Tatum came across as a good smarmy heel most of the time, which I why I'm kinda surprised he never made it anywhere outside of Texas. Casey was technically sound, but charismatically challenged. He would have a brief run in the WWFin a few years. This match wasn't terrible, but my mind started wandering in the middle of it."

A detour for David before he begins his final acts with WALTER and Devlin, both are in the main event of this show. [3]"

[7.0] "Similar to their first match in 2005 on the show in that both complimented each other very well with London being a great underdog while Nunzio effectively picked apart Londons knee. London built a nice comeback in spite of the knee. While I enjoyed Taz in WWE, he was pretty annoying in this match."

It was solid and had a couple decent moments, but just seemed to lack energy and felt a lot longer than it was. I wish it was earlier in the show when the crowd was feeling a bit more enthusiastic. As it stands, it unfortunately did not live up to its potential."

[5.0] "Im trying not to let last nights show taint this one, which was honestly *fine*. The booking was good all around: Taichi needed the win more than Shingo, DOUKI beating Hiromu was the moment of the night for me, Uemura losing his hair will be a good move forward for him and it sets Tsuji up as the logical next challenger for the IWGP World Heavyweight belt (between him and ZSJ, both great options), and Naito going over SANADA goes without saying. The quality of wrestling was honestly just pretty bland, it ranged from pretty average to actually pretty good, but with a middling main and semi main, a couple good matches before, a surprisingly fun but still not great match from Taka and BUSHI and a few nothing tag matches, this show really isnt worth revisiting, or even watching in the first place. These two Sapporo cards were my most anticipated cards of February but both really underwhelmed, not sure what the future of NJPW is looking like anymore."

[3.0] "This card was simply terribly booked. The quality of wrestling wasnt terrible overall, not worthy of a 0, but the booking was. Finlay losing the Global title on his first defence after the brilliant character work hes put in is really just depressing, I dont mind Nemeth but we have 0 clue how dedicated to NJPW hell be. Riddle should not be booked by anyone at this point considering his history outside the ring, both the horrendous things hes been accused of and his inability to avoid legal problems. SHO deserved a title run but this was really poor working from him, even within the context of HoT shenanigans, same goes for EVIL. The womens match was pretty decent but had very inconsistent selling of limb work (probably the least egregious problem on the card) and felt a bit sloppy at times, other than that theres very little to mention. The basic ring quality being tolerable is the only thing giving this show any points, honestly its a depressing time to be a NJPW fan."

[8.0] "Nicholls is maybe the most underrated guy in NJPW in my opinion. Hes an incredibly hard hitting worker with great technical skills and the better wrestler of TMDK for my money. TMDK is probably my favourite tag team going currently but Id also love to see more of Nicholls in the G1 and NJPW Cup. Hell likely never win a singles belt in NJPW, but hes an incredible hand in singles bouts, whilst being one of the best tag wrestlers going. TMDK absolutely need a lengthy tag run in NJPW. Outside of the ring he doesnt have much charisma aside from a raw anger and swagger which compliments Haste pretty perfectly, but he fits in and has a good look for a supporting member of a faction. As a singles guy he gets a 7 but as a tag wrestler he gets a 9, so Ill split the difference and give him a solid 8. Dont sleep on Mikey Nicholls!"

Honestly, it felt like a bit of a slog to get through the middle portion of the match, it felt like a 25+ minute match to get through, rather than a 17 minute one. The last 5 minutes pick up a lot and there is some good in here, not to mention just the aura of watching Kawada vs Tenryu (even when theyre past their best), but it wasnt their best bout. Honestly Id go and watch their 2000 singles match instead, not too much to be taken from this."

[7.0] "After a stormy and charging approach from Starr, avoiding all the usual mistakes and slip-ups of matches past, getting WALTER to falter and need time to come to his feet for the first time ever... it's all taken away by the desperation of the big man this time. Starr had him beat but a false tap paired with a foot UNDER the rope made Starr think he really did it. He's screaming in victory, he's embracing the referee as he's being told that the match is still going. WALTER sneaks up from behind and twists the knife at the very end. Such an incredible, fascinating finish there. Perfectly done. [3.5]"

It picked up towards the end with a decent exchange followed by Luger making a very energized comeback, but the majority of this was a slog. I'm not really feeling this sudden clothesline finisher that Luger has been using, either."

The crowd was hot, finishing stretch was exciting and they stuck the landing. ***3/4+"

While Kenta Kobashi and Kensuke Sasaki had a big ol' "chop-off" back in the day, their successors decide to have a uh... "kick-off" and man were those kicks brutal. Some crazy spots on the outside, and the crowd definitely got hot towards the end of this. The middle dragged a little bit, but I still thought this was fantastic overall. Not a perfect match, but these are two of the best in Japan."

[5.0] "I don't really see any particular reason that this should have such a low rating (outside of the extremely lame finish). Yes, there are several very limited wrestlers here, but Orndorff, Arn, and Windham do a remarkable job covering for them. Arn is especially great and does very well making Gigante seem like a threat (despite him being so poor that they couldn't even tag him into the match). It's not perfect, but I enjoyed watching the three best wrestlers in the match dig into their bag of tricks to make this work."

[6.0] "This aired. When Cagematch puts it up I will leave a review for all of the matches, because they have already been written, Scott Casey vs Iron Mike Sharpe felt sabotaged (3.75). I really enjoyed The Killer Bees vs The Fabulous Rougeaus and I safely recommend it (8.25). Rick Rude vs Don Muraco was much better than expected but felt a bit too short (5.75). The Hammer vs The Snake was excellent and if you don't mind a slower pace, I HIGHLY recommend this (8.75). Andre The Giant vs Hacksaw Jim Duggan wasn't as bad as I thought it would be (4.25). The Bulldogs & The Birdman vs Bobby Heenan & his Islanders was definitely good enough and I had no real complaints (6.75). The Intercontinental Championship match between Brutus The Barber Beefcake and The Honkytonk Man was a complete flop/failure/dud/lump of &? %$! and I gave it a ZERO. The average is a 5.35 rounded down. While the opener wasn't that good and the last match quite horrible, the rest wasn't so bad! The Killer Bees vs Rougeaus & Greg Valentine vs Jake Roberts get two thumbs way up. Math doesn't lie but I will give it a small bonus because the good is certainly commendable. I give it a 5.5"

Anyways, I am not sure if there has ever been a second generation wrestler who has tapped into his legacy more than Bron. He really is a good combination of Rick and Scott with a little more updated move set. To me, he clearly will have the most success as a heel in the vein of his uncle. He was the clear standout in the match, whether on offense or bumping for Otis. Right when this was getting good though, they hit me with WWE bs like the worm. It was really unnecessary and killed a really good segment of the match. Thankfully, Bron brought it back with the counter off the back of Otis. Fun match despite the flaws. These four could do something really nice if they were allowed to just quit the schmoz."

The Steiners have such great offence that I can enjoy more-or-less any match that features them, but the Freebirds bring nothing to the table other than stalling. The homophobic slurs chanted by the crowd don't exactly help matters either. Whenever the Steiners are on offence you can find some entertainment value here, but there are so many Steiner matches that are a better use of your time."

He is essentially a JAG who got some tattoos and a mohawk. I checked it out because it ad some decent reviews but this was nothing more than a typical WWE level TV match. One thing though is that the WWE is really wasting the physical prime of Dijak's career in NXT."

Many long matches whose results were foregone conclusions, cold matches with people I don't care about and have not been made to care about, and on top of that no interesting in-ring promos either. This show pretty much felt extremely skippable. Ospreays star power is lowered by having 20 minute matches with guys who are supposed to be beneath him in kayfabe. The main event also didn't really impress me too much, on top of the result being obvious. It's a shame as I like both guys involved."

There were some pretty good moments but a good majority of this match lacked the excitement and the intensity that I would expect, which led to some really boring stretches. It felt like a LONG 23 minutes which is something that I never want to feel in any match. This wasn't bad by any means but "decent" is a disappointment outcome for this match specifically given the circumstances."

[5.0] "Match also found on Prime Time Wrestling Oct 8th '87: Scott Casey had just recently started to acquire some wins on WWF television. Meanwhile Steve Lombardi is getting a weird "push" of sorts: He won against Sivi Afi and in general, is more of a threat and is starting to get some of his "things" down. There is a Casey fan congregation somewhere as audible pops ring out for everything he does in the beginning. Scott gets in his Greco-Roman knuckle lock into a kicking down one of one arm, Wrist Drag & Lock with a Leg Trip Takedown while still holding onto the opposite wrist spot and *gush* It's purdy rasslin. Joy is soon crushed as the match's pace comes to a screeching halt far too early. Lombardi in control and things are only so-so. Casey brings the crowd to life at times but it's always cut off. Casey finally makes a comeback at last and SCOTT CASEY PILEDRIVER! His looked so, damn, AWESOME. The only caveat to his Piledriver is in the WWF, he'd play to the crowd instead of making the cover right away. Shortly thereafter a Bulldog with an immediate cover finishes this and... AEW has a great roster and they don't hurt for quality match-ups. What's really missing is a compelling story - even just one. Other stuff: Shibata probably got his brain shaken up a little more than usual in that match and is still alive, Don's promos with the red lighting and metallic background look really good, and the tag tournament is not really interesting at all and feels like a necessity rather than something anyone really wants to see."

Steve Lombardi at times looks quite excellent and formidable. Leave it to Brady Boone to make the future Brooklyn Brawler seem like a force to contend with. I mean seriously, if you ever want to be simply shocked at the way Steve Lom-freakin'-bardi is pouring on the offense (and defense), this is a match that will leave you in bewilderment. None of it looks bad but it feels SO wrong. Boone eventually makes his comeback and it has some stuff I've always liked: Spinning Kick to the Mid-Section (ala Nicholai Volkoff) followed by a (Mr. Wrestling II) Knee Lift, he follows that up here with his Leaping/Flying Back Elbow Smash. Just when you think it's going Boone's way, a timely Back Suplex from the Turnbuckles by Lombardi! Nice. Both men start missing big time and the result is a German Suplex into a Bridge and YEAH! Ok well dang. one of the best Steve Lombardi matches out there, looked great until the bitter end and it's fun. 7.25"

WALTER was a goddamn heat factory in this match. He repeatedly and consistently shut the babyfaces down with such malice and discontent that it genuinely riled me up at one point, i was fuming. The real crux of this match and what pushes it over the edge into 9 territory is the finish. Starr's betrayal of his BFF. It was a shocking end to a great match. Hes undeniably incredibly athletic, but it can feel like hes cosplaying other, better, wrestlers often. When I see an Ospreay match I will often see the best bits of other bouts with better workers, but just pushed together without the psychology. I never really buy his selling or facial expressions, his promos will often just be borderline unwatchable also. Ill avoid including my personal feelings toward him as a guy who I dont think should be where he is in the industry due to the defence of an abuser like Scala and the blacklisting of talents who spoke out against him, as horrific as those things are, but I still don't feel I could rate him higher than an 7. His best matches are always with workers who are better and more charismatic than him, hes the worst when were supposed to root for him, hes just too unlikeable."

Go out of your way to watch his stuff in WCW, it's a totally different animal/athlete and you will find a new appreciation for the man. I'll eventually relive it for the 4th time but until then... The WWF/WWE stuff was always hit or miss because Vince had no idea what he really had and how to utilize him but whatever. For some reason I even adore the Showkishi/Showster etc era and you can't top this: my seven year old niece knows ONE wrestler, guess who? Now is the time to push this guy hard and give him a lengthy title reign, NJPW needs him as the smiling figurehead of the new era. Austin v Michaels is a great match as well despite the double DQ finish. They put on a wrestling clinic and when it ended everyone wanted to see them go at it again. The 6 man tag was fine with Sycho Sid putting over the Hart Foundation on his way out of the company and there was some fun stuff with the Hart foundation where Austin beats up Brian Pillman and flushed his head down the toilet and then later the Harts issue a challenge for the Canadian Stampede PPV (that show was amazing btw). [6.0] "A very AEW-style match, where there's not much to indict in terms of athleticism, but the actual structuring and the storytelling (or lack there of) is what holds it back. There wasn't much truly at stake going into this, since it was pretty clear Swerve was getting the win. I mean, he's the one who's already constantly been feuding with Joe, whereas Takeshita's last true, convincing win over an established star was his match with Omega back in September, and he's otherwise just faced mid-carders and past-their-prime veterans. Point being: there was no reason to believe, in kayfabe or IRL, that Takeshita had a chance of winning here. And then the match itself was really basic "AEW big match" stuff, like with them opening up with 50/50 stalemates, developing into trading control periods with mid-level moves, and eventually just hitting their big moves back and forth at a fast pace. Takeshita's offence looked better just because of his superior athleticism and physicality, whereas Swerve still has moments where his set-ups are too slow or his usually slick-looking offence actually looks a bit rough. Takeshita is still capable of having some really explosive and hard-hitting offence, so this was likely never going to be a merely mediocre match, but I think Swerve lacks those convincing attributes with his own offence because he instead focuses on his uniquely 'stylish' movements, thus his work often isn't as exciting as his opponents', though still good when placed in better-structured matches. Unfortunately, there was quite a bit of dead air in-between their bigger interactions, and it wasn't until the 2nd half (really the final 1/4th) when their 'bigger' spots and sequences actually became impressive and didn't feel as outright underwhelming. They did attempt a bit of a story with Swerve injuring his neck/shoulder and thus being limited by that, but it's not like that ever became a major focus of the match or of Swerve's performance, so that was really just thrown out there for the sake of it, it felt. They had all the usual big-move trades and counters you'd expect in the final few minutes, which again goes to show how watered down AEW's big-match style feels, since it's like all their stars wrestle with the exact same mentality and possess the exact same characteristics. These two were still talented enough to make this mildly fun, but it's nothing I can imagine many remembering a week later. ***"

[6.0] "Nothing remotely blow-away by today's standards, but I couldn't help still enjoying this just because of both men's impressive dedication to their styles and to their strictly methodical pacing. They went 60 minutes (of which I believe all but maybe 5 minutes made tape), and it was thus really slow and involved quite a few holds. What made that all tolerable, however, was how the fixation on those holds actually made them a major focus of the match, thus they weren't just "rest" holds applied without any thought except for the sake of taking up time, and were instead treated by both men as their actual attempts to control and submit each other. It also wasn't like they were constantly, rapidly trading holds in a self-indulgent exhibition-type way like what we'd see on the indies in the early 00s, which was a bonus. As others have mentioned, I have to say that Destroyer was the star here. He was a loudmouthed complainer as usual, but in an entertaining way and without becoming comically over-the-top like we usually see from such foreign US heels. It also of course helped that he's shown to be very talented with his wrestling, since he's very athletic and slick, had an array of interesting holds, and he really only ever supplemented his offence with cheap shots and outright cheating instead of making it his sole strategy, which allowed for some extra variety in terms of action without dragging the match down. He always came off as appropriately gruff and arrogant when in control, and appropriately deranged whenever Baba was in control. There was still a bit of a clear "I'm playing up my annoyance and my prideful boasting" when it came to his selling and character work, but he never approached annoying levels, thus he came off as a fun character without bordering on cartoon villain territory. Baba himself was good here, and at times really good, but I do think it was more the case of Destroyer doing the hard work to put Baba over, rather than Baba himself looking like a star through his own actions. I enjoyed his ardent focus on various different leg scissor holds to control Destroyer, and I liked how he was positioned as the more intelligent wrestler, as seen by how he was constantly able to trap Destroyer in the same holds and how he constantly forced him to flee outside the ring to catch his breath and reformulate a plan of attack, or how he always got the better in their straight-up interactions and thus forced Destroyer to cheat and take cheap shots. Baba also had some pretty cool grappling transitions and takedowns that displayed a decent level of athleticism and speed relative to his massive size and gangly body type, which is still weird to see considering what I know of him from the 90s. I do wish we saw more of that, though maybe that took a big toll on him physically, who knows. Baba's strikes were a weaker point of his game but not as weak as I've previously seen from him. His holds themselves were decent, though it was usually Destroyer's somewhat animated selling that really put them over. He came off more convincing whenever he was just consolidating positions rather than going for submissions. While the match did have quite a few memorable moments -- like the period where Destroyer was struggling to escape Baba's shoulder-dislocation type armbar variant, or when Destroyer was constantly evading Baba's bigger moves as he came off the ropes -- I still thought they were mostly retreading a few too many of the same story beats one after the other following those detours, instead of using them as transition points to develop the match into distinctive periods. 90% of the match was basically split between grappling, a bit of scrappy striking, and Destroyer taking cheap/illegal shots, so a bit more variety would've been nice. They did at least switch things up more in the 2nd half as Baba got more annoyed and thus more aggressive, which was nice, although I wouldn't say his offence itself entirely reflected that attitude (i.e. his strikes still didn't look the best, and his brawling seemed limited to just pulling at Destroyer's mask a bit and maybe slamming his face into the turnbuckle once). The match most significantly switched up following their brief crowd brawl around the 45-minute mark, at which point Baba got quite bloodied but actually seemingly got invigorated as a result, leading to a pretty fun period as he quickly chaining together a lot of his bigger moves and went for pin falls before finally getting the 1st (and only) fall of the match off a quick roll-through Thesz-Press-type counter. The final 5 minutes saw both guys trade some brief control periods and then throw a lot of counters/evasions at each other, all of which looked good and were aided by the other's dedicated selling and bumping, plus the crowd getting more vocal as the announcers intermittently announced the remaining minutes/seconds, thus adding extra drama. Destroyer should've been more urgent in the final few minutes, since he should've known how close he was to losing, but I did still like the finish as he worked over Baba's injured leg and then finally applied the Figure Four right at the very end to tease that he might get his own first fall right at the very end to cause a draw. There was many cool ideas here and a few concretely cool moments, but the massive length and the lack of significantly developments until only the final 1/4th definitely held it back. As far as old school matches go, however, this may as well be a 4-star 'great'-level match, and it's definitely an alright viewing if you've got the time and are interested in seeing a match very 'of its time'. ***"

It had some great mat wrestling, fun brawling where Austin removed the padding around the ring and nobody expected it where at the end of the match despite them bickering and disliking each other they showed sportsmanship and respect by walking out together. The ending disappointed everyone who saw it, but it did accomplish its goal where you want to see them go at it again and it was pretty funny how it got to that finish where the referees end up getting attacked. They do a great job of keeping a fast pace throughout the match and it's not reliant on big or repetitive spots. One of the last great Austin matches before his neck break later that year."

This match is, in my opinion, one of his biggest hits. This is less of a match and more of a dissertation on wrestling's 4th wall. It's silly and simple in a way that only DDT can really do, and if you are looking for something different (and understand a -lot- of Japanese), this is a super fun one. He almost seems scared of his own brutality at the early stages, hell lash out with a closed fist strike and then be quite surprised at himself, which is a really interesting touch. This was a very hard hitting and technically sound bout, with both men focusing more on the shoot-esque grappling and sprawls, its an extremely enjoyable match which doesnt really slow down. The only criticism I have really is the constant leniency by the referee, I understand that disqualifications shouldnt really take place in this kind of bout, but Fry would choke Kawada for upward of 10 seconds before the ref even starts to count, the amount of closed fist strikes that were thrown in succession with only a mild warning. It just took me out of it a bit which is a shame considering the level of work between the two men on display."

Of course, they are loud for a very, VERY good reason. This is once again another match of the year contender with Will Ospreay involved. I don't know how the man does it asides from being quite literally one of the best wrestlers of all time. That is by NO MEANS a discredit to Micheal Oku. He is just as incredible here, and plays such an amazing babyface in comparison to Will Ospreay's ruthless, disgusting heel work and desperation that grows as time goes on. Every move here is done to perfection, and I don't even know what I could even mention in terms of moves and spots without overshadowing so many other beautiful, incredible moments. The exchange of incredible finishers, the most insane, impossible to think of counters, the greatest near falls I have ever fucking seen, and the most satisfying payback and victory for Oku.
