[4.0] "The guy who tried to reanimate his career in Indi, not just finish and be a slash in the history. I respect him and his work, maybe he's not that talented, but he's not bad as Titus."

Once he made it to the main roster, he never really brought much to the game. Once leaving WWE, he started finding a bit of success & started to win fans over. I suppose he got better with time. But eventually he petered out."

Hope he stays with NJPW and gets to work with some of their top talent both in the US and in Japan. Another example of somebody whose post WWE career is so much better than his WWE career under the creative control of Vince McMahon"

TripleCrown wrote on 17.03.2024:
[4.0] "Was struggling to choose between 3 and 4. Decided to go with 4 because I think 3 is too low for him, but he's the definition of a generic wrestler. He isn't very good at promos, he doesn't have a look, his ability in-ring is very average, you'd be crazy to think he could put on a 5 star match with anybody. Was the better partner in Prime Time Players, had a really strange gimmick with Bob Backlund. Will give him credit for doing something for himself post WWE, but that's as far as my praise will go. Average wrestler."

[7.0] "Best known to most TV viewers as Darren Young from WWE. Got released from WWE in 2017. He was one-half of the Prime Time Players, a team I grew more disappointed in due to the comedic presentation and losing record. After WWE, Rosser's singles career became more credible with more serious matches. His physical appearance and in-ring performance vastly improved and looked more convincing as a competitor. I'm glad he's signed with a company again and hope he enjoys his time in NJPW."

His work there didn't set the world on fire in the ring and he didn't really have the charisma either. He's really stepped up since popping up in NJPW though and puts on consistently decent matches."

He may not still be a top tier worker or a killer on the mic, but he has the ability to connect to the fans and that's what made him a staple of NJPW STRONG. Hopefully people continue to realize that he's gotten better."

[7.0] "Yea, Fred Rosser is way better now as a performer than this score currently suggests. He's having a good run on NJPW Strong atm. This dude had an awesome banger against Tom Lawlor a couple of months ago for the NJPW Strong Openweight title, and his mic work is fairly good atm. I might not be a fan of Rosser personally, but the dude should really be reevaluated again in 2022 since he's not the inexperienced (tag) guy from several years ago anymore."

[8.0] "Currently sitting at 4.65, I completely understand why Fred Rosser was slept on by a majority of the IWC. While his work in the WWE was serviceable at best, I think his current run in NJPW (and by extension, his few appearances in the NWA) has shown he made great progress. Sitting as the current NJPW STRONG Openweight Champion, Fred Rosser completely changed himself from his WWE days and greatly elevated his performance. His character as a "tough love locker room leader" is really compelling to follow and make a great contrast compared to the typical baby faces who usually leads a brand. His feud against Tom Lawlor (himself, among my favorites) and his team was also interesting to follow and lead to a great series of matches. While I understand he isn't t to anyone's taste, his great progress as a wrestler is undeniable and Fred Rosser showed to me that he can easily lead the USA branch of NJPW."

But now, I see him on the Shin Nihon mat, and this guy is a Psycho MadMan! ~ Mr. No Days Off certainly takes his nickname to the Heart, and to all you out there who rate him low, I have but one thing to say to you... #BlocktheHAte. In all seriousness, if you're a fan who didn't like his gimmicks in the NY Fed, you will be in a surprise of your life if you watch him in the ring now; If you want Strongstyle Strikes, he can give you those in spades! But Also, if you want that NOAH Brand of Kings Road Pro, he truly walks the Royal Road, with his Takeshi Morishima slobberknockers. A Multifaceted Athlete. If you step into the squared circle with this Psycho MadMan, and you're not ready, I'm sorry for you."

Perfect at 10 minute matches or less, funny, charismatic, good on the mic and is truly one of the most likeable people in the wrestling industry. His work on NXT Season 1 and NJPW Strong is genuinely really good."

In New Japan he's been able to show his skills as a wrestler with an older school style that isn't as common as it was before. NJPW US doesn't have competitors of the same callibre as that of New Japan in Japan, but with time there, he can definitely stand out and kill it. Right now, he's done a good job separating himself from his WWE days."

[4.0] "All the props to Young for coming out, and he was a solid ambassador for the company while he was there. However, Young was the definition of mediocre in his run in the company. In any of his partnerships, he was always overshadowed (by Titus and Backlund) and he wasn't too impressive in the ring to warrant anything other than a tag team specialist role. But his the first wrestler to pick his hair mid-match so that's nice."
ErycK24 wrote on 02.05.2017:
[5.0] "Hopefully this current make Darren great again gimmick elevates young. Young has little to no mic skills that's why I have him rated a 5. Young has good in ring work at times but is inconsistent. Edit: So far this gimmick is getting him over with the crowd."
Astraeus wrote on 04.11.2016:
[4.0] "Darren Young is not a bad wrestler, but he's punishingly generic. The man is decent in the ring, decent on the microphone, decently charismatic -- and unfortunately, utterly forgettable. There's nothing offensive about Young, but there's little to recommend him. He lacks superstar quality, and after a number of attempt to get over under several gimmicks, the time may have come and passed. I don't expect he'll be released anytime soon, especially with the good publicity he provides the company. I doubt, though, that he'll ever rise above the midcard. The Prime Time Players showed how Young can be utilized best -- as a tag-team specialist whose act was enhanced by a more confident and charismatic partner. Perhaps he was paired with Bob Backlund for the same reason, but that hasn't worked out nearly as well."
Titansrevenger wrote on 18.09.2016:
[4.0] "This guy is lame. He cannot tell a good story in the ring and is very sub-par. I think the WWE should either stick him in a tag team or job him out until they release his ass. A very Jim Powers or Z-Man level wrestler which is average and generic."
Damian wrote on 23.08.2016:
[7.0] "Darren Young is an underrated member of WWE's midcard. I ain't saying that he is great, but he is a useful hand that can be successful when he is pushed alongside someone else (Backlund or Titus). Oh, he also has two of the best finishers in the roster!"
Brandon Picha wrote on 09.08.2016:
[7.0] "Darren Young shouldn't have so many low reviews. I understand that most of them were before his re-debut, but he has really improved under the whole "Make Darren Young Great Again" gimmick. He's showing real potential, and although he's not there yet, he could be a top mid-card superstar pretty soon."
AMHTP wrote on 21.06.2016:
[4.0] "I find Darren Young to be painfully generic. He's improved in the ring since his unimpressive debut skillset, but he's never stood out in any sense and still seems awkward in front of a microphone. It's not that he's an awful wrestler; he occasionally seems befuddled or sloppy in the ring but he isn't a dangerous worker or anything. It's just that he has absolutely nothing to specially recommend him. His look, his moves, his vague and undefined character... the only bit of interest he's ever generated has been due to his life outside the ring. I applaud him for coming out of the closet; wrestling has always been a tough business and often a homophobic one. But Young was never able to turn even the best of press into a memorable moment or angle."
Hurin wrote on 04.08.2015:
[7.0] "I think Darren Young has really come into his own with the Prime Time Players by playing off of the natural charisma of Titus O'Neil. He's a fine in ring wrestler, nothing mind blowing but not bad by any stretch. Plays a good babyface in peril on a tag team so I think he's in the perfect role for him right now."
PWC wrote on 21.06.2015:

Torshavn wrote on 30.10.2014:
[4.0] "The problem with Darren Young is that he doesn't stand out. He doesn't have a move that makes you go "WOW, that was cool! ", has a very standard look and lacks mic skills. Being in a tag team covered up his weaknesses, but apparently the WWE are planning on using him as a singles competitor. However, it's worth noting that he did work on his look since getting injured, and I'm looking forward to seeing his return to the ring. I'd love for him to improve in the ring and prove me wrong, and I'd really like to raise my rating for this guy!"
