[4.0] "What a weird mix of individuals for one match. The Rock, Barry Windham, Jake "The Snake" Roberts, Jerry "The King" Lawler, Dustin Rhodes, Johnny B. Badd, Sable, Terri Runnels, Triple H. This match should be off the chain, but it was just a calculated effort on WWF's part to get Rocky over and didn't work. Sunny on commentary is grating. What is Barry Windham supposed to be as The Stalker? What a mess..."

[5.0] "This match lacks heat for most of its runtime and definitely goes on too long. However, it serves its purpose of promoting Rocky Maivia as the next big star. The ending accomplishes this well. Watching the match with hindsight is interesting, particularly seeing Rocky and HHH square off for the first time, knowing their future significance and history. Despite this, the match is really unremarkable. It's worth watching if you're a completist or interested in WWE and pro wrestling history, but it's not essential viewing."

[5.0] "Almost comically low on heat for the runtime, often relying on 1996 Jake Roberts to get the people engaged. The work is steady though, mostly coming and going without incident. In history, this is obviously famous for being The Rock's televised WWF debut, and he does pop quite a bit athletically in fairness. Beyond that, this is executed professionally and ticks the box they were looking for, it just struggles mightily to hook MSG in the process. **1/4"

[6.0] "The match was a bit of a mess, but it told its story well enough with Rocky Maivia making his debut and ending up in a big underdog situation where he had to wrestle Goldust and Crush by himself and ended up as the sole survivor. He was green in there, but it was a good moment for him and he got the crowd behind him. Marc Mero was probably the MVP of the match and wound up in there for most of the match where he took the most punishment and somehow doesn't make a tag. His elimination on Hunter with the moonsault looked really good, but I hated how he was eliminated by Crush while a replay was going on as that just felt so anti-climactic. The workrate was decent, but the match ended up feeling long."

Goldust had some nice moments, Barry Windham looked solid and Roberts was still over with the fans. The debut of Rocky with him being put over as the sole survivor and the crowd fully behind him for the final minutes."

It's crazy to think that at first, Rock's finisher was a fucking Shoulderbreaker. Aside from that, not much to say. It's definitely an important match, but not a good one. Just about average."

[5.0] "Sunny is sitting in for Lawler. McMahon asks her if she smokes and Sunny balks at the thought, saying she's "pure" Sunny and JR get on each others case. Kind of funny in hindsight as to where both are today. Mark Henry was supposed to be on Mero's team but suffered the first of his many, MANY injuries. Jake The Snake is serving as the replacement. Sunny bites off some of Lawlers insults for Jake. Hunter and Mero have the issue, because Mr Perfect turned on Mero and helped Hunter win the IC title then Hennig hi tailed it out of the WWF. Boy, Perfect sure got weird after his back injury, bailing on the WWF at Survivor Series TWICE! The Rock makes his WWF debut and JR starts in immediately with his "blue chipper" crap. Sunny makes a comment about only being 4 years old when Windham was tag champ...in 85. Rocky tags in for the first time and quickly gets caught in the heels corner. Lawler wants a piece of him and gets sent outside by Rocky's good guy offense. Jake plays face in peril getting beat on by the heels then Lawler wants in, the opportunist that he is. Jake quickly answers back with a ddt to end Lawlers night. Windham is the next to go, falling to the curtain call. Mero in next and he gets pummeled by the heels. Crush with the tilta whirl backbreaker for 2. Hunter comes in now that his hated rival is in trouble. Hunter tries an abdominal stretch (did you know Wilbur Snyder invented that? ) JR is on Harvey's case again for not doing anything about cheating. Mero rallies and pins Hunte after a moonsault to take revenge for him beating him for the IC title. Mero knocks Crush outside then misses a somersault plancha when GD pushes Crush out of the way and Mero splats hard. Crush sends him back in and hits the heart punch and the count. Jake runs in and immediately misses the short clothesline and gets pinned by Crush after a heart punch. Figures Rocky's gonna get mega pushed against Crush and the former IC champ. This is only the second time Rocky's been in the match. The Heels gang up on him and GD holds him while Crush goes for the heart punch. GD gets hit of course and Rocky capitalizes with a flying cross body on Crush to pin him then hits GD with his finisher the shoulder breaker to win. You know it's his finisher because JR calls it before he can complete the move."

[4.0] "This match is very notable for being the debut of Rocky Maivia, better known as Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. It also featured the PPV return of Crush, looking unrecognisable compared to any of his previous gimmicks, Barry Windham as "The Stalker", and Jake Roberts stepping in for an injured Mark Henry. The teams seemed thrown together randomly, and the action was unremarkable. Sunny was on commentary, and was better at it than you might expect. Watchable but nothing more, the match was obviously there to get Rocky over, and he looked good as the sole survivor, but apart from that there was nothing special here."

This match is obviously notable for the debut of The Rock who does show potential and I appreciate how dedicated they were to putting him over right from the off; you wouldn't catch them doing that now."

[5.0] "Hey! This is the debut of Rocky Maivia! While this is a pretty forgettable survivor series match, it's interesting to look back at the start of The Rock's career in the WWF. Jake Roberts gets a pretty big pop, but aside from that, and Rocky's win, there wasn't much memorable."
