But, that's still better than when it could've been considered a 6 because its audience was more limited than it is now. Here's to hoping the brand and title can get more elevation through the next few years."

Nigel McGuinness, Bryan Danielson, Jay Lethal, Bandido. Hell, even the weaker ones aren't that bad, and there were always quality matches to be found for the ROH World Title. There still are today, even if people say that ROH's quality has lulled under Tony Khan's control."

Samoa Joe really cemented it as a world title in my eyes, and the incredible next several years of the title were otherworldly incredible. Unfortunately, the belt lost quite a bit of its luster in recent years. What once made it special is now completely missing. I'd consider it a "junior" world title on par with the NXT Title. Perhaps someday it will be returned to its former glory, but I don't think that will be possible in its current form."

[7.0] "The Ring of Honor Championship was, at one point, the pinnacle of wrestling titles in all of North America. It really felt like that holding this title made you THE best wrestler in the world. But ever since the decline of ROH in the late 2010s, it hasn't reached its heights once again. At this point, since their closure during the pandemic, the title doesn't really mean much. Gresham's title reign was perfect as he was a traveling champion, but he was ruined by AEW and every champion after has not done anything to fix the damaged image. With Jericho now as the champion, all we can hope for is that he looses it to somebody who CAN embody the ROH of old to bring the prestige back."

Those days are gone, but you can never forget how much Ring of Honor and its world championship meant to American wrestling."
Saladbagel wrote on 13.09.2024:
[6.0] "Many accomplished wrestlers have held this belt before, but I feel like many folks are blinded by nostalgia. ROH has been essentially a shell of its former glory for over a decade now carried by its legacy of a long time ago similar to NWA. As it stands now, it's not much of an accomplishment to win the current ROH World title since it's essentially just the lesser version of the AEW world title. Worse off, the main ROH belt is in that state where it's not really used to develop new wrestlers like the main NXT belt is. Still, this title is much more relevant than most companies' main belt, so being rated as "satisfactory" on Cagematch seems fair, given the circumstances of it being a lesser promotion's top prize with mediocre booking as of late."

The Ring of Honor championship used to be an amazing championship with high prestige with belt holders like Samoa Joe, CM Punk, Adam Cole, Bryan Danielson, Nigel McGuinness, and so many others. The current reigns are still okay with people like Claudio, Eddie Kingston, Mark Briscoe. My only problems are that he doesn't get booked on TV, and they gave the belt to Chris Jericho for no apparent reason. Still a fantastic belt however."

Even before then though there were a few missteps when it come to who was the champion, especially in the years before Tony bought it. Other promotions besides AEW have not treated the title as a major deal, New Japan for example. But the linage really is fantastic, with the title going to wrestlers that are upcoming starts in the world of pro wrestling."

"What used to be the most important championship in pro wrestling in North America for most of the 2000s now felled by being a company's 4th most important singles championship, 3rd if you don't include the AEW World Championship. I laughed when Jonathan Gresham threw a fit over losing the title, but now I kind of see his point. He spent the pandemic traveling the world with the title while ROH was just three letters that Tony Khan owned. Made it feel important, brought the original belt back. And now, it's a part of the CONTINENTAL CROWN that no one asked for. Eddie Kingston isn't even presented as the man, and frankly doesn't wrestle as the man. And I say this as a die hard Eddie fan. It's a useless prop now. But hey, I guess all belts are props. At least this one had meaning."

It was once, the most valuable Title during the mid 2000s and was held by the best and most outstanding professional wrestlers of the 2000s; Names like Samoa Joe, Bryan Danielson, CM Punk, Nigel McGuinness, etc. Since the late 2010s though, it began to loose the prestige it once had; The matches have been uninspiring, the storylines are generic and the level of competition has decreased. It's still a credible World Title but much less valuable than before. Hopefully with the acquisition of RoH by Tony Khan, the prestige of this Title rises."

Ring of Honor was my favourite promotion and their most valuable title meant the guy who was a champion was a real deal wrestler who presented some serious quality wrestling. In fact, I think it was still the most important title until the pandemics hit. This title around Rush's waist lost a lot of it's meaning, because there is almost no competition anymore. My favourite champions: Jay Lethal, Jay Briscoe, Tyler Black, Austin Aries, Nigel McGuinness."

There were barely a dud between each guy holding it, and some of the best matches of the last 15 years or so came from guys who held this belt at some point. Of course, ROH has fallen pretty badly these days, and that's reflected on the quality of the belt holders: I really don't think there's been a good one in a while."

[8.0] "The title history kinda resembles what ROH represented at that certain time. ROH was especially in its earlier years very focused on the wrestling. This lead to amazing organic wrestling storytelling. Low Ki is the perfect guy to indicate this route for ROH as their first champion since he's the guy to get reduced to wrestling. Ever since Joe's record run ROH was responsible for the creation of the biggest rising stars in the wrestling industry. Considering how much guys from Joe to Adam Cole benefited from becoming ROH Champion and considering the amazing title matches we've seen, this can only be a 10/10 title, right? Unfortunately at a certain time ROH's uniqueness was kinda overshadowed by indy-legends, indy-stars and to be honest, even Bullet Club. Once ROH was too influenced by the main-stream, even for the main-stream ROH lost its touch, though I hope some people can still enjoy it. I don't really blame the champions, a Dalton Castle could've had a way better title reign in ROH's prime days. But one thing you can tell is that if the wrestling industry gets more competitive again, the ROH championship and ROH itself had a big influence on this process."

This used to be the most prestigious championship in the United States during the mid 2000s with some all time greats being champions very early into their careers but now? It's almost a joke, guys who will be remembered as midcarders or even jobbers are now fighting for this championship. I don't want to remember this as championship fought between "No Charisma" Matt Taven and "I was the most over as an impersonator midcarder in TNA" Jay Lethal. I want to remember this being held by "The American Dragon" Bryan Danielson, "The Second City Savior" CM Punk, "The Samoan Submission Machine "Samoa Joe". I miss the old ROH."

When guys in ROH's past got long reigns, they made the best of them. Jay Lethal? Got boring as champion real quick. A year long reign is fine, but ROH doesn't quite have the crop of talent today as they once had to make a long reign work. Nor do they have the compelling stories or characters to make it work. Adam Cole might not be the answer to making the belt interesting, but he's at least a good step forward."

The sparsity of his title defenses so far is a little puzzling too. I was not necessarily the biggest Michael Elgin fan but I was surprised to see his reign cut short as he seemed to be almost doing "Samoa Joe V. 2" with his reign and that would have been no bad thing. Great company, great title, great booking, great prestige - but hopefully soon they'll have a greater champion."
