Less than a year after his debut, Patterson headed west to work for promoter Al Tomko in Vancouver. He also worked for Stampede Wrestling in 1985 and spent a year travelling for Stu Hartīs circuit. Later on Patterson also toured the United States (mainly the Mid-West), South Africa and Mexico. Patterson got his big break in 1993, while on tour in Japan he was cast as the second Leatherface. Mike Kirchner, who protrayed the first Leatherface was charged with assault and sentenced to prison, after a fight in a night club. As Leatherface, Rick Patterson appeared in some brutal matches.
