[4.0] "Tied with the opening night for the worst 2025 G1 show thus far, with no matches really worth checking out but at least no outright terrible matches either. Tsuji vs Boltin had a nice story of Tsuji's athleticism and speed vs Boltin's raw strength, resulting in a nice mixture of styles and some cool spots and sequences, even with their few bit of awkward chemistry. Tsuji truly looked great here, but Boltin still has obvious clumsiness. Finlay vs Newman saw Finlay's nasty beatdown work and impactful power moves up against Newman's signature speedy and athletic stuff, which was yet another nice mix of styles. I also liked Newman's sympathetic general selling and how consistent his back-selling was. The abrupt finish also worked because it protected Finlay in defeat and emphasised Newman's luck but also determination in victory. I'd probably give this the slight edge for MOTN. Taichi vs Sanada would've been fine if it focussed on wrestling and not just the same old played-out H.o.T interference spots. At least the interference was relatively varied I guess, plus Taichi's fiery character work remained quite compelling. Evil vs Uemura followed Evil's fine brawl work against Uemura's sympathetic selling, consistent back-selling, and fiery comeback attempts. We also got yet another load of crappy H.o.T interference, but at least the babyface overcame it all this time and we instead got a bit of straight wrestling at the end. Tanahashi vs Oiwa was rough. Oiwa did his best to carry the match with his strong fundamentals, bursts of energy, and general confidence, but Tanahashi is still very much washed-up. At least Tanahashi's babyface character work remained compelling, and Oiwa impressed with the carry-job. Ratings: Tsuji vs Boltin ***. Finlay vs Newman ***. Taichi vs Sanada **1/4. Evil vs Uemura **1/2. Tanahashi vs Oiwa **1/2"
[5.0] "Definitely the worst night so far. Oleg vs Tsuji (**.25): This wasn't super bad, but it was far from being an alright match. The action underdelivered to me, and the messed up ending really soured the match score for me. Newman vs Finlay (***.75): Match of the night for sure. Good psychology, good beatdown of Newman, good comeback and overall this was a pretty fun match. SANADA vs Taichi (*.75): Nice to see Taichi having a young lion under his wing. The strong style spots in the match didn't deliver as well as they used to with SANADA, and it showed. The Milano spot was nice, but everything else was bad. I also hated that this was longer then the main event too. Yuya vs EVIL (***): Decent stuff. Good story of Yuya pulling off an underdog win against the scumbag heel, the action was alright and there were some cool spots, but the interferences were too much, which ultimately cost the match rating. Other then that this was the best EVIL match in the G1 so far. Oiwa vs Tanahashi (***.5): Solid stuff, but nothing worth being main event material. Limb work from both men was alright, but it went less then 15 minutes, meaning we didn't get much for action."
[7.0] "Sokid preview action, followed by great and HoT G1 matches. The two HoT matches in a row slowed things down a lot, but the other G1 matches were nice"
[6.0] "The most skippable show of the G1 so far, with no match reaching above "fine" or "alright." Some had the potential to be good, but fell apart for one reason or another"
[7.0] "Decent enough night of the tournament, but like many nights this year, brought down by the House yet again. Fun main event, though, but not a lick on yesterday's."
[6.0] "The tag matches were sufferable but there was no stand-out in the tournament bouts. Anyways the main-event and Finlay vs Newman were interesting. **3/4"
