He has a certain uniqueness to his character that he can make you believe that he actually IS this violent, and unpredictable psycho without coming across as corny or overdone. His run in WWE as Dean Ambrose was good at times, still leaving a lot to be desired though in terms of match quality"

He's also an overexposed and self indulgent who is such a mark for himself he entered a legit BJJ tournament and was soundly beaten. Mox loves the territories and thinks of himself as that kind of old school tough guy. If Verne Gagne or Bill Watts had seen him lose like that not only would he have been fired but also blackballed for being weak and rightfully so. If you're trying to portray yourself as a wild bad ass, that's not going to cut it. He also cuts the same promos regardless of who his opponent is. He's seemingly incapable of having a feud without a belt at stake, like Hogan, and never loses until there's no storyline choice, like Hogan."

[9.0] "Not my cup of tea in terms of wrestling style, but it works. He's adaptable to any other styles of wrestling and has formed this unique blend of technical wrestling with hardcore wrestling deep down. But I REALLY respect him for being the ace/leader of AEW backstage and being sober."

This puts Moxley at a kind of consistency that some promotions struggle to meet on their pay-per-views. Moxley's a box of Milwaukee brand tools. They're sturdy, not flashy; versatile, but still somewhat limited. This isn't a critique. Is he perfect? No. But on my (abridged) rewatch of his Death Riders world title reign, I got it. I was furious at it initially. Moxley was cruel, cowardly, sneaky, but undeniably still had the ability to hold the world title. Booking got weird in a couple spots, but he was not the problem. All that said, Moxley's got the grit to stick around for a few more years. If you want to talk about people slowing down, look elsewhere - for now, he's a 9/10."

But I am willing to give Moxley some credit his run as AEW Continental Champion as been great and I kind of been enjoying the death riders here and there."

[9.0] "JON MOXLEY (NJPW) - 9.5/10 , JON MOXLEY (AEW) - 9/10 and DEAN AMBROSE - 8. 5/10 . Dean Ambrose had superb mic skills, one of the best in the business and really good in-ring ability. He was never really the guy in WWE and was underutilized but he didn't falter when he was given the spotlight. In 2019, after his WWE exit, he repackaged himself as Jon Moxley whose debut in AEW and New Japan created a lot of buzz. In particular, I loved his entry in New Japan , he brought a fresh form of wrestling and violence in New Japan, had excellent feuds with the likes of Suzuki, Archer, Ishii, Juice Robinson, etc and he gave some of his best perfomances in his short run at Japan. His run AEW run has also been great although the bloodwork in his matches feel a little too much and many times unnecessary, his reign as the World Champion after beating Bryan Dnaielson was really bad although his last defense during the same reign was amazing. He is the guard of AEw, whenever they need someone to step up, it's this guy, he is the one holding everything together and keeping AEW afloat during their bad times."

[10.0] "The absolute ACE of the dub. He had enough self respect to leave WWE after the constant disrespect after his world title scene, dare I say after the S.H.I.E.L.D. He was great in the ring, and he only got better. Moxley can literally do everything, if someone told me Mox could fly, I'd believe them. People say he's slowing down, but I don't see it, it's absolutely untrue. Moxley is a peak performer, iconic, has an amazing entrance, is (was) in amazing factions (DR and SHIELD). All of Moxley matches are absolutely entertaining and the best level of wrestling. Mox transcends the game."

[10.0] "LOL I gavce Moxley a 0.0 during his Death Riders world title reign, understandably. But post-title, there's been no one killing it and crushing it like he has. Even without the main title he can feel like the most important dude on any card. And he's just full of aura that many try to replicate but no one can. He really feels Austin-esque where he's just some older, bald, and unconventionally attractive dude, but he's also the coolest motherfucker ever in his own right. AEW is doing a lot of good right now, but whenever Moxley is on the card you gotta highlight it."

[9.0] "Jon Moxley is one of those wrestlers where I think the character, the performer and the philosophy behind the wrestling all have to be considered together. I'm giving Moxley a 9 because, for me, he represents something that professional wrestling desperately needs: a wrestler who genuinely feels like himself. There is very little artificiality to Jon Moxley. Whether he is working in WWE as Dean Ambrose, in AEW as Jon Moxley, or wrestling on the independent scene, there is always a sense that you are watching the same person underneath the character. The biggest strength of Moxley is his authenticity. He has an intensity that is difficult to manufacture. When he walks through the curtain, he doesn't need an elaborate entrance or a complicated character explanation. His body language, facial expressions and mannerisms immediately communicate who he is. He looks like somebody who genuinely enjoys fighting, and that gives his matches an entirely different energy. I also think Moxley is significantly better in the ring than he sometimes gets credit for. He is not a traditional technical wrestler, and he is certainly not trying to be one. His style is based around aggression, physicality, emotion and creating the impression that the match is a fight rather than a performance. When it works, it works incredibly well. His best matches feel violent without violence becoming the entire point. One thing I particularly appreciate about Moxley is his willingness to adapt. He can have a bloody hardcore match with one opponent and then have a completely different kind of match with a technical wrestler. He has worked with Bryan Danielson, Kenny Omega, CM Punk, Eddie Kingston, Claudio Castagnoli and countless others, and he has demonstrated an ability to adjust his style depending on the person standing across from him. His work with Eddie Kingston is especially interesting to me because there is a genuine emotional quality to their rivalry. Neither man needs to explain why the match matters. Their histories, personalities and chemistry do most of the work. That is wrestling at its best: two characters with believable reasons to fight, rather than two wrestlers simply exchanging moves because the company needs a main event. Moxley's work in AEW also deserves enormous credit. He was one of the people who helped establish the identity of the company during its first years. When AEW needed somebody who could immediately feel like a major star, Moxley was there. He became one of the company's defining figures almost immediately and remained relevant through multiple eras and changes in the roster. I also respect the fact that Moxley has never seemed particularly interested in fitting into a conventional definition of what a wrestling superstar should be. He doesn't need to be polished. He doesn't need to look like a superhero. He doesn't need to behave like a corporate spokesperson. His appeal comes from the fact that he feels dangerous, unpredictable and slightly unhinged. However, that same philosophy is also why I can't give him a 10. Moxley can sometimes go too far into the idea of wrestling as a fight. There are matches where the brutality becomes repetitive and where the psychology gets lost underneath the blood, weapons and physical punishment. I also think his technical wrestling is not at the level of someone like Bryan Danielson, and his match quality can fluctuate depending on the opponent and the story. There are also moments where I think Moxley relies too heavily on the same visual language: bleeding, brawling, weapons, forearms and an almost endless willingness to absorb punishment. Those things are part of his identity, but they can become predictable when overused. Still, I think his strengths far outweigh those weaknesses. Moxley has something that cannot be taught in a wrestling school: presence. You can give somebody the same entrance music, the same booking and the same amount of television time, and they still wouldn't necessarily feel like Jon Moxley. That is the mark of a great professional wrestler. He is also one of those wrestlers who makes his opponents feel important. That's an underrated quality. A great wrestler isn't just somebody who has great matches; it's somebody who makes the person standing across from him look like they belong in that match. Jon Moxley isn't my perfect wrestler. He has flaws, and I don't think every hardcore match automatically becomes a great match simply because it is bloody or violent. But when Moxley is at his best, he creates wrestling that feels urgent, personal and unpredictable. For me, that's worth a 9. Jon Moxley is not wrestling's most technically gifted performer, nor is he the most spectacular. But he is one of the most authentic, charismatic and distinctive wrestlers of his generation. And in an industry where so many performers can sometimes feel manufactured, being unmistakably yourself is an enormous strength."

[6.0] "I thought this site was for smart wrestling fans. I jest, but I mean come on, this is insane. Let's look at the numbers here. 120 sub-7 ratings and (wipes eyes) 500+ ratings for Jon Moxley being a perfect, doubt unshadowed, 10 out of 10 professional wrestler. Somebody is off their tits. I'll just say this. If Moxley went back to WWE, it would be the smartest and the dumbest thing he could ever do for his career. Smart because he could return to a style that isn't stupid and would have legit million dollar feuds waiting for him in Roman, Seth, Punk, Cody, Danhausen, etc. "Dumb" because every single one of his die-hard marks would never swallow whatever Mox fed them in terms of an explanation. If it were to happen, I can't see his fans reacting any other way than "liar, hypocrite, sellout, fraud, and on and on and on." To paraphrase an anonymous joker that knows a thing or two about wrestling, Moxley has the same match every match. Most of his shit looks bad, and when it doesn't, it looks stiff and painful. None of it makes much sense if you're expecting to watch a competitive wrestling match. His promos ramble and fail to make clear, concise points. On a personal level, I stopped watching AEW a month ago because I could not stand the love triangle angle between Moxley, Ospreay, and Omega. I couldn't help it. I felt like a dumber person for watching it. I don't even dislike Moxley, I think he's one of the better workers in AEW when he puts it on, but it's like the more he cares, the less he tries. Or maybe he just doesn't give a Shit anymore. Not that it matters but I don't remember Dean Ambrose doing a single trading forearms exchange in seven years on TV. Do better Mox fans. Get that 10 on 10 up to a thousand ratings. Let's go! Oh shit, I forgot to mention uhhhhhh Moxley is no Mick Foley. Name a wrestler who was undeniably in a better spot after wrestling Moxley in AEW... I'll wait."

[5.0] "Some of the worst strikes in the business, which he uses a lot of (which makes it worse). He also doesn't sell or really register strikes well either. Gets lazy about spot calling or any sleight of hand with things like blading (which he does so much it's lost it's meaning). He doesnt sell well throughout matches, his in ring storytelling is spotty. He uses yarder-level gimmicks and weapons to be interesting. From a charisma/promo perspective he's the Nicholas Cage of wrestling. Whatever ridiculous thing he's saying/doing, he gives it 110%. Problem is he can veer off into goofy/parody and it's not intentional. Not awful but not great. He's kind of a caricature of a mid 2000s CZW wrestler but with a better physique."

[10.0] "Among all the small club of guys who are born into it, a small handful actually manage to make it. Even for those who are trained to wrestle since they were in diapers, told how to speak in front of a big audience and given a hundred auditions off the back of their name, it's still a 1 in 100 shot. That's what makes you love the 1-in-a-millions. The ones who treat it as a religion and manage to extract something out of decades of toiling. You love the Foleys, Hardys, Danielsons, Punks, and Briscoes because they represent you and the hundreds of indie guys who never got a shot. Moxley is the epitome of that guy. A shitty deathmatch/comedy indie guy who got his reps, made it to the top of WWE, fucked them off, landed in NJPW, and became the ace of the next national promotion in AEW. Hate him if you want (and i have) but it's few and far between in the 2020s with his catalogue and eternal ability to stay over without the WWE machine behind him."

When he speaks, you believe every word because there's no artificial polish just raw, unfiltered intensity. He doesn't play a character he simply amplifies his own gritty reality. That authenticity is the heart of AEW. Whenever the company has found itself in the crap, whether dealing with backstage drama, injuries, or the shifting of momentum, Moxley has consistently stepped up as the undisputed ace, carrying the promotion on his back without a second thought. I always remember a Promo, either when Punk left or got injured where he said i guess i am not taking a holiday. That was the moment i think it all changed. He embodies the exact alternative spirit that AEW was built to represent when it began. While others may hold titles or claim the spotlight with flashy maneuvers, Jon Moxley provides the soul. He is the standard-bearer, thelocker room, and the truest representation of what makes the promotion what it is."

He's got his ride-or-dies and everyone else is more-or-less ambivalent on him in my observation. He's never really been my cup of tea, personally. I'm not gonna shy away from watching one of his matches but whether it's as AEW's top heel or as wacky Dean Ambrose I have yet to see him put on a performance that'd I'd rate at higher than a seven or lower than a four."

A reminder the guy can d it all, despite how anyone may feel about his presence or character, his adaptability is worth noting. A worthwhile main-eventer, someone who is still a mega-star and who can draw the love or ire of a crowd with relative ease, he's simply one of the best at the craft. A lot of the storyline stuff with him hasn't hit for me, and that keeps him from a 10 but, the longer the Death Riders go? The better they, and he, get. I've enjoyed it more year-by-year than any longterm faction like this so, who knows. I'm optimisitc, as Jon has given me ample reason to be."

[7.0] "Moxley is super hit-or-miss for me, he can have great matches and cut great promos. But he has terrible tendencies, the forearm exchange, the kickouts at one, and the worst of hardcore wrestling. But, he's a completely believable ass-kicker, he often cuts a great promo, he has a weird charisma about him like absolutely no one else. He could be an all-time great, but (for me) many of his quirks are the prime example of the worst of AEW."

One of the best brawlers of this generation, unbelievably passionate for professional wrestling, cuts excellent promos, a true locker room leader. Does he over-rely on blood too much, sure, but that's almost become his character. Whether he was the lunatic fringe in WWE, a comedy character, or one third of one of the greatest factions in WWE history, Jon Moxley is a superb wrestler who absolutely deserves his flowers. 9/10 wrestler, truly one of North America's greats"

[10.0] "I think it's safe to say that Jon Moxley is the greatest AEW wrestler, he just fits so perfectly in this environment. I know ppl were down on him during his 4th title reign but he bounced back from it in amazing fashion"

[6.0] "I want to rate him very highly for the sheer volume of work he does and his professionalism. He's a good promo, he has a distinct and consistent character, and he always build up his opponents during a feud. But as much as I admire many aspects of his work, there are a couple things that bug me overall. His wrestling style is limited to really only brawling, which puts him down a tier when compared to the handful of top guys who can wrestle five star classics in ANY style. He sells poorly. His character work is maybe a little TOO consistent, to the point of redundancy. But most of all, he needs to LOSE MORE, and lose cleanly. He is far too protected, and I cannot understand why. Vastly superior in ring athletes like Danielson and Omega lose, or have lost, many times in comparison. 2026 update: I'm so fatigued of this dude, man. He did some genuinely good work at the very tail end of his reign of terror with the belt, but goddamn am I tired of this man's goofy character work all over the place, and once again winning ALL THE FUCKING TIME."

"My all time favourite wrestler; I did only come across him during the early shield days of WWE and then he left and life got busy - I found him again in the middle of last year and really found my enjoyment against with the wrestler and the company of AEW. I've really enjoyed the death riders story, even if there has been dips involved but overall, really amazing and enjoyable. His promos are just extraordinary and he's way too funny."

[7.0] "Feels like a parody of a tough guy to me, I'm totally allergic to his overblown hyperbadass persona. I wish there was some sense of him having fun or maybe winking a bit with it (like Savage or Hogan) but as it is, he tries so hard that I end up nitpicking his nonsensical promos apart and am left totally cold. As a wrestler, can be hit or miss for me, but I'm rarely interested to see him on camera. Edit in 2026: the above review was written at the nadir of his world championship run... bumping him up a little because I think he's much more tolerable in the last year than he was during that run. TK still insists on him wrestling and winning too much, but I'm not as annoyed by that as I used to be."

[5.0] "Revised 2026: I wasn't a huge fan of Moxley at the start of his AEW run. I found his unstoppable badass character boring and stupidly overprotected, and his wrestling to be some times debatable, but as time went on I came to appreciate other aspects of his which made me more tolerant of his character as a whole. Unfortunately, he seems to have Tony Khan by the balls, and any accusations of potential power abuse that have been leveled at other top guys over the years probably should've been leveled towards Moxley instead. Moxley continues to rarely lose, which makes him an outlier in a company where multiple top guys who far exceed Moxley's in-ring talent (Ospreay, Swerve, Omega, Danielson, Hangman) are all obviously generous in how they view wins and losses. But poor old Moxley just cant be seen as weak. If he loses more than once a year he might need to do some actual character work besides just shrugging his shoulders and spitting into the camera about how hardcore and badass he is. It is beyond played out at this point, Moxley is stale and actively driving away my interest in the product."

[8.0] "Moxley was my favorite wrestler when he was in WWE, was sad when he left, but he's been thriving in AEW. However, when he created the death riders, he was on his worst run ever, literally had a horrible title reign that lasted way too long and was having horrible match after horrible match. All of a sudden, after his reign ended, he just started putting work in again and had great matches towards the end of 2025. When Mox isn't lazy, he's great in the ring and is great on the mic."

[9.0] "High highs, low lows. His peak is some of the best professional wrestling you'll ever see, his worst is stuff that will make you want to change the channel and never watch again. I had him at 10 before, but I don't think I can keep him there anymore with those lows I mentioned being so poor."

[7.0] "Moxley is an all around good wrestler and my favorite SHIELD guy, but he's gotten to the point of being overexposed in AEW and quite frankly it's just annoying seeing and hearing him doing the same things every week front and center. His title reigns in AEW have always felt underwhelming and the DR reign in 2025 went on far too long and produced very little entertainment. And the hard-ass unbeatable punch drunk act wears thin when done over and over and over (particularly in the promos). I get he's a reliable and recognizable guy but there's a point of overdoing it. Still like the guy but he's not the face of the company to me nor should be pushed as such."

"Jon moxley is changed wrestling in 2019 when he debuted at AEW which attracted many and brought alternative to the business and still being wrestling week to week as workhouse compare to any other top tier who only wrestling in rarely in TV. Heart and soul of AEW because he saved AEW in many times such as covid 19 pandemic as champ and when CM punk tries to selfishly kill the company it always MOXLEY held the responsibility maintaining what AEW Today"

[3.0] "He's actively making my viewing experience worse. The idea of the Mox character is far superior to what we actually see on tv. As a worker, he's nothing special. He works a lot of 3.25* tv matches and his ppv matches are hit or miss. However this rating is fueled by the first sentence. His feud with Darby took up more tv time than Hangman as champ, burying that run. He didn't want to disband the death riders, undermining Darby's initial mission. He lost to Kyle O'Reilly but it was more about him than the guy winning. He essentially derailed any interesting progression in the DCF angle by winning the C2 over the other 3 and turning face/tweener (more on that). He made Ace Austin look bad in the continental eliminator match. Beat Takeshita at revolution (after beating Fletcher and Okada at Worlds End). He then beats Will after putting him out of action but has positioned himself as an incoherent tweener who will get no comeuppance. Instead he's training the guy who he injured. The same guy who's supposed to be the big babyface at the big show? What is this nonsense. Now we have Will being bossed around by his lackeys who have not improved since joining the group. What is this character? What is this story? EDIT: The only person who's benefitted from working with Mox is Marina (that's just more tv time tbh). He's a black hole."

[9.0] "genuinely love Mox and all the work he's done throughout his whole career, really fond of his work in njpw but even more at aew obviously, absolute workhorse too, you see him every week doing some crazy stuff or pushing stories, pushing new talents"

"He might be controversial but I just love his style. It's not the cleanest or heaviest or fastest or whatever, but I think he represents what a good brawler/bruiser archetype should be. The face of AEW for sure."

[4.0] "Jon Moxley is insanely overrated at this point. His act got old in 2022. Sloppy, unconvincing offense. Fake tough act that is cringe. Too much blading. Terrible physique. I always feel like I'm watching a bad indie show when he comes on. On top of that, he's way too protected. I get protecting him early on since he was the most well known names, but he still rarely ever puts guys over cleanly. His promos are mostly rambling nonsense that people pretend is deep. I firmly believe AEW would be a better product to sit through without him. He isn't needed anymore."

[9.0] "I love Jon Moxley so much. The heart and soul of AEW is on the best run of his career right now. He has had some bad stretches (WWE in 2018/19, Early 2025), which is why he's not a 10, but besides that, Mox is just so damn good. Amazing face, amazing heel, great in ring, great on the mic. He is someone who would've worked in any era of wrestling, which is not something you can say for many guys and gals today."

[10.0] "For whatever reason, there's people out there who have convinced themselves that Jon Moxley is a bad wrestler and I have no idea why. In my view, Mox is the best wrestler of the 2020s decade by far and his work over the past six years has put him up there as one of my favourites of all time. I don't think there is anyone in the world who is more dedicated to his craft than Mox is. Week in and week out he turns in fantastic performance against pretty much everyone he faces whether that be in a tag or singles setting and elevates everyone he's in the ring with. His character work is also fantastic too. One only has to look at his run from All In to World's End last year as he spends 6 months going from the most hated heel in the world to being embraced by the fans when he wins the C2. His WWE career is a bit hit or miss, maybe a bit more miss than hit honestly. His stuff with the Shield is obviously great and he did some good singles work with the likes of AJ Styles and Kevin Owens but his booking was very poor a lot of the time and I don't think he was a very good fit for that company anyway. In AEW though, he's fully realised his potential and ever since 2019 id say he's consistently been in the conversation as being one of the best wrestlers in the world. I love Mox, and I simply can't understand those who feel the opposite."

[9.0] "Jon Moxley is the result of a promotion genuinely seeing the potential in a talent and allowing them to realise it, rather than conforming them to the character of a comedy wrestler (*ahem* WWE *ahem*). My favourite matches are his are the ones where there's no holds barred, because he brings a level of violence to said matches that most wrestlers cannot match. The Texas Death Match between him and Hangman Page at All In was spectacular."

[6.0] "Since joining AEW this is the lowest I have ever given Jon Moxley but this rating is solely based on his 2026 performances which are good but not good enough to get him a higher rating. Also , he never has had good mic skills regardless of what promotion he was part of"

[9.0] "As a kid, I liked watching him when he was Dean Ambrose. As an adult, I still like Dean Ambrose, but boy do I love Jon Moxley. He's a pure workhorse who shows up every week, does great promos, has good matches, and he makes you feel interested into what he's doing. You can make an argument for him being the best Shield member of the trio because he's still going full-time, running with his own group on 2+ shows per week."

[8.0] "Jon Moxley is the perfect example of a great wrestler hurt by some very questionable booking. The way AEW protects him is incredibly annoying to deal with. He no sold 3 orange punches at one point, that's absurd. He was the first person to kick out of the raging fire. He wins matches that he shouldn't be winning. His matches have also become very predictable as of late. They're not bad performances by any means, but it's getting stale. I still have a ton of respect for him as a performer because he's done a ton for AEW and has an unbelievably high dedication to pro wrestling."
