[4.0] "This week's episode of WCW Monday Nitro is again a show that is a bit unwatchable to a point. Way better than what they gave us last week but that's not saying much in general. One of the biggest highlights of the night was Benoit & Malenko vs. Saturn and Raven putting on a decent match on a bitter show. The stories during this show are either mismanaged or poorly timed. The main event angle right now is Macho Man Randy Savage and Kevin Nash, Nash is the face by the way? It makes no sense considering they had made nWo Elite earlier in the year and turned into mega heels but 4 months later we are all supposed to forget about that? It just makes Nash not look like a good champion. DDP should have retained at Slamboree '99. We have some highlights for better and for worse like Savage putting lipstick on Nash, Overbooked finishes, Uninteresting storylines and continunity errors. [**]"
[2.0] "So it seems that the post PPV show is 8 days later, as they got bumped last week. That's gotta sting. We open with Ric and entourage getting out of a limo, but specifically DDP is with him. But, Macho caused DDP to lose the match and Macho hates Ric...... Well we open with a Flair promo, lets see. Arn sells the tag championship match later, then Ric pretty much denies the result of the match on the PPV, sets up the mixed tag, and says they're redoing the world title match Eric stopped. This explains the alliance, it's out of Eric hatred. DDP comes out agreeing and brings out his guy, Bam Bam. Least he's out of hardcore hell. Mostly confusing overall so far Okay so I'm not watching with commercials, but there's clearly been at least one, if not two ad breaks. The first match starts 26 minutes in, that's probably around if not over 30 live. It's two minutes long. Rey's great. Evan's rough. Barely a blip tho. Now Ric is setting up the upcoming match by saying he's gonna give BLP everything to lie down for David because he's gonna push David down our throats. But ya know... in the last episode he sacrificed him to Meng. I guessssssss. Flair's allowed to be weird. Now a Book promo, calling out Rick for a rematch. It's good enough. Now for the "squash". It is a "rigged" storyline match where... nobody looks good? I don't frickin know. So that dovetails with the mixed tag. FLAIR GETS A 2nd ENTRANCE. As him and his people came out with David. Heck Robinson reffed the last match. And by god Macho is done. He's the worst wrestler in this match, and there's a REF in it. It's about 2/3rd shtick 1/3rd match, and the match parts aren't great. All sizzle no steak, crowd loved it. There's a long Piper promo that aged like milk, where Eric, Randy, and Nash comes out. So much goes on and it's just likely building for what's going to be a terrible Randy v Nash match and a terrible power struggle between multiple authority figures. So this Sandman vs Finlay match is 1/4th of a standard Hardcore match but isn't actually good. It's just brawl plunder brawl, til Knobbs causes them to throw it out dor some reason that I can't comprehend. This is the first time I've thought "Why am I watching this? " Now Rick vs Book... wait no Booker is dead. So Rick makes an open challenge. IT'S STING! Everytime Sting is in control this is a good match. Rick keeps slowing the sprint down because he can't keep up. Then Scott comes out. Then Luger comes out. And I guess Rick gets counted out because nothing "DQable" happened. Two garbage finishes in a row. Zero good matches so far. Konnan vs Curt was getting to be a good match. Bit slow and oldschool for my tastes, but still decently solid, especially for 99. Then Macho comes out. And because Konnan is Wolfpac and so is Nash, he's gonna make him lose. Konnan to the outside, Macho with a short geriatric beatdown. Perfect Plex. 1, 2, 3. Serviceable match torched by the ending. You could put that tag title match on TV today and people would be satisfied. Finish is a lil wonky with double interference by the managers, but still the only thing on this episode worth watching by a league. And heck, the last spot of pushing Dean into the DVD was smooth as heck. Your Main was the usual "DDP Cheats Liberally" vs "Nash Coasts" and it was a lot of heeling and nothing, till Savage causes a DQ and beats down Nash. No one comes to Nash's aid. The fans chant Goldberg and throw garbage. One rushes the ring. How do you end the show like this There is a single bright spot in a sea of pain here. There are some competent to great wrestlers here mired in confusing booking, poor formatting, and just a need to focus on the broader "story" over trying to make a compelling show. I think they're too lost in their own lore. I'm just sad."
[2.0] "This show had a really, really good tag title match and a decent Finlay/Hak hardcore brawl, but the rest of this show was atrocious. The opener only got two minutes while referee Charles Robinson got almost nine minutes, David Flair vs. Buddy Lee Parker, and Randy Savage drawing on Nash's face with lipstick. Yeah."
[2.0] "Nitro going downhill fast. A couple good matches, especially the tag title match, but some real stinkers. David Flair is wrestling weekly. A washed up Rick Steiner is TV champion. The crowd chanting Goldberg half the night but nobody in WCW is listening, as Nash books himself to be the big babyface. Nash obliterates DDP completely in the main event, then Randy Savage draws lipstick on his face. Yikes."
