[7.0] "This was a pretty good match. Gauntlet for the Gold is basically a Royal Rumble style match, with the final two participants left wrestling in a regular match where you have to win by pinfall or submission. This was after Alberto El Patron had to vacate the world title due to real life controversies with Paige. The early part of the match wasn't the most interesting, with guys like Braxton Sutter and Richard Justice, but it definitely picked up as the match went on. This match was the televised debut of John Morrison in the company, being renamed to Johnny Impact, and he was on of the MVP's of the match the moment he came in. We had some international talent in there, that being Garza Jr, Taiji Ishimori, and El Hijo Del Fantasma, with Fantasma probably looking the best. I forgot Eddie Kingston was even in this match, and I do wish they gave Kingston more of an opportunity to be a bigger star in what was then called GFW, but it didn't happen. The story with Moose, Lashley and his association with American Top Team continued here as well. Low Ki got the 20 spot after getting screwed out of a title shot when Patron vacated, but was eliminated. I do wish Low Ki would have lasted a little longer in there, doing some extra stuff and maybe being in the final 4. The final two were the two that started that match, that being Eddie Edwards and Eli Drake, and after a few minutes, Drake beat Edwards to win the match and the title. I'm happy that he got this win. If LA Knight doesn't get to the level of world title holder in WWE, at least we can look back and say that he won the world title in TNA. Not perfect, but by the end, it became a pretty good match. ***1/2"
