- Nach dem Ende der ersten NXT-Staffel bildeten die ehemaligen Konkurrenten dieses Stable.
- Daniel Bryan wurde nach dem Debüt-Angle aus der WWE entlassen, kehrte aber wenig später als Gegner der Gruppierung zurück.
- Darren Young wurde im August 2010 nach einer Niederlage gegen John Cena aus der Gruppe geworfen.
- Skip Sheffield verletzte sich am 18. August 2010 und ward seit dem nicht mehr Mitglied des Stable.
- John Cena musste sich nach einer Niederlage gegen Wade Barrett widerwillig Anfang Oktober anschließen.
- Michael Tarver wurde nach einer Leistenverletzung aus der Gruppierung geschrieben, vor den Kameras erklärte Wade Barrett nach einem Beatdown Cenas, fortan auf Tarver verzichten zu können.
- Husky Harris und Michael McGillicutty, NXT-Rookies der zweiten Staffel, wurden Ende Oktober offiziell als Mitglieder aufgenommen.
- Der Main Event der Survivor Series 2010 um den WWE Heavyweight Title zwischen Champion Randy Orton und Wade Barrett wurde von John Cena als Special Referee geleitet. Aufgrund der "Free Or Fired"-Stipulation wurde John Cena von Barrett gefeuert, nachdem Orton das Match gewann.
- CM Punk offenbarte bei der letzten RAW Show des Jahres 2010 am 27.12., dass er nach dem Ausfall von Barrett, aufgrund der Attacken von John Cena bei TLC 2010, der neue Anführer von The Nexus ist.
- Wade Barrett setzte daraufhin seine Mitgliedschaft innerhalb des Nexus in einem Triple Threat Steel Cage Match aufs Spiel, das er nach einem Eingriff von CM Punk nicht gewinnen konnte. Danach wechselte Barrett zur SmackDown-Brand. Diese erste Version der Nexus-Gruppierung ging damit zu Ende.

[6.0] "great debut, pretty good early run and a very good concept for an NWO style invasion storyline with a group with proper identity, there was however one issue ... a lack of talent, Wade Barrett and Gabriel had something, the others were average indie wrestlers dressed up as WWE wrestlers. Yeah, summerslam 2010 ruined them and then the downfall was very quick."

[7.0] "Oof, Nexus are a hard one to rate. Their rise in WWE was so damn good, but their fall off was really, really bad. They peaked way too soon as a faction and didn't get the important wins necessary to assert their dominance. So many people have said this throughout the years, but I'm going to say it again because it can never be forgotten. They absolutely, without a shadow of a doubt, should've won that SummerSlam 2010 match. They had debuted a little over 2 months by the time of this match, which on one hand says a lot because a lot of people can remember their presence on TV for such a short "peak" run. But man, right after that match the faction was just completely dead and not a threat. One of the best debuts in wrestling history, peaked right away but fell off so quick. It did however have a lot of great talent there which would go on to do better things. WWE should've put all their stock around that time into the faction and into Barrett. Slater & Gabriel were a decent team too. Tarver and Otunga were definitely the dead weight of the faction. They tried adding in more people like Bray & Axel but it was just too little, too late at that point. For what they managed to accomplish in such a short amount of time they deserve a 7."

[3.0] "I thought the idea of this stable was fantastic but after like three weeks, they already felt like old news. Now granted, quite a bit of that is the booking. But also, they never felt like they had an identity. I always found Wade Barrett and Justin Gabriel interesting and perhaps those two fit the group best out of anyone, but as a collective they made no sense. Otunga, Sheffield, Tarver, etc had no personality and didn't really offer much to the team either. And Heath Slater was just way too goofy to be taken seriously in a group that's supposed to be serious. On top of all that, the booking for them was just downright horrendous and only got worse as they went. 2010 WWE is one of the most uninteresting years of any wrestling company ever and the Nexus storyline is a big reason why, sadly."

But outside of wade Barrett I found everyone else to be very boring and extremely mediocre to bad in ring. While you had Bryan who was fired after they showed up on raw and Bray who hadn't fully developed yet, you also had guys like otunga and Gabriel who were frankly just bad. Wwe did a decent job of presenting them as a true threat to the roster but this was basically all wasted away when they got buried at summerlam at the hands of cena. I think if booked better and filled with better guys nexus could have been one of the better factions in wrestling history but ended up being wasted potential instead."

[2.0] "I've never been a fan of the first and OG version of the Nexus to truly begin with honestly. Despite them having a really great start, probably one of the best debuts for a wrestling stable ever and one of the most interesting things WWE have done in a very long time around that period and a lot of new talent fresh from the game show version of NXT, they could've been WWE's next huge thing if everything else went the way they were supposed to, but their major loss at WWE SummerSlam (2010) thanks to John Cena would forever ruined the projectory of everyone in the stable both as a group and single stars, were then made to look like a complete bore and laughing stock for the rest of their exist rivalry against Cena and not even CM Punk joining the group helped either with it later splitting up the group and into two worser versions in New Nexus and Corre. One of the biggest waste of talent and potential ever in WWE."

I don't think its that big of a deal they lost at Summerslam, but realistically pushing them further and setting up Barrett for a WM match against Taker or Cena was the move"

[6.0] "Oh what could've been. Their debut was fantastic, flawless even. And it was the platform for many staples of WWE for years after their debut, but the group just didn't flourish as a unit. Their goal of taking over WWE was rendered useless when they lost to Team WWE at SummerSlam and after that they just didn't reach the same heights they once did. The biggest star of the group, Daniel Bryan, was only there for the first day and was shortly fired meaning that you can't even attribute his success to the group. Unfortunately they're more of a wrestling "what if" and not something you can look back on with fond memories."

The first few months of their run was absolutely incredible and they were protected so well. It could've set WWE up for success with a whole crop of new main event talent to lead them into the future. But NOPE. This group got ruined after a devastating loss that shouldn't have happened against Team Cena, and it just left them to wander along before they were finally put to rest. It really should've been the thing that pushed all of the members, especially Barrett, into superstars. But instead, they just became a bunch of jabronis."

[6.0] "Nexus had a really hot start, I mean REALLY hot, as they destroyed the whole ringside area on their debut, which even led to Daniel Bryan getting fired for choking someone with a tie until he returned at Summerslam, but the booking destroyed them, as they lost all the important matches and the rest of the members were booked as clearly inferior to the leader Wade Barrett. It says something when the second best singles career out of the whole stable was Skip Sheffield/Ryback."

The potential this faction had was insane and it was nothing like what we had seen before, their debut was amazing, but CENAWINSLOL was at its peak during the era they entered so I would say wrong place wrong time but that uncharismatic bore Roman would've buried them himself if they had happened a few years later. Replacing Barrett with Punk was a mistake but at that point it was too little too late regardless. Gabriel and Slater were a solid tag team that could've been still put together after the faction split and even after Corre because of their chemistry but they both got released years later, which was a shame. Tarver, Ryback, Rosser, Otunga, and Hennig were nothing too special as we saw based on their careers Post-Nexus. The only one who succeeded was Husky Harris of all people, who saw that coming? Anyway, based on Retribution, pretty clear this would've have worked out regardless, maybe only during the Ruthless Aggression era because things almost always worked out in that era."

The idea of a group of rookies creating chaos all around the ring and at backstage is good, and they were portrayed as really good heels, you would hate them for real. Then injuries & other firings left the group in shambles. The Survivor Series loss to Super Cena pretty much killed the team."
