[6.0] "A very solid quick snappy episode of Nitro with stars in every match and a couple over arching stories throughout keep it pretty entertaining. Regal vs. Benoit is the highlight here."

[8.0] "This was a pretty good wrestling focused episode of Nitro with all of the matches being solid viewing, even the Hogan v Flair main event being an entertaining spectacle before the inevitable silly DQ shenanigans. Savage v AA was a good example of how to make a match with a short allotted time work well and Benoit v Regal was also a really good technical wrestling match while it lasted, but the finish went a bit flat. The main storyline outside of Hogan being ridiculously OP was The Four Horseman showing seeds of dissension because of Bryan Pillman causing trouble with Kevin Sullivan and the Dungeon of Doom with AA not wanting to start a rivalry with them because of Ric Flair's association with Jimmy Hart."

"Great legends of wrestling in a single show, it is magnificent, although I am left wanting more of the fight of the two best of the 80s, such as Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan"

[10.0] "A new year brings excitement in the form a great wrestling and something actually interesting happening with the Dungeon of Doom and Brian Pillman. We get the only Nitro appearance of the Super Assasins, a the biggest reward we get a good match between Hogan and Ric Flair. Wish it wasn't another DQ finish."

[3.0] "The first Nitro of 1996 continued WCW's trend of really bad episodes. Zero matches here were actually good, and the few good things were way too short to be properly worthwhile. Arn vs Savage was a fine but forgettable opener. Arn showed good grit as he delivered an aggressive beatdown and targeted Savage's arm. Savage's work was pretty mediocre with his typical "showboating and overacting > physicality and athleticism" mentality. **1/4. Benoit vs Regal was really good but tragically short. They had wonderful chemistry as they performed their technical exchanges and traded aggressive strikes and power moves, with strong selling and energetic bumping to accompany it all. A real shame about the very lame finish, as if the short length wasn't bad enough. This would have been really good if either man was given the respect they deserve and allowed to work 10+ minutes. **3/4. Pillman gave a good unhinged promo to set up dissension within the Four Horseman, though I hated that the Dungeon of Doom dorks had to get involved. Luger & Sting vs The Super Assassins was really lame. The first minute was obscured in a split screen due to the continued stupid storyline with Pittman looking for a manager, this time attempting to appeal to Mongo, and the rest of the match followed a very generic, low-effort 90s American wrestling structure with very bland exchanges. *1/2 It was weird to not see Luger and Sting develop on their tensions that heated up at Starrcade and instead just act like they were total friends again. Poor writing there. Hart? s interview with Mean Gene was decently energetic and confident, but The Giant was typically goofy and overly screamy to make up for his lack of any actual charisma or personality. Flair vs Hogan was pretty damn bad, which was to be expected since it involved Hulk Hogan. Flair's offence and heel work was decent, but Hogan's goofy selling, corny "hulk-ups", and ultra cheesy and uninspired comebacks were really bad and just made a mockery of all of Flair's genuine efforts. And then the big interference ended the match by DQ, with Hogan looking ridiculously strong as he stood up to the Four Horsemen's run-ins and then had them all cowering in fear in front of him. He also then sent The Giant packing after he ran down, as if Hogan didn't look ridiculously strong enough already. At least Flair tried as much as he could, but Hogan made this a total Hogan match. *3/4. Hogan and Savage showed their generic character work in their post-match interview as they tried to hype up a match between them and the Four Horseman. I could have given this show a 2/10 considering how bad the last two matches were, but that Benoit-vs-Regal match had decently enjoyable enough to bump the whole show up a bit. Everything else was very, very worthless."

[9.0] "Randy Savage vs. Arn Anderson and Chris Benoit vs. Lord Steven Regal are both really great short matches with smart finishes. Lex Luger and Sting teaming up is always fun for me, and they have an enjoyable match with the Powers of Pain, albeit it under masks. Hogan vs. Flair isn't an in ring classic, as you might expect, but the post match is chaotic, if a little too pandering to Hogan's ego."

[5.0] "Slow start for the new year episode. Randy Savage vs Arn Anderson is terrible, Benoit vs Regal is okay, the tag team match seems too normal for Sting and Lex Luger, even after their match at Starrcade. Flair vs Hogan is a good main event for the title. The episode seems longer because sometimes it gets boring."
