05.05.2023 | Makai Club | 8.0 | A quality match that is unfortunately not on New Japan World. But dont worry, all the mediocre ones are on there. There was a strong lock up to begin the match. And I do love a good lock up. Otani aggressively targets Samurais knee after scoring an ankle pick in an amazing way. It came across as very brutal and focused. Otani truly wanted to tear his knee ligaments right then. That carried over throughout the match opposed to just the first few minutes, followed up by perfunctory grappling like his a lot of the famed Junior Heavyweight contests. Otani gets busted open by the nose but it doesnt deter him from fighting on, especially in-front of his father. Samurai fights back with double wrist lock attempts of his own that seem to cause niggling issues for Otani and the match becomes a battle of whos limb will give out first. The nearfalls were really good and had the crowd rocking. Ontais expressiveness made it so compelling. Although Otani lost the match, which seemed like a mistake, its not the main Junior title, so who cares? ****
23.08.2022 | UWF Rules Enthusiast | 10.0 | Great match with a lot of focus on matwork. This is one of the best pro wrestling matches that was focused almost solely on matwork. They wrestled with so much urgency and intensity that they were able to keep things interesting for over 20 minutes without having to rely on the type of flashy moves you would normally expect from a NJPW junior heavyweight division match.

12.06.2021 | pierreMinne | 9.0 | This was a fantastic technical junior match. The legwork of Otani was awesome, for example his Dropkick from the top rope on El Samurai's leg was very inventive. The selling of both men was perfect and their mat work was perfect too. Otani bleeding added even more at the story, and I loved his reaction when he saw El Samurai kicking out of his Dragon Suplex. ****1/2

31.01.2017 | arrancar | 8.0 | Another fantastic NJPW 90s Junior match. Otani’s grapple and submission game was vicious as always, with Otani maintaining his holds despite any resistance Samurai offered. Samurai sold the leg well initially but his selling was spotty after he gained control. As the match progressed Otani became more and more aggressive and determined to tear Samurai’s leg apart. Otani did well in constantly scrambling to protect his arm from Samurai’s submission holds and appropriately facially expressing his distress and pain when locked in one, showing how dangerous Samurai’s holds were. I thought Otani could have sold his arm injury better but he didn’t use the injured limb without hinderance excessively, so I wasn’t majorly bothered. Otani still sold his exhaustion very well anyways, so this still told the story of how much pain Otani had been through. I loved Otani using his signature top rope missile drop kicks to continue targeting Samurai’s injured leg. As usual Otani displayed great emotion in the final 10 minutes, acting as if winning this match was the most important thing in the world to him. Although the limb work was spotty from both wrestlers it told a good story and ended up playing a very exciting role in the finishing stretch. These two had superb chemistry all match and had plenty of exciting sequences. Otani’s passionate character makes him the star of whatever match he’s in, and YET AGAIN I was crushed to see him so determined to win but ultimately fail. ****
27.03.2016 | RaviC19 | 9.0 | I gave this match **** 1/4. Great match with both guys working a specific body part in order to get the win. The instant submission at the end and the quite slow opening minutes bring this down for me

08.09.2014 | eldenaaaaa | 9.0 | Wow, surprisingly awesome match. Both men worked over a body part of the other. The match demonstrated each mans knowledge of the mat in a variety of styles that had been a part of the New Japan Junior's Division for years. The built up to the finish perfectly as the moves were executed and both men just really worked their best performance ever.
