In the late '90s, he was a shell of his former self, out of shape a lot of the time. His last WCW run with Hennig as his partner wasn't terrible, but it could have been better."

[8.0] "A second generation superstar, Barry Windham was a prototype wrestler back in the 80s, very tall man, with a texan attitude, a long blonde hair, great physique, very strong, he had all the tools, and in his prime he was fantastic, great puncher, great finishing moves, a very imposing figure. I think that by the time around the Flair feud, he was truly ready to be the NWA World Heavyweight Champion, he was super over with the crowds. Barry is a fantastic tag team wrestler as well, one of the most fun guys to watch, he could've been much more than he was in his career."

Windham had many great matches, facing off with Ric Flair in some of his best matches and some of the very best War Games matches."

[8.0] "Barry Windham was a damn good wrestler. In my honest opinion Barry is in the category of a guys that are so natural in the ring that it looks as if they were born to do this.I have heard it said by various luminaries in the business that Barry unfortunately shortchanged his own career by having his passion wane every so often but nevertheless Barry still had a very good career. Especially in early 1990s WCW when there were a ton of moving parts creatively, Barry could be counted on to deliver a good match; be it singles or tag bouts. The less said about his run in the WWF the better. Like many territory guys who were more understated "wrasslin" personalities, Barry unfortunately fell by the wayside during the bombast of the late 90s era. However, that shouldn't detract from Barry being one of the best all around workers in an era full of great workers."

[8.0] "Windham's best match was against Ric Flair in early '86 and was voted the best match of the year. Had some success as the U.S Express with IRS as the WWF tag team champions back in 1985. Was more successful in Crockett promotions and was one of the best wrestlers of the 1980s. His 1988 heel turn was legendary and should be placed in the top 10 or top 5. His 1990s run wasn't good as his '80s run. Although he did become World Champion in 1993. Anything past 1993 is not recommended to watch, Avoid The Stalker, Blackjacks, and The West Texas Rednecks."
Giantfan1980 wrote on 01.06.2023:
[6.0] "Best as a tag team wrestler IMHO. He had some success in singles but most of his success came in Crockett/WCW. His WWF days were mediocre to say the least! Aside from being a tag champ in 85, he came back in 1989 but had to leave because of family issues and if you went to the bathroom you missed his Widowmaker tenure. Then he came back in late 96 as the lousy Stalker, then people clued in that might be an offensive gimmick and he started copying his Dad's Black Jack Gimmick that went nowhere. His last big hurrah was joining up with Hennig back in WCW in the tag division and they held the belts and the last thing of note for him was the West Texas Rednecks. Injuries eventually forced him into retirement but he had a pretty successful career. Best as a Horsemen or teaming with Dustin Rhodes or somebody else. His singles pushes in the WWF were the drizzling shits!"

[9.0] "One of wrestling's most glaring "what if's". What if Barry Windham stayed as hot as his 87-88 run well into the late 90's? He would be on the "almost Mount Rushmore". What if that remained true and his work carried over into the 2000's? "GOAT" fodder. What if Barry never left Crockett post Turner sale, or if Barry stayed in the WWF while his father & brother dealt with their legal matters? What if Barry worked out EVER? What if what if what if... All we know is, in the 80's there was arguably none better, but even by the mid 90's he just didn't have *IT* anymore. 8.5 rounded up because his "good" work is F#CKING STELLAR, too bad a whole point & a half has to be deducted because of the reality of his career."

Unfortunately his failed WWF stint killed a lot of his buzz and as the mid 90s came around he let his body fall apart and it just seemed like he stopped caring. Regardless, the first 10 years or so of his career speak for themselves and are timeless."

[8.0] "I loved Barry as a kid getting into pro wrestling in the early 90's. I've seen his work in Florida, JCP, WWF, WCW and feel he could've been a much bigger star. He could cut intense promos, I bought into his heel turns. At some point in the mid-to-late 90's Barry seemed to give up on being anything more than a space filler, which was painful as a fan of his. He never had a true top run and that's a real shame because, had JCP decided to go with him in '86 or '87, rather than the pitiful Ron Garvin title reign, he could have done some big business for them."

His three matches with Flair set a new standard for North American wrestling for years to come. Unfortunately, his work in the late 90s pulled his score down from perfection."

[9.0] "Having wrestlers in your family can help you big time. Windham had wrestling in his genes. His father was the big Blackjack Mulligan and brother Kendall Windham. He was great at a lot of stuff in ring like in-ring psychology, fighting style and charisma. He started off young and did very successful. People would argue who was better Blackjack or Barry? Kendall was not that successful. He had many peaks in his career in Florida, Mid-Atlantic, WWE and especially WCW. A member of the Four Horseman and teaming up with his brother in law Mike Rotunda to win the WWE tag tittles.. He was very good at the role of babyface and heel. Many great feuds. He had crappy gimmicks with the Yellow Dog, Widowmaker (WTF), Stalker and West Texan Rednecks. Blackjack gimmick was not too bad but the original Blackjacks were great. He should be in WWE Hall of Fame or any other wrestling hall of fame. he is impeccable."

But he's still got so many huge moments, particularly in NWA and WCW who always gave him a great shot to do his thing. Completely versatile and able to fill just about any role, the man stands out in every match he is in."

His main asset was probably his inhuman stamina, his main weakness in the ring - sometimes he looked a little bit sloppy."
