Not a chance you could do that today and probably inflicted not insubstantial damage to others. Much better than his usual tag partner and was very much of his day mid - latter ECW."

[7.0] "Balls Mahoney wasn't about finesse or psychology. He was about swinging chairs, breaking bodies, and giving the fans exactly what they came to see. In a world of high-flyers and technical wizards, Balls was the unapologetic, heavy-handed brawler who brought the violence and made the crowd erupt with every chair shot to the skull. His wild-eyed charisma and everyman energy made him a fan favorite in ECW, despite never holding a major singles title. What made Balls special wasn't his in-ring ability, which was limited but effective. It was his connection with the crowd. When his entrance music hit and fans chanted "Balls! Balls! Balls! " it was pure ECW magic. He made you feel like you were watching a bar fight, and that was exactly what people wanted. He wasn't trying to out-wrestle anyone. He was there to brawl, bleed, and give you a moment you'd never forget. Balls could also sell when needed. His matches with the Dudleys, RVD, and Tanaka showed he was more than just a swinging weapon. He could take brutal punishment and still rally the fans behind him. His tag team with Axl Rotten as the Hardcore Chair Swingin' Freaks was exactly what it promised -- violent, fun, and unpolished in the best way possible. Even when ECW folded and Balls made brief appearances in WWECW revival, the fans still loved him. He was a symbol of what made the original ECW special. Gritty, real, chaotic, and lovable in his own filthy, blood-soaked way. Balls Mahoney was never going to be a five-star worker, but he didn't need to be. He was a hardcore icon who gave fans everything they wanted, every time he stepped through the curtain. A cult legend who wore his heart, and his scars, on his sleeve."

Everything he did was sloppy and his trademark is carrying a chair around and usually being the one getting hit with it. He gets a point for being semi-decent in SMW as Boo Bradley. He still wasn't that good but it was a great gimmick for that territory."

" Balls Mahoney answered a question no one asked, as a hardcore wrestler he was middle of the road, but injuring his opponents with hard chair shots and being a repulsive human being in every sense of the word, makes him one of my least favorite wrestlers of all time."

That's where my love for him comes in, a fellow Immolation appreciator who no doubt caught them on their "Failures for Gods" tour (or at least became a fan around then) - how can I not love him? Oh yah, the complete lack of actual work rate. Jerry Lynn mentioned to me that he always wanted to do a "Death Metal Death Match" with Balls, as Immolation played behind them. Paul E said it was "Too extreme, even for EXTREME Championship Wrestling". Had this match ever taken place, we'd be looking at a far higher rating. As it stands, ....nah. Not a fan. Check out Immolation though, Balls knew good music. 2.5"

[6.0] "Balls' style is, admittedly, not for everyone. Especially considering his gimmick mostly revolved around braining people with brutal chair shots to the head (when he wasn't taking them himself), and must be taken with a grain of salt. Speaking personally, I always found his work to be at the very least enjoyable. You wouldn't think it to look at him but Balls could move for a guy with his build, and proved to be a mainstay of the classic ECW roster, and by many accounts seemed to be a good human being outside of it. RIP Balls."

Otherwise, he's honestly one of the more vile ECW gimmicks, especially now what we know about the impact of chair shots on someone's mental capacity. Just terrible."

It was LOADED with trashy weapons guys who had zero talent other than being a few fries short of a happy meal. Ball was not the worst of the group, but he was certainly a card carrying member."

[3.0] "Among the ECW "Classics" I rate Balls right next to Mustafa Saed and Sandman in how truly bad he was: at least New Jack could talk and Tommy Dreamer was good at being beaten into a pulp. But let Paul Heyman work his magick and Balls became so beloved people are still ready to this day not merely to give him a free pass, but to somehow consider him a good wrestler. That takes not merely booking ability but downright genius."

Blood Pump wrote on 06.04.2017:

[7.0] "Balls is probably most associated with his stiff-as-hell chairshots and his ability to absorb extreme amounts of punishment, but beneath that the "Chair-Swingin' Freak" was actually a very solid all-around wrestler, with good power and agility for a big man and a legitimate wrestling background to compliment his brawling skill. He made himself a memorable figure in ECW's later history, with three ECW Tag Title reigns to go with it, and was one of the few ECW Originals to find success in WWE's ECW reboot (culminating in an unlikely but surprisingly effective romance storyline with Kelly Kelly). Sadly among the many wrestling personalities we've lost in 2016."

His chair shots in ECW were the stiffest shots I have ever seen. Overall one of my favorite wrestlers of ECW and sucks that he is not with us anymore."

[7.0] "Legit tough guy. Wish he would put the chair away. Anyone off the street can hit someone in the top of the head as hard as they can with a chair, so I don't get why people like him for that. Is a VERY GOOD wrestler but he has bought into the chair swinging freak gimmic so we don't see much of the wrestling. Stop trying to be Bruiser Brody. It takes no talent to bend a chair around some poor guys concussed head. The talent is not hurting your opponent and making it look like you did. Moves like a cat for a big guy. Again, PUT THE CHAIR AWAY."
