The main 'appeal' of the match was the ways all 3 women's styles mixed together, but that was sadly brought about in the most generic way with a bunch of cheesy and contrived 3-woman spots and sequences, which at times were even worse because of bad chemistry or individual timing. What's worse is that the more creative they attempted to be, the sloppier and more ridiculous the end product was. There was also just the classic and immensely boring structure where 2 wrestlers would face off while the 3rd lay down outside the ring selling, only to jump back into the ring whenever a convenient multi-woman spot/sequence was coming or when there was a pin or submission to break up. That sort of stuff is novel the first time you see it, but much less so the millionth time. I also wasn't a fan of the character work from either Mercedes or Mina, since Mercedes goes for the absolute lowest hanging fruit with her cheesy arrogant-heel displays and bratty-heel tantrums, while Mina seems to think that simply gyrating is a substitute for actual charisma (not to mention that's very off-putting coming from a babyface, since it's such a self-obsessed thing to begin with - "look at me oooh"). AZM was the best wrestler here, but then that's usually the case whenever she's in the ring. She just has the natural speed, fluidity, and crisp technique that most others don't. It's just a shame she was stuck with such a stupid match layout and with far weaker opponents. Obviously she desperately still needs more personality, even after all her years of experience, but I'll more than take that over her partners here, who were always trying to cover up their inferior in-ring skills with lame character work. Merecedes didn't even look bothered here, with slow movements and attacks that lacked impact. After seeing the result where she lost (though without being pinned, because of course that's what how it had to go), that makes more sense. Mina, as always, was completely mediocre. A few attacks would look decent, but others would look sloppy and way above her skill level. The run-on near falls from all 3 in the final 1/4th went on for way too long and became an annoyance, and then AZM's eventual match-winning pin had zero drama as a result because we'd just sat through a million other pin attempts immediately prior, so I'd already been so heavily conditioned than any pin attempt = zero real chance of victory. There was still solid enough pacing and enough variety in the action throughout this match that stopped it being anywhere near awful, but the flaws were numerous enough for this to still be a poor match. At least the best wrestler won. **1/4 |

Natürlich ist's angenehm temporeich gestaltet gewesen, ringerisch allerdings auch nur eins von vielen verblieben. Ein Hauch von Tüll sicherlich nicht, ein Hauch von Müll - um SpongeBob Schwammkopf zu zitieren - aber definitiv auch nicht. |

We have to give this like at least 20 minutes, right? I'm harping on the time because, to me, the performers, particularly Mercedes, seemed a little rushed at times. And I don't mean they weren't slowing down to sell or whatever. There actually seemed to be a rush to get from one spot to the next at times as if they were concerned for a lack of time. Apart from that, this was a banger. I think a future AZM/Mercedes feud might be special. |

The pacing was urgent, the execution was sharp, and the physicality conveyed a real sense of struggle -- all contributing to a strong narrative throughout the match. The finish was abrupt and unexpected, leaving me momentarily speechless -- in the best way possible. Overall, this was an outstanding triple threat and an absolute must-watch for fans of women's wrestling. |

There was a bit too much dancing and novelty wrestling in a main event championship match for my tastes (that not-at-all applied Figure Four was a particular lowlight), and I think I'll always find Mina's constant gyrating to be a bit Rick Rude obnoxious heel rather than endearing, but this was otherwise fine. |

I'm happy AZM won, was huge on her after seeing her match at Wrestle Kingdom got me hooked so can't wait to see what she does with the championship. |

Not saying they went easy, but that's the difference between the 8 I'm giving it and the 9+ it had the potential for. Nothing more needs to be said about Mercedes (GOAT). But Azumi and Mina are both excellent in their own ways. It's shocking that AZM is only 22 years old. She doesn't seem green or tentative in the ring. Mina is a vet, but similarly doesn't look her age. Mina hits hard and will let her body take some legit bumps - plus, she's always fun and can deliver a laugh. Started out with some pre-planned 3-way action that was decent and got the crowd into it. The last few minutes of the match were GREAT with lots of rapid-fire pin attempts, reversals, and breakups. That part was all really cooking. As good as it gets. I had it spoiled for me that Mercedes dropped the title here, but thankfully I wasn't aware of the winner. Of course it was most logical to go to AZM, as Mina is going to AEW full-time right now. But, I thought it could have been a plausible angle to have Mina steal it from Mercedes and be in the same company where she could flaunt it in her face weekly OR have Mercedes coveting it from a distance and planning revenge. But, we could still get a variation of that angle with Mercedes holding a long-term grudge against Mina for costing her the title. Anyway, like I said the only gripe I have here is it could have had more time, because these three can all work. Looking forward to seeing a lot more of AZM over the years. She's definitely got star potential if not superstar. |
