Not sure if his ring persona of a mischievous trickster who will kick your head clean off is character work or just how he is, maybe both. Talented athlete who can do it all: flying moves, kicks, grappling, and the occasional judo throw just because he can. Incredibly fun to watch. MAO can and does get the best out of absolutely everyone he wrestles, imposing his own rhythm on every match. There is no one like him. His match design is on the bleeding edge of what pro wrestling can be and evolve into, like Kenny Omega before him. That they both spent their formative years as wrestlers in DDT is, I would guess, not a coincidence."
[8.0] "If there was a guy tailor-made to my specific tastes in wrestling I think he would look like MAO. Does goofiness, cool flips, stiff puro and hardcore brawling sometimes all in the same breath and does all of it like it comes naturally to him. As Chris Charlton said on NJPW commentary, he'll just casually do something you've never seen before. And he does it with a smile on his face AND he has a hardcore band! ? Even though I semi-attempt to follow what DDT is doing I hadn't really seen what he brings to the table til the Best of the Super Juniors where he blew me away. One of a few guys on DDT's roster that's made me want to keep up with them more."
[0.0] "While he's "cool" he has a complete lack for selling or match structure in the pursuit of whimsy. Overpushed to high hell by DDT he ruins every serious match he's in by being not selling a damn thing."

MAO is the kind a of guy you can build a company around and DDT just keep cranking out the pro's. The anti-WWE performance center. Like the opposite. No limits. No bounds. No exceptions. DDT is where crazy goes to 'touch grass"."
[8.0] "I saw very little of MAO before this years BOSJ. But throughout the tournament, he has become a favorite of mine. Can't wait to check him out even more."
[10.0] "MAO is an exciting wrestler that I have been following since around 2017. He has grown into a real master of his craft, into someone that can put on huge matches when needed, and excels at anything you can throw at him -- mat classics, hardcore, comedy, or "some bullshit". Not to mention, he has a great character, and as such has really endeared himself to the audience. He was a key member of The37Kamiina, I am not sure they will ever be the same again with him leaving. MAO has improved immensely through his international trips too, with some great matches tagging with Mike Bailey as the Moonlight Express. DDT uses MAO well by showcasing his versatility, but I am unsure if they see him as a KO-D Openweight Champion, so some time away in NJPW could help him boost his cache within the industry. He would always be in Ueno's shadow otherwise."
[10.0] "i had to come rate mao. theres truly nobody like him for me right now. he wrestles like he belongs in one of the yakuza/like a dragon games, and its incredible. even after a knee injury hes still one of the most agile wrestlers out there. and at 26, hes only going to keep on growing and could be ddts major next star if they play their cards right"
[8.0] "I think Mao is a great wrestler. He is young, he has been in wrestling for only a few years, but has already managed to excel in this field, having established himself as a first-class performer, a good entertainer and an interesting character. His matches with Takagi are great. His performances on street shows deserve respect. I am sure that he has a great future and he deserves it. UPD: Alas, the last year and a half forced me to revise the rating. After the injury, he no longer impresses as much as before, and Mao is an exception to the rule, because usually after a series of injuries, wrestlers begin to be more methodical and smart. I love DDT comedy, even the strangest, but Mao is too flirty with the Osaka Pro style."
[9.0] "I saw Mao wrestling in London and was impressed with his athleticism and all-round ability. He combined the Japanese style with a more European one very well, and is clearly a star of the future."

He is a great mix of wacky and serious to connect with the DDT audience. His tag team with Mike Bailey is always guaranteed good matches and he always shines in a singles role.
