass but one can't deny the enjoyment of singing Enter Sandman aloud while he makes his entrance, or the viscous beatings he'd lay out courtesy of his Singapore cane. People also seem to forget that Sandman holds the record for most reigns with the ECW world title, topping the list at 5 reigns in total. That itself is no easy feat and is deserving of praise."
[6.0] "Look, was Sandman any more than an entrance? No. But that's what makes him so memorable. In fact, I can't name anyone who had a cooler entrance than ECW's Hardcore Icon. The only thing that keeps him from getting a higher score is that he only worked that well in ECW. His stuff in WCW and WWE ECW just didn't work for me."

A shame his WWE run couldn't have lasted longer. It doesn't seem to be remembered fondly, but from what I recall he was positioned in a featured role much like The Boogeyman was at the time. Even watered down, The Sandman was still popping crowds then just like he does today."

[8.0] "I would of given 10 too Sandman but after his Surfer Gimmick in early ECW hell no, i never enjoyed wrestling and as a kid i loved The Sandman he was the guy that got me into pro wrestling today, if the Sandman was never around i would not be a loyal superfan too wrestling, His beer drinking and smoking / HC style was good, not the best in ring wrestler but he made it up with betting someone down with a kendostick."

Heyman gets overrated at times, but I have to give him a ton of credit for getting Sandman over despite him being pretty shit at wrestling and completely reliant on hardcore matches to even go, made even worse by him getting himself drunk or worse before a match. He's one of the symbols of the more trash brawling side of ECW that many like to glean over. He's not a good promo, and there's no resemblance of ring psychology or anything. Just terrible."

Eine Wertung ist schwierig: Wrestlerisch wahrscheinlich mit viel Wohlwollen 4 Punkte, aber für alles andere kann man durchaus höher gehen, dementsprechend wurden es am Ende 7 Punkte. ''Exit light! When I think of the face of ECW, I don't think Taz or RVD or Sabu or Foley or Funk or Dreamer... the first face that pops in my head is Sandman's. He was a man of the time & the environment. His three way against Funk & Stevie is very memorable. And his entrance was always a highlight."

Ihr wisst schon - der Typ, mit dem sich keiner anlegen will, aber über den jeder mindestens eine lustige Geschichte kennt. Das war die Aura vom Sandman. Hat aber außerhalb der ECW nicht mal zu 20% funktioniert. Zumal der rauhbeinige Charme und der Einmarsch über zwei Dinge nicht hinwegtäuschen können: Der Sandman ist schon seit geraumer Zeit ein Wrack und im Grunde genommen war er nie mehr als ein umjubelter Backyard Wrestler."
[3.0] "Sandman is a horrible wrestler, the kind whose matches will give you the time to go and buy a drink at the local indie show. But let Paul Heyman work his magic and he became insanely beloved despite being the same horrible wrestler as before. The reaction Sandman got during his entrances was absolutely unbelievable, especially considering even ECW fans knew what a trainwreck of a match and/or abysmal promo was sure to follow. Proof of this is his pathetic WCW run as Hak: removed from Heyman's care he was instantly revealed for the garbage wrestler he was, but at least he got a good paycheck. A massive overachiever for certain."
[6.0] "Sandman ist ein ganz schwierig zu bewertender Wrestler. Was das Charisma angeht, eine absolute Bombe. Kaum jemand zog solche Reaktionen, riss die Leute so von ihren Stühlen. Seine Characterwork war wirklich ganz großes Kino und auch ein großer Teil der Identität von ECW, weswegen er auch so wichtig für diese Promotion war und sich 9 Punkte verdient im Bereich Charisma. Allerdings muss man auch sagen, dass die ECW die einzige Liga war, in die er reinpasste mit seinen schwachen Fähigkeiten im Ring. Man muss zugeben, dass er gute Materialschlachten auf die Beine stellen konnten und durchaus brawlen konnte aber in Anbetracht seiner teils stärkeren, technischen Mängel reicht das zu nicht mehr als 3 Punkten. Am Mic finde ich ihn sehr verschieden. Teils wirkte das doch ziemlich lust und lieblos, teilweise konnten die Promos aber auch intensiv und wirklich gut sein. Deswegen 6 Punkte in dem Bereich. Alles in Allem 6 Punkte für einen Mann, der ein Stück weit zur richtigen Zeit am richtigen Ort war."
[4.0] "Thought he was garbage, yer he had a great entrance and entrance theme but after the music stopped it was like watching a car crash. If he didn't have a weapon of some sort he had no idea what he was doing."
[4.0] "An icon of ECW. I was never a fan of this guy. Just a lousy wrestler that loved to be hardcore. No exciting moves. Hated his surfer gimmick he had. He smoked in the ring too."
[7.0] "Sandman is a hardcore legend and icon. Best known for his work in ECW, Sandman was incredibly over. His in ring ability was limited, mainly because he used to come out to the ring pissed, which has made tallent like Sabu say he was hard to work with (although Sabu says he likes their matches). Sandman is great at selling, unsurprisingly not a great storyteller, and he has one of the best enterences ever. His matches are always fun and he is always willing to take bumps."
[3.0] "The prime example of Heyman's booking making a guy a much bigger deal than he had any right to be. Not a good wrestler, out of shape, bad promo, this guy never should have made it big in any era but low and behold, give him a stick and some Metallica he becomes one of the most over guys in ECW. I'll give him some credit though, he somehow whipped himself into much better shape than he ever was before when WWE got him so he was smart enough to try and get his last grasp at the big time to work, but it was never going to."
[4.0] "Once you get past the entrance, which was all time great, Sandman was far from a good in-ring performer. He was great for the ECW style, but would have, and did, fail in every other company he worked for."

[2.0] "I recently watched the match where Sandman won the ECW title from Shane Douglas in 1995 (after which Douglas left for his disastrous WWF run). I was struck by how I can never think of a time when a guy looked worse in a match where he won a World Title. He just came across in the match as a fat, drunk, out of shape schmuck who, after the match, sat in the ring looking winded and smoked a cigarette. And this was in his prime. I love the original ECW, but Sandman has to have been the worst champion they had. He had an entrance and that was all he had going for him. If you ever needed evidence of what a genius Paul Heyman is when it comes to booking and creating characters, look no further than the fact that he was able to get Sandman over to a World Title level despite an utter lack of talent."
[2.0] "There's those who are hardcore who can at the same time bring something worth while to the table (see Terry Funk, Mick Foley, and hell even Sabu), and then there's the garbage can wrestlers who know only how to swing things and get gassed. Sandman is one of the most popular of the rag tag bunch of guys who'd never get a name if it weren't for the counter culture of ECW. This man smashed beer over his head, swung a kendo stick, and had no damn clue how to work a match. He had a great feud with Raven, but Raven was always a good story teller if nothing else. Sandman? I never cared for him. He always represented the worst aspect of ECW along with that maniac New Jack."
[6.0] "Sandman had one of the greatest entrances of all time, honestly go back and look some ECW clips of him coming through the crowd. He was entertaining, but like how a drunk is entertaining. He was good at connecting through the crowd through physical things, like cane shots and beer drinking. Not much of a talker. The feud he had with Raven over his son, is one of my favorites. Sandman was horrible in the ring but he was so over he didn't need to be any good. With that said, here's a classic ECW scenario: have a ring full of babyfaces being attacked, and send the Sandman out to make the save, and you've got the biggest pop of the night, guaranteed."

"the Sandman - James Fullington III. Ein Mann, der schon rockte, pöbelte, prügelte, Bier trank (und sogar im Ring rauchte), als ein gewisser Steve Austin - alias Steve Williams (bürgerlich Steve Anderson) sich noch "Stunning" nannte, Haare besaß, zusammen mit Brian Pillman als Hollywood Blondes aufgetreten ist oder sich in der WCW für Leute wie einen "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan hinlegen mußte. ^^ Lange habe ich gezögert, zu ihm etwas zu schreiben. Dabei ist es garnicht mal so schwer. Der Sandman war unbestritten eines immer, nämlich zu 100 % authentisch. Paul Heyman soll zu ihm gesagt haben "geh' da raus und sei einfach du selbst". Tja, und genau das hat er gemacht. Mit einer Einmarschmusik von Metallica, Singapor Cane und Dosen, die er sich am Kopf zerdrückte (sodaß er meißtens schon vor dem Kampf blutete) kreierte James Fullington eines der kultigsten Gimmicks überhaupt. Vor allem, weil es so genial einfach wie simpel ist. Denn es war immer er selbst. Vollkommen egal, das er auch im Ring nie besonders gut war, als Hardcore Wrestler oder zum brawlen reichte es allemal. Sandman hatte einige Erfolge, auch die Statur ist ziemlich gut. Leider aber waren seine Fähigkeiten recht limitiert. Trotzdem, ebenso wie bei manchen der anderen Wrestler gibt es Leute (bestes Beispiel - Ultimate Warrior), bei denen war jeder Auftritt, ihr Einmarsch besser als alles, was sie jemals im Ring gezeigt haben. Obwohl ich dem Sandman jetzt natürlich unrecht tun würde, denn er kann auch zwischen den Seilen schon einiges. Zumindest mehr als viele andere, die nur gut für Schoweffekte sind. Allerdings reichte es nie aus für den absoluten Push, denn die Luft war bei ihm meißtens ziemlich schnell raus. Egal, er ist und bleibt einfach ein absolut genialer Entertainer, den die Fans deswegen lieben, weil sie sich eingebunden fühlen, er sich gut verkaufen kann, man sich bei ihm bestens unterhalten fühlt, sich mit ihm identifizieren kann. Und schon alleine dafür etwas besonderes."
[8.0] "Sandman hätte es nirgendwo zur Ikone geschafft, wahrscheinlich nicht mal in die Midcard, zu schlecht war die Ringleistung, zu unbedeutend das Gimmick. Jedoch hatte man bei der ECW immer das nötige Verständniss für glaubwürdige Kultgimmicks. Und The Sandman war quasi der Stone Cold der ECW, noch bevor Steve Austin bier trinkend im Ring stand. Für die ECW hat er vieles getan und ist an ihrem Kultstatus mitverantwortlich. In der WCW und WWE hat es nicht funktioniert, muss es aber auch nicht, hat schließlich auch so den Ruf einer Hardcore Ikone."

He probably helped draw a lot of money for ECW, but apparently had difficulty collecting it. Supposedly, RVD alone was owed over $200k when ECW declared bankruptcy."
[6.0] "Ein absolutes Phänomen, wie der Sandman es je schaffen konnte. So dermaßen untalentiert im eigentlichen Pro-Wrestling, so hüftsteif wie er im Ring selbst in jungen Jahren agierte. Trotz allem waren seine Matches öfter mal sehenswert, da es bei seinen Kämpfen selten Regeln oder Limits gab, die ihm viel Freiheit gaben, sich mit und am Gegner auszutoben. Und natürlich Heyman, der ihm ein Gimmick auf den Leib schneiderte, welches als Blaupause für Stone Cold diente und die damit verbundene Rückeroberung des Weltmarktes für die damalige WWF bedeutete. Somit in zweifacher Hinsicht eine historische Figur, eine einzigartige Figur sogar, auch wenn vielleicht einer der technisch schlechtesten Wrestler, die es je zu etwas gebracht haben."
[7.0] "One of the wrestlers you immediately think of when you think of ECW, Sandman was best-known as a Singapore cane-wielding hardcore brawler, but could surprise with the occasional high-flying maneuver. While not a great wrestler in the traditional sense, Sandman knew how to make what he did entertaining and possessed a great understanding of how to tell a story through matches and angles, and his beer-swilling everyman character connected with the '90s ECW crowds. Certainly also benefited from bookers (namely, Heyman) who knew how to play to his strengths and make him look as good as possible. Every fan should experience his entrance live at least once."

Der Charakter Sandman bekommt aber immerhin einen Punkt für den Entrance und einen für seinen lächerlich hohen Status bei ECW-Fans. Die Punkte gebühren allerdings Metallica respektive Paul Heyman."
[8.0] "Kultiges Gimmick das jede ECW-Show extrem (Wortspiel? ) aufwertete. Seine Ringleistungen waren hm, ... doch es ist vor allem sein Einzug, sein ganzes Auftreten, dass man hier nicht nur erwähnen, sondern auch einmal erleben muss."
[1.0] "Don't let the rating fool ya: Sandman was right where he belonged in ECW, and even transitioned surprisingly well to the WWE's version of it. But it was basically a freak occurence that he worked so well both places, because he really, really didn't have a lot of actual talent. Super likable drunk'n'all, but not a gifted performer."
[8.0] "Despite being a perfect example of a pro-hardcore/anti-traditionalist wrestler that critics of ECW often referred to when they were making an argument that ECW made crap - The Sandman wouldn't have been in ECW's main event slot if he didn't know how to work. Now, his strengths were not based around having a background in amateur wrestling, or anything like that, in fact, fans were surprised when he decided to pull out headlock takeovers and arm drags. But his strengths were utilised very effectively in ECW. The Sandman's appeal in ECW, is that he was effectively "one of the people". He looked like a chain-smoking, alcoholic fan who liked to get into fights, and got paid to do it. But at the same time, Sandman was 1 of ECW's big risk-takers, which led to buckets of blood, evident concussions, and spots from high places, including a leg drop he performed from the ceiling. On top of all this, The Sandman also liked to pull out some lucha libre moves, include included the Rolling Rock Senton and the frankensteiner. His storytelling can also be very good, and it showed itself well in his feuds against Raven & Tommy Dreamer (Particularly Raven). Overall, not a complete wrestling package, but certainly a different one."
[7.0] "Sandman ist für mich natürlich vorrangig wegen seiner Singapore Cane ein tolles Gymmik. Seine sonstigen Fähigkeiten würde ich, wie bei vielen ECWlern, als Standart bezeichnen. Da er jedoch seinen Charakter so gut ausfüllt und dieses Image einfach lebt finde ich ihn sehr unterhaltsam."
[4.0] "Has decent charisma and some mic skills, but absolutely worthless outside of the hardcore environment. Not to mention his out of the rings habits."

Ich kann den Mann nicht objektiv beeurteilen weil ich ECW Fan bin und ich Liebe die ECW und auch der einmarsch zu enter Sandman der Mann ist eine Hardcore Legende und das sollte man richtig würdigen verdiente sieben Punkte."
[6.0] "Bewerte ich ihn als Wrestler? Wenn ja dann wirds ganz schlimm. Bewerte ich ihn als ECW-Legende? Da würds besser aussehen. Da muss ein Mix aus beidem her. Der Mann war im Ring ja eine totale Graupe, egal ob mit oder ohne Bier, ob der Tisch mal sellt oder nicht. Darüber braucht man garnicht diskutieren. Doch seinen Kultstatus den er sich eben deswegen wohl aufgebaut hat ist bei ihm allerdings nicht außer acht zu lassen. Dann werden es eben 6 Punkte, wobei auf den "Wrestler" nur max. 1 Punkt kommt."
[4.0] "Sich nach einem Song zu benennen, ist kreativ, wenn auch problematisch, wenn die Musik wechselt. Dann aber gibt es kaum etwas Dümmeres, als sich vor jedem Kampf die Stirn mit einer Bierdose blutig zu schlagen. Die Zigarrette im Mund und das Bier trinken, setzt dem Ganzen noch die Krone auf. Das ist auch meist das "Highlight" , denn danach kommt fast nur noch Gebrawle. Seinen Stolz hat er behalten, weil er ein langfristiges, aber viel zu niedriges Vertragsangebot der WWE ablehnte. Hat er auch echt nicht nötig. Schließlich ist er Unternehmer und besitzt mehrere Studienabschlüsse."
[2.0] "Also nur ein Bier trinken und mit nen Holzstock zuhaun sind keine qualitätsnachweise. Sicher ist der Sandman Kult aber betrachtet man es genau so besitzt er keinerlei Micskills und Wrestling beherscht er auch kaum. Das einzige was er kann ist sich zu betrinken."
[10.0] "Mein Absoluter Lieblingsstar der "hardcore szene" Einfach klasse Sandman in ECW oder TNA. Aber in ECW am besten gegen Cactus Jack legendär. (raucht im Match xD)"

[3.0] "Klar, eine Hardcore-Legende. Aber bis auf Gebrawle und coole Promos war beim Sandman nie viel los und für mich fehlte ihm auch die Ausstrahlung eines echten Topstars."
[10.0] "Extrem... Hardcore... Er ist das perfekte Beispiel für Extreme Championship Wrestling... Jetzt kommt er zu TNA. Ich will wieder altes Wrestling mit Pizzaschneidern und so^^"
[10.0] "Sandman war ein echt klasse Hardcore Wrestler. Sein Singapore Cane war legendär. Sein Einmarsch zeigte, dass er immer das Publikum gesucht hat und mitmachen lassen wollte. 10 Punkte für die Hardcore Legende!"
[8.0] "Verdammt guter Hardcore Fighter, der auch einige waghalsige Aktionen zeigte. Leider litt er oft unter Alkoholprobleme und hat den richtigen Zeitpunkt zum aufhören ausgelassen.... Trotzem 8 Punkte für eine ECW Legende, da er im Ring nun schon mehr drauf hat als hier einige sagen."
[6.0] "Wo die damalige WWF schon mit viel Pyro usw. gearbeitet hat, brauchte die ECW nur den Sandman, Metallica und die treuen Fans der echten ECW. Jeder Einzug durchs Publikum hat Gänsehaut verursacht und in mir den Wunsch geweckt, das einmal mitmachen zu dürfen."
[8.0] "Sandman ist ein Psycho und das gefällt mir richtig gut. Er machte das aus für was die ECW stand. Fr das extreme. Die besoffenen Kämpfe von Sandman passen gut in den Kult des Extremen und machen Sandman zur Kultfigur der ECW."
[6.0] "Unterhaltsam war er zwar immer, doch seine Fähigkeiten im Ring waren schon immer stark begrenzt und er hat nur in Hardcore Matches wirklich unterhalten. Wrestlerich wären seine Leistungen schon fast nichtmal mehr mit ausreichend zu bewerten, doch der Unterhaltungswert zählt ja auch noch dazu."
[10.0] "Er bekommt die zehn Punkte nicht weil er ein guter Wrestler ist sondern weil er mich vom Entrance (ONS 2005) bis zum Schlussgong einfach nur unterhält und außerdem: ECW ECW ECW ECW ECW!"
[5.0] "Die Popularität des Sandmans konnte sich mir immer nur halb erschliessen. Sein Charakter war naturlich eines der grossen Meisterwerke von Paul Heyman und seine Fehde gegen Raven bei ECW war top. Im Ring war er aber deutlich limitiert und ein Mic sollte er auch besser nicht in die Hand nehmen."
[10.0] "Wie mann jemand der nicht wirklich durch sein Talent glänzte 10 punkte geben kann.. nun ich habe den Sandmann diesen Psycho einfach geliebt.. kippe rauchend, bier trinkend , dosen am kopf zerschlagen durchs publikum kommend und einfach es krachen lassen.. gehörte zur echten ECW und deswegen hatte er in der WWE auch nie eine chance und wollte sie glaub ich auch nicht so recht ;-)"
[6.0] "Kein Wrestler in meinen Augen, aber es unterhält die Fans und die Fans lieben ihn für sein Hardcore, welches ihn so bekannt und zu einer ECW Legende gemacht hat."
[4.0] "Ist weit davon entfernt , als pro Wrestler durchzugehen. Aber konnte in Hardcorematches immer überzeugen-brachte auch den Gegner gut over. Vor allem war der typ einfach Kult-egal wo und wann der auftrat-ich hab mich imer köstlich amüsiert. Das schöne war ja-er hat immer so deplaziert im Wrestling gewirkt, dass es schon wieder witzig war."
[6.0] "Ein starkes Gimmick das zur richtigen Zeit, am richtigen Ort eingesetzt wurde. Ohne das Gimmick bleibt leider nicht viel und außerhalb von Hardcorematches ist der Sandman einfach nicht zu gebrauchen."
[10.0] "Es ist ja nicht so, dass es kein sehenswertes Sandman Match geben würde. Er lebt aber halt vor allem von seinem Gimmick, der Entrance, dem Bier, den direkten Promos (die mir übrigens eigentlich immer gefallen haben) und seine sympathischen, authentischen Art. Dass das Funktionieren dieser Mischung zu einem nicht unerheblichen Teil Paul Heyman zuzuschreiben ist, ist sicherlich richtig. Nichtsdestotrotz ist es aber ja immer noch der Sandman selbst, der mich bei jedem Auftritt bestens unterhält - egal in welcher Form."
[5.0] "Er ist ohne Zweifel eine Legende, aber das reicht mir nicht aus. In Ring Leistungen sind im Vergleich zum Great Khali beeindruckend, für mehr reichts dann aber auch nicht. Sein Gimmick hatte schon was Gutes, dass sicherlich auch ein Grundstein für spätere Charaktere lieferte. Aber nur in der ECW ganz weit vorne, denn überall wo er sonst war, war er nur eine Witzfigur. So viele verkorkste Moves wie bei ihm sieht man wirklich nur selten. Kann ja auf gute Erfolge auch unter Heyman zurückblicken, trotzdem er den größten Teil seiner Matches verlor."
[6.0] "Schlecht im Ring und trotzdem einer der beliebtesten Wrestler. Wie das geht? Der Sandman hat zur richtigen Zeit das richtige Gimmick in der richtigen Promotion gehabt. Wer weiß, ob er sich ohne Paul Heyman immer noch als surfender Sunnyboy durch die Ringe dieser Welt wrestlen würde?"
[9.0] "Was soll man groß zum Sandman sagen. Absolute ECW Legende, wrestlerisches Können hin oder her. Entrance, Bier, Cane... hervorragend. Über Hardcore Hak schweige ich absichtlich ;)"
[10.0] "Kultfigur und ECW- und Hardcorelegende! Von den Fähigkeiten im Ring klar beschränkt, aber das Gimmick und sein Auftreten sind so authentisch wie bei fast keinen anderen. Exit Light! Enter Night! 10 points for The Hardcore Icon."
[6.0] "Ich mag ihn. Schlimm ist es ja, das er zu Raw gedraftet wurde um nur in HEAT aufzutreten. Oder die Fehde mit Carlito. So konnte ja nix aus ihn werden in der WWE. Warum dieses Bier trinken viele so schlimm finden. Steve Austin hat es doch von Sandman und bei Steve findet es kaum einer schlimm."
[6.0] "Kultcharakter, bei dem man aber mittlerweile eigentlich froh sein kann, wenn man noch so Matches wie gegen Drake bei IWA MS zu sehen bekommt, und er nicht im Ringt einschläft. Wobei er außerhalb von Brawling und Hardcore auch nie besser war."
[6.0] "Da es hier ums Wrestling geht sage ich mal, dass er wrestlerisch fast nix draufhat (obwohl ich mal eine DVD von ihm gesehen habe wo er Leuten versucht Wrestling beizubringen) Mit fast nix meine ich aber auch nur "fast". Er ist ein durchschnittlicher Brawler, ein guter Hardcore Wrestler und seine Rolling Rock ist trotzdem immer sehenswert. Aber vor allem das , was er mit den Fans macht also wie er sie mit einbezieht und eine ungeahnte Stimmung in die Halle bringt rechne ich ihm hoch an. Daher befriedigend von mir."
[8.0] "Ganz klar, im Ring niemals einer der Großen, vermutlich nichtmal Mittelfeld. Aber zeigt mir nochmal so bald einen, bei dem die GESAMTE Halle das Entrance Theme mitgröhlt und so ne Stimmung verursacht. Tja, die WWE bewies es ja wieder, wie sie ehemaligen ECWlern den Todestoß gibt. Sandman ist Kult, 8 Punkte. Say your prayers, little one..."
[5.0] "Paul Heyman sollte 75 % aller Punkte, die der Sandman bekommt, überwiesen bekommen, denn der Sandman ist das beste Beispiel dafür, wie er zu seiner besten Zeit aus wenig viel gemacht hat. Aus einer wrestlerischen und rhetorischen Vollgurke, die in erster Linie bös gucken kann, machte er durch die richtige Gimmick-Entwicklung und brillante Präsentation eine Kultfigur, der aber für mich doch deutlich zu viel Ehre zuteil wird."
[9.0] "Im Ring ist er zwar ne 0, aber er bekommt 5 Punkte für seinen (orginal) Entrance, 2 für seinen Kultstatus und 2 für einige ziemlich verrückte Matches in der alten ECW. Das macht zusammen 9, ich find den Kerl einfach genial."
[4.0] "Ich konnte mit ihm nie viel anfangen und war ehrlichgesagt auch erfreut, als die WWE uns endlich von ihm erlöst hat. Jedoch hat er damals in der ECW viele gute Matches geliefert, und gilt nicht umsonst als Hardcore Legende. Dennoch gab es weitaus bessere (meiner Meinung nach) und betrachtet man ausschließlich seine heutigen Skills, hätte er nicht einmal einen Punkt verdient gehabt."
[2.0] "Vor 10 Jahren hat's noch alles ausgereicht, heute nicht mehr. Keine Skills, immer dieselben Hardcore Aktionen, Bierdusche und alles kennt man inzwischen auswendig. So sympathisch er sein mag - für die heutige Wrestlingwelt nichts mehr."
[2.0] "Für mich absolut schlecht, denn: Er hat überhaupt kein Charisma und seine In - Ring Skills gefallen mir auch nicht. Zu seinen früheren Ringleistungen kann ich leider nichts sagen."
[6.0] "Eine ECW Legande gar keine Frage ... ich möchte den Sandman aber hier nicht überbewerten, denn mal ganz ehrlich gesagt: "der beste Wrestler ist er ja nicht gerade" ... aber irgendwie doch Kult!"
[8.0] "Lebt allein von seinem Gimmick das mich total in seinen Bann gezogen hat, da er dieses wirklich glaubhaft rüberbringt. Man würde gar nicht meinen, dass dieser Mann sogar studiert hat. Wrestlerisch natürlich eher bescheiden, aber ein absoluter Publikumsmagnet und ein Star zum anfassen."
[0.0] "Ich fasse es echt kurz: Eine Pfeife. Im Ring null drauf. Reicht für mich nicht aus sich ein Bier zu zischen und im Ring keine Leistung zu bringen. Für mich ist der total überflüssig."
[10.0] "Vince hat ihn zwar leider kastriert, kein entrance, kein bier mehr und keine Zigaretten (bei den letzten Raw-Matches). Wie auch die meisten anderen ECW Wrestler (Dreamer, Balls, Raven, Rhyno, Sabu, .. ) wird er von der WWE nur noch als besserer Jobber eingesetz. Mir stellt sich da die Frage wieso diese überhaupt in der WWE wrestlen. Bekommt von mir dennoch die volle Punktzahl für die ECW-Matches und seinen Kultfaktor."
[10.0] "Der menschliche Bender.. ! Hat einen genialen Entrance, eine supercoole Ausstrahlung.. ist ein Brawler wie er im Buche steht.. trinkt Bier sogar noch cooler als Stone Cold.. eine Satte 1!"
[2.0] "Micworktechnisch und Wrestlerisch ist er schlicht und einfach schlecht. Das einzige Positive ist , dass er eine Persönlichkeit besitzt und auch eine recht große Fanbase hat."
[10.0] "Mit Cactus Jack die Hardcore Legende überhaupt. Lebt sein Gimmick und die Fans lieben ihn. Seine Mini-Fehde mit Carlito bei RAW gefällt mir, auch wenn sie kaum auffällt. Trotzdem denke ich wäre er wieder bei der TNA (die ja *ironie-modus-an* ab und zu mal ein gimmick match ansetzt *ironie modus aus*) besser aufgehoben."
[4.0] "Ein schwieriger Spagat. Im Ring kann er eigentlich nichts, dennoch schafft er es die Fans in seinen Bann zu ziehen. Er ist halt keiner dieser profillosen Jedermänner im Business und das reicht eigentlich aus."
[4.0] "Hardcore-Legende, in den letzten Monaten aber arg blass... was natürlich auch am Booking liegt... befürchte, wir sehen ihn nicht mehr lange, wenn er bei RAW verjobbt werden soll..."
[10.0] "Die absolute ECW Legende, aber trotzdem nicht die unangefochtene Hardcore Legende. Das ist und bleibt auf alle Zeiten Cactus Jack! Dennoch repräsentiert er Hardcore und Wrestling fast wie kein zweiter! Knallharter Typ, sensationelles Gimmick: don`t mess with the Sandman!"
[6.0] "Er ist eine ECW-Kult Figur. Wenn man ihn gut einsetzt kann er ein schönes (Hardcore, Barbed-Wire etc. ) Match bestreiten. Allerdings von den Fähigkeiten im Ring sehr beschränkt."
[10.0] "Vielleicht das beste Beispiel dafür, wie man mit dem richtigen Gimmick extrem over sein kann, ohne über große wrestlerische Fähigkeiten zu verfügen oder etwa als unbesiegbar zu gelten. Der Sandman ist der einzige Wrestler den ich kenne, bei dem es wirklich keine Rolle spielt, ob er seine Matches gewinnt oder nicht. Alles was zählt, ist dass die Fans eine große Party mit ihm feiern können, Bier trinken, "Enter Sandman" mitgröhlen und einfach gut drauf sind, wähend der alte Säufer im Ring loslegt."
[8.0] "Eine ECW Legende, die das Hardcore Wrestling geprägt hat! Klar ist er kein herrausragender Wrestler, aber sein Gimmick, sein Entrance, sein Stil, seine Ausstrahlung, seine Fehden, all das zusammen machen den Sandman so genial!
In der WWE ist er jedoch genauso falsch wie damals in der WCW. Er darf nur Bier trinken und mit dem Cane schlagen, doch er wird schlecht eingesetzt, bekommt keine Fehden und kann sein Gimmick nicht so entfalten wie damals in der ECW!"
[2.0] "Man entschuldige meine Bewertung, aber nur Bier trinken und den Gegner mit einem Cane schlagen, das ist es nicht wirklich. Ich finde er kommt unsympathisch rüber, hat keine Micskills und wenn er gut drauf ist, hüpft er mal vom Seil. Nein - mangelhaft."
[6.0] "Früher hatte er den Gänsehaut-Einzug schlechthin und man konnte sich seine Matches einigermassen ansehen. Seine damalige Fehde gegen Raven war etwas ganz feines. Heute ist er leider nur mehr ein Edeljobber..."
