The initial action is especially great, with Davey's own strength bringing an unusual hesistation to Vader's game. As that fades to the backdrop though, this becomes a more familiar Vader affair, which isn't the most flattering look for Smith. They do loop back around in the finishing run however, producing a highlight or two that re-engages The Omni. It's an uneven piece of business, but a good match nonetheless. ***1/4 |

It you can ignore that then it's honestly got to be one of Davey Boy's singles matches. From the opening where he barely registers Vader's offence to a little later in the match once he starts manhandling him, Davey Boy looks absolutely awesome here. Vader brings out the physicality to take control any time he can, and I love how the match feels like such a car wreck that both men end up getting hurt by their own offence. They seem to be building to a really hot finish when unfortunately we get a lame disqualification instead. It's such a lazy way to end what was an awesome match. Definitely worth checking out - just wish we got to see this wrapped up properly. |

Seriously, just make Vader win by cheating or something, instead of going for a flat DQ ending. Still, everything else up to this point was almost perfect. You have never seen so many power moves executed on Vader and Davey Boy made them look so easy with his power. He shined in the first few minutes to get the crowd behind him even more and because of that the fans were still chanting his name during Vader's heat gathering. They paced it well, Bulldog worked the crowd fantastically and it really had a big fight feeling. |

Es ist vollkommen in Ordnung, dass man da dem Neuankömmling Smith nicht gleich den Top-Titel hinterherwirft, sondern ihn und Vader erst einmal machen lässt. Das Match ist ziemlich passabel und dank einiger Powermoves auch gut ansehbar. Race ist mir etwas zu präsent und das Finish dann auch wieder zu billig, aber man kann die Partie durchaus so durchwinken. |

Vader punches Bulldog down then knocks him outside where Race lays in a cheap shot. Vader tries to splash him against the guardrail but Smith dodges and Vader falls into ringside and Davey picks him up and lifts him back over the guardrail and slams him! Back inside a delayed suplex puts Vader down. Vader with an eye poke and jumps off the second rope into a powerslam. Smith is doing good until he tries a crucifix pin and Vader turns it into a samoan drop. Vader works on the leg then hits a Vader bomb for 2. Vader tries a superplex and Smith throws him off and Smith follows off with a headbutt and it looks like Smith is bleeding the hard way from the nose. Smith with a sunset flip but Vader tries to sit on him and Davey scoots out of the way and gets a 2 1/2 count. Vader takes control and goes up top for a big splash but hurts himself. Vader pounds Smith down then goes to a reverse chin lock but Bulldog picks him up in the electric chair and drops him. Smith with the Superman comeback and they fight outside and Vader gets pissed and whacks Bulldog with a chair for a cheapy dq. Bagwell runs in for the save and gets dropped by Vader then Sting makes the save setting up the next ppv. Disappointing main event that set up that horrible Beach Blast tag team match with the god awful movie promos. |

Davey Boy's freakish strength has never been more impressive than it was here and the crowd exploded with every move he did. There's a spot where he gives Vader a delayed vertical suplex and makes it look easy. There's another cool spot at the end where Vader goes for a running corner splash, but Smith catches him in the air for the running powerslam. If not for the dumb finish with Harley Race interfering, I would say this was actually on par with Vader's classics with Sting. |

So gibt es den ein oder anderen überraschenden Konter (Turnbuckle Powerslam usw. ). Leider schmälert das Ende doch den Gesamteindruck. Das man den Bulldog nach dieser Leistung keinen World oder NWA Title Run anbot ist mir ein Rätsel. |

The biggest WOW stuff is Bulldog doing utterly insane power stuff, a delayed vertical suplex, and deadlifting the big man on his shoulders? Oh my god! Some of the craziest power moves of all time in this match. And still, Vader is the man who truly drives the match, filling the gaps with great selling and his sublime crash and smash offense. The finish is a bit of a copout but I think they justified it well, Vader was shook by Davey's ability to throw him around and took the easy way out. Really dug this one, second best match on the card. |

Dennoch wehrt sich dieser immer wieder und das Match ist eigentlich ganz gut bis zu diesem lahmen und uninspirierten DQ-Finish im Main Event. Klar man wollte den Bulldog schützen, aber so was im Main Event ist immer richtig ätzend. Zieht die Wertung gewaltig runter. |
