What's currently holding him back is the Death Riders, which he has kind of become the punching bag for, and with Garcia in the picture, his current character is stagnating. His earlier BCC time's were incredibly more interesting to watch, especially the storyline breakup with Orange Cassidy. This man can Excell as a singles star, he just needs to either break away from Jon Moxley's side should the Death Riders split, or leave all together to go it alone."

[8.0] "Yuta came into AEW as a very solid technical wrestler, who really needed to work on his character. That didn't really happen until 2024 when he turned on Bryan Danielson as Blackpool Combat Club morphed into the Death Riders. Since then, Yuta has continued to improve his in-ring skills and gets nuclear heat in every single area he steps into. Sky could be the limit for Yuta at this point, as he's not even 30 yet."

In any case, Yuta is still super fun up-&-comer with an original style, & I hope for a day that they give him a strong singles push in ROH."

Whenever I've seen him in the Blackpool Combat Club or Death Riders, he just seems kind of there. Everybody else looks the part, but this guy just looks like a fan who works a 9-5. Do not understand the appeal, and I highly doubt he'll become a big name in professional wrestling. Permanent midcarder."
Billaowski wrote on 04.09.2025:
[2.0] "Wasn't good in RoH and hasn't been good in AEW, Feels woefully out of place in any segment he's in because he looks like he's been plucked from the crowd or one of the Death Riders brought their son to work. His mic skills are non existent and it's not like he is some maverick inside the ropes either of which AEW has an embarrassment of riches. He's in a cadre of people like Garcia et al where I just cannot for the life of me see what the movers and shakers at AEW seem to see and he's fortunate to have gotten what he has done."

[3.0] "He's a decent wrestler but his attempts to look and act tough are hilarious and ridiculous. He can't cut a promo and he's about as threatening as a box of kittens and has the physique of one too. I'm sure he's a nice guy outside of wrestling but he's grossly out of place in the last two factions he's been part of. He works best as a slimy manager type who interferes. Wrestling requires suspension of disbelief and there's times I can't do it. Yuta trying to be big, tough, and scary doesn't work. I suppose that could be intentional for heel heat and if so, good on him for working me."

Because there is something missing that keeps the glass ceiling above him and his weird hentai protagonist hair isn't the slight reboot he needed..."

He's young so there's always room for improvement but, I just can't take him seriously as a wrestler. The Death Riders stuff has been no help as he has gotten literal go away hit with his constant interferences in Main Event matches. You already have a Green, Young technician with Garcia who is better than him. Wheeler sucks, that's all I can say dor now"
KyleEnjoysWrestling wrote on 12.05.2025:
[5.0] "I almost feel bad for Wheeler. No, he's certainly not my favorite, but he's someone who was pushed down our throats to an annoying degree, which resulted in fans turning against him. It didn't feel like he gained his spot naturally. But he was someone who Tony liked, so he saw a push before fans wanted to naturally give it to him. I'm not sure what it will take for him to win fans over at this point. I can't give him anything above a middle-of-the-road grade, as I do find him mostly annoying when I see him show up. But I also don't want to rate him lower, as he's not bad in the ring & might be able to make something of himself if he finds his own voice someday."

[9.0] "Wheeler Yuta is a decent technical wrestler and a solid hand for a heel stable. He's very fluid and safe to work with, and he has a good bit of agility and a versatile movepool. I don't understand why people feel he's boring other than his promos not being incredibly strong, but in Death Riders he doesn't have to be a great talker on his own. He has heel psychology down well and he's constantly ruining matches via interference, making him a heat magnet. The crowd loves to boo him when he enters the ring. I personally like his look but agree that he could have a better physique. He's just barely more intimidating looking than Spike Dudley."

[4.0] "As a wrestler he clearly has technical ability and I appreciate that, but I don't believe him on the mic. AEW has been putting him into more and more prominent positions and it's duller each week. I'm not a fan of the way he's been used and his character lost the potential he had when he turned on Bryan despite seemingly being so distraught by the rest of the BCC. I was excited for what could happen if he developed any complexity and then he immediately morphed into another generic heel. It's tiresome to see him in the position he has."

BUT i am not asking for him to be booked like a megastar infact the role he has right now in AEW is way too high up on the card for someone who has no personality or character like YUTA, I think the angle with him and Bryan could of been good because he looked so genuinely hurt by the betrayal of bryan by the BCC but instead he is just generic heel #9. keep him on ROH and stop tryna make him a terrifying heel."

Already incredible with a very unique style before AEW, he first served as a jobber while finding the right story to launch him. The BCC was this good story, it was perfect to have a young wrestler alongside a legend of the discipline to raise him, giving more than that has always served the narrative and he has always played wonderfully the young wrestler who learns from the other 3 ultra rough guys. He is very good, he is credible, he is promised much more, he has obtained charisma, he is excellent."

He is a perfectly fine wrestler but that doesn't do much in a stocked roster. He is just a charisma black hole. I suspect he will be knocking about ROH within 2 months of the BCC breaking up."

A very capable technician and ring performer, but I honestly could not tell you much about his character besides that he's an underdog with a chip on his shoulder. It might have to do with his very much-to-be-desired promo ability, but I've been imagining the possibilities involved with a serious singles run away from the BCC, but that'd be a sure test of his ceiling, at least in AEW."

He's not even in his prime yet and he wouldn't be in the BCC if they didn't think he has a lot of potential and if he's not a hard worker. The opinions of Claudio, Mox, Bryan, and Regal mean a lot more than random fans who have never stepped foot in a ring. And he's also not problematic, unlike a lot of young guys these fans want to see pushed."

He's very young and has had many great matches in his short career so far! The only reason I'm not rating him higher is because he needs to work on his promos. Other than that, he's bound to be a major player in the future."

He's decent in the ring but the crowd has cooled on him significantly since Tony Khan forced him into becoming a "star" when he bled buckets against Moxley on Rampage. There is no "star" here. He has no potential as a main eventer long-term. Good upper-mid-card guy but that's his ceiling. Fits the standard archetype of "good wrestler with no character" perfectly."

I've only seen a handful of his matches from Beyond but he was really good, especially his tag matches alongside Tracy Williams."

[4.0] "Yuta is probably the worst of these new breed of "serious technical wrestlers" who try way too hard to be tough dudes showing that technical wrestling is a BRUTAL, SERIOUS STYLE and emulate heavier-set puro guys while having lean bodies that don't give them enough weight or movement to have the convincing offense that is needed for a more hard hitting style. Instead of setting himself apart from the others by leaning into the training he got from the Wrestle Factory and opting for a more calculated, manipulative World of Sport/catch style, he follows the same trend right now as his peers and fall short: Gresham can cut better promos and has a more muscular, sturdy frame, Moriarty has more charisma, and Garcia has a better look. At this point, he really doesn't have the presence to be intimidating with his appearance nor his voice, and AEW hasn't done much to remedy this besides giving him some forced drama through bleeding and yelling a lot during a handful of big matches. The most I've felt towards anything in-ring that Yuta has done is when Oleg the Usurper killed him in CHIKARA when he was Sylverhawk."

He's completely flat beyond a good match or two with talent that can drag it out of him. He's someone who really struggles to stand out in a crowd full of guys who wrestle far better (the BOTSJ had him have decent to solid matches but he was nowhere near one of the top or even popular outings there) despite being a reasonable hand himself. Sometimes he's technical, sometimes he's high-flying....idk it feels like there's no sense of identity for him yet, he hasn't developed a definitive style and I'm not really buying him being the fourth wheel of BCC, a group which really didn't need more members than the core group itself. He's not a bad wrestler, but his limitations are obvious and I don't see him becoming this big star that we are supposed to take note of. Being merely competent in all fields isn't going to cut it anymore in the big leagues: that much is known."

However, his in ring performances always seem to be better than the sum of his parts. So it intrigues me to see what he becomes working with William Regal, Bryan Danielson and John Moxley. We know they are going to toughen him up ... that is a given. But can they help him develop the in ring and on mic charisma that turned themselves into stars? I don't know. If they can, however, and they are able to find him a couple submissions and a finishing move you want to see HIM perform, then I could certainly see him become a star rather than a jobber."
