Hiroyoshi Tenzan

[10.0] "Amongst some mightily impressive competition, Hiroyoshi Tenzan may very well be the greatest G1 Climax performer of all time. Even if you only saw him post-injury struggles it likely came through that this guy was a special performer, as evidenced by his recent retirement match with Satoshi Kojima. Tenzan could hardly stand throughout this contest yet he had a 9 minute bout that had Sumo Hall rocking. Incredibly dependable, hard-hitting, and tremendously charismatic. Tenzan will be missed."

[10.0] "Tenzan just wrapped up his 35 year career, which spanned over 3000 matches. He was one of the most steady and dependable names from the 90's to the 2010's, giving some phenomenal matches over the years. His body really started to slow him down leading to him eventually just focusing on tag team and mentor work. His final match against Kojima showed him fighting to keep his dream alive for just a bit longer, struggling to stand yet kicking out of lariats at one, because he wasn't ready to say goodbye just yet. He gave his all until the last bell, and his retirement is well earned. Tenzan is a true legend, despite his last few years being hard to watch as his body broke down - because his prime years and his dedication to the business overshadow those in the end."

[8.0] "Just watched his official retirement match against Koji and all I've got to say is THANK YOU, TENZAN. This man watched some of the main NJPW stars leave when Inoki was doing crazy shit (as always) and got put on a spot where many wrestlers would crumble, but he managed to hold things when wrestling for NJPW didn't have any hype. Tenzan is one of the most underrated pro-wrestlers of all time, go check some of his matches with Koji, Jun and Takayama if you haven't watched him on his prime."

[9.0] "Watched some of his matches and I gotta say, he might be a bit underrated by the current fanbase. His matches against Akiyama and Tanhashi in their respective G1 Finals stood out for me. These matches were good. Obviously his lower rating is from people only seeing his broken down years. If NJPW had a hall of fame, he'd be first ballot no question."

[10.0] "Hiroyoshi tenzan the Raging bull recently announced he's retiring after a 35 year career some people here gave him a low rating but I would suggest to watch tenzan in 2000s especially in his G1 days because those who rate him low most probably only saw him in 2010s where he was affected with injuries but if you watch him in 2000s you will be shocked how different he performed back then in addition he had an amazing career being by far the best tag team wrestler in NJPW history with 12 tag title reigns and forming Cho Ten and my favorite njpw team Tencozy while he also had great singles act winning 3 G1 with each final being amazing he is also a 4 time iwgp heavyweight champion even got a reign as NWA champion even tho he slowed down in 2010s due to injuries tenzan back in his days was such a great wrestler and has such an amazing career"

[10.0] "The Wild Bull Hiroyoshi Tenzan is one of my top ten favorite wrestlers, and in my opinion even better then Kojima. Tenzan is so charismatic and has one of the best looking moonsaults in wrestling history, and one of the most awesome looking finishers with the TTD! Hiroyoshi is still insanely over with the crowd today, despite not being able to wrestle as good as he used to. His match against Jun Akiyama in in the 2003 G1 Climax finals has to be one of his absolute best."

[10.0] "One of the best New Japan wrestlers ever. He's such an old school type powerhouse who has such simplistic matches but gets so much out of them. He hits hard and is willing to get hit equally hard in return and struggle like hell the entire duration of the match."

[8.0] "Very good wrestler. Obviously now he's past it, but back in the 90s and 2000s Tenzan was the man. Really liked his look, his ability in-ring was very good too. I wouldn't say he's in contention of being on a pro-wrestling Mount Rushmore, but he played his part very well and deserves a lot of respect for what he did in NJPW."

[9.0] "Awful in his current form but still a legend, he was awesome in his prime even if his booking made him look like shit sometimes. Still delivered a lot of classics and was also a great tag team wrestler."

[8.0] "Tenzan was awesome back in his prime. Looked like a monster when he returned from his excursion and had several good matches with the more established guys. Really found his feet in the 2000's both as a singles and tag wrestler. A great fiery brawling style that got over well and was easily one of the best workers around in his prime."

[8.0] "Was a fine wrestler, obviously a legend but slighly overrated in my opinion, but his was a good main event wrestler. Nothing more, nothing less."

[10.0] "A top 10 NJPW wrestler, Hiroyoshi Tenzan is the Maim Master of NJPW. This guy had a helluva flying headbutt, his brawling style was so chaos purpose and violent, his strikes were juicy and tough, like a steak. Part of some of NJPW's greatest tag competition of all time, such as ChoTen vs GOTCHism, and Tenzan & Nishimura vs Murder Grandpa & Takayama. His series of bouts with Toshiaki Kawada (Best Pillar) and Shinsuke Nakamura where Tenzan tests Nakamura's swag by coming out with a shiny pink jacket are classic of classic."

[8.0] "Undoubtedly one of NJPW's top all-rounder in his healthy days: guy could do high level tag work, could grind in the mid-card, could pull out 60 minute classics with guys like Kojima or short snappy fights like with Sasaki. I would put him higher BUT he's always been kinda weak with singles work, never actually proven to be a main event draw: even when placed into the forefront at his biggest and against amazing talent like Akiyama or whatever he was fine: not anything great but he had a good look, strong foundation, and was solid as a brawler type with powerhouse moves, however I wouldn't say he was anything main event unless he had one wrestling with him, a hot crowd, and him in good condition. Sadly really bad back and leg issues have compromised him for the last 15 years or so: ever since the mid 2000's he's been drastically nerfed in what he can do and it's quite hard to watch him now as one of his ankles doesn't seem to go properly. He's pulled out some good hits over the years in G1's as he can play a strong underdog babyface, but he never reached the heights of his big work back then. He's definitely solid but just not my cup of tea in general, but I can respect his massive workload and how much he's done."

[9.0] "A NJPW fan favorite who could have been an all time great but was screwed over by the horrendous booking of the 2000s. Tenzan is a tag specialist with both of his team with Masahiro Chono and Satoshi Kojima being legendary tag teams in pro wrestling history. Tenzan has also achieved a lot of singles success as well. Tenzan is one of the most accomplished G1 competitors, with 3 wins to his name. Tenzan also has 4 IWGP title reigns to his name unfortunately they were all booked like shit."

[7.0] "A living legend of this business. Even though age has taken a toll on him, he has been a reliable tag team performer until a few years ago and we must not forget that, in his younger days, he was really innovative (the Anaconda Vice still looks good nowadays and the Mountain Bomb, well executed, is still a masterpiece)"

[6.0] "Tenzan was solid when he was younger. These days, he's part of the obligatory old guy stable in NJPW where he continues to take part in meaningless tag matches to exhibit his now mediocre wrestling skills."

[5.0] "The gripes I have with Tenzan are the same gripes I have with Makabe - he doesn't do much, and what he does doesn't look particularly good, even though he is slightly better. I like his look, I'll give him that."

[9.0] "Tenzan is a legend, who I think have done good work as a Singles as well as Tag team wrestler. His tag team with Satoshi Kojima is one of the best tag teams in Japan for a very long time."

[3.0] "Maybe Tenzan was once great. I really don't know, I haven't seen him in his prime. But my perspective on him as an avid watcher of NJPW since the start of their iPPV era is that he should not still be wrestling. He looks like, in his younger days, he was probably the archetypical stiff striker that puro was built around. But that's sure not how he wrestles in the present. He's slow and plodding, his offense is poor, and he's not charismatic. And oh my god do I hate his hair. There's just nothing I feel particularly interested in about the match when he's in the ring."

[2.0] "I don't get Tenzan... His matches are boring. Are you having trouble sleeping? Try watching a Tenzan match. There is nothing interesting about his character, his look is goofy, and his move set is filled with boring maneuvers that look awkward. How is this guy a legend?"

[9.0] "Tenzan maybe getting older and his body seems to be breaking down more often, but i always enjoyed his work. I hope he does wrestle for at least 1 more year."
