Some people use that as an insult but I personally see it as a compliment. It's a different style of wrestling and people don't seem to understand that. But it's insanely fun and he's had incredible matches in NJPW and AEW."

Purely from an athletic standpoint he's unquestionably on top of the world right now and will likely remain there as long as he continues to dominate the highlight reels when he returns from injury. His character work is well-defined but his ability on the mic is several leagues below his in-ring skills. He's still great and will go down as one of the most outstanding athletes to ever do it but if he's going to carve into Rushmore he really needs to bring the talking up to the same level as the moving."

He has potential to be the goat of wrestling, his moveset is so amazing to watch and his matches will captivate someone. His in ring skill is up there with prime Kenny omega, and I hope Ospreay wins the AEW world championship when he gets back from injury."

Not to sound cliche but the dude is literally the complete package, he can sell, he can deliver otherworldly offense, he can cut a promo, and above all else he can tell a story in the ring. His finishing moves are brutal and look amazing. This guy can carry a promotion, and in due time he will run AEW. Every Ospreay match is a gift to the art of wrestling."

He's clearly an absolute star. 10/10 entrance, really good look, is top-tier in the ring, and can cut quite a decent promo. He's better when he's using less slang, but even that gives him a bit of character. I think he has a tendency to go a bit overboard with finishers in his matches, but very few wrestlers can blow me away like he does."

[0.0] "When I got into NJPW in 2021, I remember that many people online heavily praised Ospreay and Shingo Takagi's matches. After watching one of those matches, what really stood out to me was how unconvincing Shingo Takagi's selling of the back was. Ospreay performs several jumps onto Shingo's back, breaking tables, but Shingo just lightly holds his back, even though in reality, his back should have been shattered in half after that series of moves. In most of Ospreay's matches, he comes across as clumsy and foolish. The first match I saw of Ospreay was his bout with his girlfriend Bea Preastley. And I absolutely hate that match; it was unpleasant to watch. Ospreay himself is crude and vulgar in his promos. For example, the incident where he insulted Triple H's wife. He also lacks charisma. His flips are not aesthetic and are eye-gougingly awkward. The matches are unwatchable and look cheap. The acting is bad. Even his match with Bryan is completely filler. The "Best versus Best" tagline is false. Bryan in AEW has lost more than he's won, and what about Ospreay...? What exactly makes him the best? I love spectacular fights--I don't nitpick about selling, and I'm not a prude. But this is outright degradation of wrestling. Without Ospreay's matches, wrestling wouldn't be worse. Wrestling is driven not just by matches, but by emotions. You can't build your show to Olympic proportions with just dry wrestling. The only matches worth watching with Ospreay are when he's the one losing. Of the matches I've seen, the triple threat against Ricochet and Takeshita stand out. I'm not a fan of any of those wrestlers, but the idea that there could be a heel who beats Ospreay--that's good. However, Kyle Fletcher turned out to be even worse than Ospreay. And in their match at Full Gear 2024, where the goal was to evoke sympathy for Ospreay and it was pretty successful, Ospreay just completely resets the work he's done in the ring. He was hit with two brutal moves to his head and neck, and then he just bounces back like a ball! WTF? ! For me, AEW became unwatchable when they signed Ospreay and started burying talented wrestlers like Orange Cassidy. If Ospreay becomes AEW World Champion, I will stop watching this promotion."

[10.0] "Will could have easily stayed a one-dimensional high flyer who just opened the show with some exciting moves like Jack Evans or Matt Sydal, but he went to Japan for a few years and worked harder than anyone else across multiple countries. He was unlucky with the timing of his IWGP World Heavyweight championship reign, but before long he didn't need the title- he was doing moves that no-one else could do and was putting on the best matches every night. His matches with Kenny knighted him as the heir to the throne, and somehow he keeps hitting new heights. I hope he can stay injury-free after he heals from this surgery, he is one of the most exciting wrestlers ever and he pulls off the craziest spots so casually. It's unfortunate the stars didn't align for an AJ Styles match, but his resume is already crazy enough. He's grown into a lovely bloke who helps so many people in the business, especially when he's producing EVE shows. Billy Goat is the present and the future."

It's the same reason Donald Trump used pet names for political opponents, he couldn't think of anything important to say. Ospreay is one of the best current talents and one of the best of his generation. His athleticism is incredible and his rise to main event status was organic and gradual. The exact type of unselfish guy you want on your team."

Will Ospreay has a solid look, he lacks height to be believably even against guys who are six foot and above. His promos are good, but would be better if he stopped "bruv"-ing a ton. His in-ring work has improved considerably. He still wanders occasionally, forgetting to sell or visibly waiting to set up the next spot, but he has improved. His injuries are concerning, so I'd say it's best to start trying to be less spotty and more organic. Ospreay has a future as a great upper mid card guy."

Starting as a high flying sensation, he quickly developed into a complete performer capable of mixing fast paced athleticism with hard hitting strikes and deep storytelling. His ability to consistently deliver match of the year caliber performances in promotions like New Japan, RevPro, and AEW has made him a global star. Ospreay has proven he can thrive in any environment whether it is a junior heavyweight showcase or a marquee main event. His evolution from flashy aerial specialist to well rounded main event wrestler reflects his dedication to improving every facet of his craft. At a relatively young age he has already built a resume that rivals legends, and with his prime years ahead of him, his legacy is on track to become one of the greatest in wrestling history"

I watched his matches with MJF, Bryan Danielson, Kenny Omega, Orange Cassidy, and Chris Jericho. The first four honestly didn't impress me with Ospreay much and made me think more "wow, they really know how to carry Will". The Chris match was just super sad to watch. I don't know if it was just cause Ospreay was a bad fit for Chris or if it was Chris being too slow these days, but that was an atrocious watch and sorta honestly made me think that he just might not be my thing. Even though there is a good chance I'll still be watching matches involving him, I think my thoughts on him are cemented at the moment. I think the Cassidy and Bryan matches were good, but mostly cause of Orange and Bryan knowing how to carry a match. I think for me, Ospreay feels like he is doing too much. While I don't think he is this no selling, flippy guy people make him out to be, I think he is just lacking in storytelling a lot of the time and it feels like there is no rhyme or reason to his matches at times. Also I do think he overuses the no selling trope, but it's not like he does it all of the time. Just maybe more than he should. Maybe I will change my mind in the future, but for me I just think he's not my thing."

There's nobody in the world right now who gives me the shivers like him, he's there at every big event and he gets the best out of his opponent. Let's enjoy what we're experiencing with Ospreay because after him, it'll be hard to find another one. Thanks for restoring the feeling Will!"

[8.0] "As of the day I'm writing this, Will Ospreay is easily the best wrestler in the world. Not only has he earned his title of Mr. 5 Stars, but he's easily the most reliable athlete for big matches. His extremely high-flying style was very cool, but his transition to one that relies more on technicality has caused his wrestling to be incredibly fitting for any of the great athletes he faced somehow. He is incredibly fluid and brutal when he needs to and his performances are always incredible to witness, and he proved it time and time again against some of the best wrestlers of his generation (Kenny Omega, Shingo Takagi, Bryan Danielson, Okada...). EDIT (10 -> 8): 2 or so years after my initial review, the effect of Ospreay's wrestling is starting to wear off on me. I think that he relies way too much on moves, moves and moves, which hinders any chance for interesting in-ring psychology. I still think his moves are good and his athleticism is pretty top tier, and he's also willing to take a lot of stupid bumps. But I'm afraid that in a few years, his wrestling won't be doing much for me."

He dresses like a teenager wearing ing tight tracksuit bottoms, football shirts and a cap this isn't how stars dress he looks like a man going through a mid life crisis wanting to be young again. His matches tend to drag just so he and his opponent can cram in a ton of big spots and finishers, which waters down their impact. A lot of his most hyped matches are filled with sequences that feel more rehearsed than organic, which hurts the match, his opponent, and his own aura. On the mic, Ospreay was rough early in his Japan run, but he's gotten better and is at least decent now, showing signs he's still improving. If he tightened his matches and saved his best stuff for the biggest stages, he'd be a surefire legend. Great talent, but I wish he wrestled smarter."

By this point in his career I believe Ospreay is worthy of praise from everyone. He has only improved and improved since his junior days and put on matches worthy of being up there with the greatest matches ever. From his unbelievable athleticism to his speed and abilities to put on incredible sequences to his underrated determination to putting on the best matches he can with the insane bumps he decides to take and put his body through for our entertainment. To me Ospreay is at the point in his career where he has so many great matches that are different from each other even the people that used to and still hate him can still find an amazing match and one that they can enjoy (unless they are a super elitist). Ever since coming to AEW I believe he's been on an even higher level, I mean the dudes first match after signing was against Takeshita and it was insanely good, which is still one of my favorite AEW matches ever, and it was only a sign to come. From the indies to new Japan Junior then to a heavyweight to now becoming the future face of AEW he has constantly proven himself as someone companies can rely on in any facet whether it be to put someone over, open a ppv, put on a great tag match or hold the world title he can do it. Ospreay has already cemented himself as a once in a lifetime type of wrestler and he's only going to continue to get better and put on more outstanding matches, or as my friend Wubbie would say "he's the goat bruv"."

If I could go into the decimals, Will would be around a 9.5 or so, as my own real 'issue' with him is that whilst his match quality is out of this world good, I never quite feel engaged in the story of the match, though the recent Hangman/Ospreay encounter was a great counter to that point. Would not at all be surprised if he reaches a '10' for me in the near future."

I didn't always love Ospreay, but his recent AEW work has really turned me into a big fan, especially his matches with Kenny Omega, Adam Page, and Swerve Strickland. He's good on the mic, has a great presentation, and delivers intense in-ring performances. The Hidden Blade is a really sick move. I'm not sure why people are so critical of his promos, but I think that is part of a cultural divide between the US and UK. To me, his promos feel raw and honest, which is very different to how wrestling has been presented on TV in America over the last few decades. Each to their own, but I do prefer the Ospreay style, and I wish we could see more of that realistic way of speaking instead of the overly dramatic and scripted style I see from others in AEW and elsewhere."

But despite all the hate, despite all the criticism he's received, I'll still give it to Ospreay, hands down, he's one of the greatest generational talents of the modern era who is still active and thriving in the current wrestling industry. He has plenty of detractors who dislike his style and in-ring work. People constantly debate whether he deserves the high praise he gets, but in my opinion, he absolutely does. Ospreay has proven himself since his junior heavyweight days, earning immense respect. When he transitioned into the heavyweight class and began facing even bigger, more prominent stars from top companies around the world, his standards only rose that setting a higher bar for everyone else. He has the star power to captivate fans and sell out arenas. He has the in-ring talent to produce phenomenal matches, even if some of his spots are exaggerated or unorthodox, which adds to his in-ring controversy. Additionally, his mic skills have improved significantly, allowing him to tell compelling stories and build believable chemistry in storylines. He's particularly strong at channeling his emotions to add dramatic layers when necessary. Ospreay is genuinely talented across many areas when you look deeper. He can deliver great matches weekly, and ever since signing with AEW, he's been on an impressive workhorse run by putting on top-tier performances every single week. Not to mention, he's one of the few who can have a great match with almost anyone, even with the oldest active wrestler on the roster."

His floor in a 1v1 match is a 7/10 every time you see him on the card for a show you know you are in for a match of the night performance and on PPV a match of the year contender. He got over with the AEW crowd in what felt like 2 minutes and has not looked back since. Amazing to see a regular British lad who worked as a Mastic man go from the British Indy scene, then go to Japan and the States and show everyone why he is the best in the world he has also inspired so many people to start wrestling his style and he changed the industry with his matches with Ricochet. He put it best in his promo with MJF in Cardiff before ALL IN last year " Go to America, go to Europe, go to Australia and New Zealand, go to Japan ask them who the best wrestler in the world is and they will all say the name Will Ospreay. Because not only does his stuff look the best out of everyone, he's managed to get organically over in a US promotion with a TV Deal which is not something a lot of people can say. Ospreay has also picked up some notes on psychology and while he's got work to do on it, his clearly improving, His excellent match with Hangman Page kind of proves that. But Ospreay does have his flaws. First of all, he can do a lot of moves. And he does do them. Every Single Match. That's the biggest problem. It makes his matches feel the same .If he keeps some of the big moves away until big moments and matches, they'll have more effect. Second of all, I might be in a minority but I can't stand Will Ospreay's promos. Overall looking at it, if you're looking for athletic guys that are guaranteed to deliver every match and look great, Ospreay is definitely the man. He's not perfect, but he's great"

This man is up there with the likes Bryan Danielson and Kenny Omega when it comes to classic matches, and he is ONLY 32. How crazy is that. With probably at the least 10 more years of wrestling to go Will will without a doubt go down as one of the greatest (if not the greatest) wrestlers ever. Since joining AEW we have been witnessing a generational run, 3+ years in and still going as strong as ever. I dont see it stopping anytime soon. He has most probably the most exciting move set in Wrestling, add upon that he has talentI being able to easily pull of things I only thought is possible in my wildest dreams, he has the fanbase, he gets the crowd reactions, he has the respect, etc. Will Ospreay is undeniable, I have no other words. I think when the time finally comes, Will might just go out as the best ever. [8.0] "As a lifelong WWE guy, I hear all the crap talk people say about Ospreay, "he's just cosplaying as an anime character" "all he does is flips", but man I can't help but think of the likes of AJ Styles and Shawn Michaels when I watch Will go out there. I don't know if it's charisma thing with Will, I know it's certianly not a promo thing, but man am I just drawn in by his character and his matches. He's honestly the guy that's even gotten to consider watching AEW at all. LOVED that recent match with Hangman at All In, has spectacular chemistry with Takeshita and Fletcher, the Daniel Bryan/Bryan Danielson match was also super top notch too. If I were AEW, I'd ditch any long-term plans with not Jeff Hardy aka Darby Allin and build your promotion around Ospreay instead."

[5.0] "I find Will Ospreay to be a completely polarizing wrestler to me. I know he can be good, I know he is over with a lot of people. I just do not connect with him in ring or on the mic a majority of the time. Beyond whatever outside the ring and irl personality issues rub me wrong with the man, his ring work drivers me nuts sometimes. There are people that are able to wrangle Ospreay's ideals and the way he wants to layout a match and condense it and mold it into something else, like the Osrpeay vs Omega Wrestle Kingdom match. Then there are some that are purely from the mind of Ospreay that he just loses me during them. He constantly wants to wow the crowd and get that big pop off of big spots or counter wrestling and nearfalls to the point he over uses them and does not protect his own big moves like the stormbreaker or hiddenblade that he tries to adopt other big moves which then he tends to do the same with them as well. I have no problem with him going out and busting ass and flying around in less higher stakes big time matches and popping crowds that way, but when he gets full control of a match pacing and layout they all start blending together like that with little emotion or actual in ring struggle or storytelling. He's not out there to craft a story and make a match look like a fight unless someone drags that out of him, his main goal is to go out there and look cool and get a reaction first and foremost and that just doesn't connect with what I want out of pro wrestling."

Kyle Fletcher in Steel Cage, v.s. Naito, and v.s. Takeshita (my personal favorite). All of these matches were well done and versatile, ranging from hardcore to high flying to more traditional sports entertain-y. Even being a relatively new fan of his, it's easy to see why people love him and why people are calling him one of the best wrestlers ever. Looking forward to watching more of his matches both past and future!"

[10.0] "One of the most amazing things I've ever seen. Not just wrestlers. The Universe. Range of human capability. Ospreay opens discussion on 'how far is too far'. Dangerous. Unsustainable. Unfair. Makes every other wrestler look slow, weak and cowardly. Not his fault, he's just that good. With a physicality that is mind blowing. Body. Brain. Ospreay's brain is super-human. It's levels of anticipation, adaptation and flow is breath taking. Spontaneous invention. Brings out the best in everyone he comes in contact with. Only someone that great can give that much. He IS wrestling. Him. Omega. El Vikingo, before the fall. Before I encouraged him to break his leg. Snapped like a twig. Can he move the same? Don't know. Not sure he should try. Should Ospreay be able to be Ospreay? The mind boggles. How is he Ospreay? How does he Ospreay? He's a freak. So fast. So smart. Rides a crowd like a soul surfer. Brings the show. Human electricity. I could write a book on the Arial assassin and not scratch the surface. Words do not do the man justice."

One of the only wrestlers I have never seen have a bad match ever. He has over 50 5-star matches. His style in the ring can go on for generations and never die. Super athletic and has a heck of a move set. [10.0]"
