Anyways I walked away from this enjoying 3 matches alot. Those matches being Ogawa and Zach/Tanahashi and HAYATA, Ishii/Kitamiya, and ofcourse the Kenoh/Soya co mainevent. I'm not gonna drag the mainevent more then it allready has been dragged but it was and is definitely a low point of the show and of NOAH as a whole. |

What should be a show remembered for Kenoh and Soya's great title match is instead remembered as a testament to how much NOAH squandered the momentum they got after Mutoh's retirement run. The main event was one of the most flagrant displays of idiocy in all of recent wrestling history. Everyone involved from management to the performers looked like idiots for going through with it. Anyways, the rest of the show was a mixed bag to begin with. There were some great matches, but there were also some pretty noteworthy misses. I'd rate the matches individually [but my account is too new, so, oh well] but overall the show was 2.5 out of 5 stars. I wasn't blown away by the Kenoh and Soya match and I'm a big fan of both. The crowd was DEAD and the pacing was a little off which led to a few miffed spots but I still give it a solid 3 out of 5. The Ishi/Kitamiya was expectedly great, as many folks thought it would be so a solid 4 out of 5 stars. I don't even want to talk about the Ibushi match and I'll leave it at that. |

Early show got off to an expected-but-unspectacular start with a great junior heavyweight tag match thrown in, but it feels like things really kicked off with Ishii vs Kitamiya. Another NOAH vs NJPW match followed, and then we got the interesting debut of... the Great Muta's kayfabe daughter? Huh. Well, that's an interesting gimmick. Sugiura vs Sasaki followed, I always enjoy Sugiura but this was just a run of the mill mid-card match. Ogawa/ZSJ vs HAYATA/Tanahashi followed, obviously building the big NJPW World TV title match in two days time. Ogawa/ZSJ are of course a historically great tag team, and this match was very fun. Daga then beats Eita in the junior title match which was fairly great, and... oh, god, REALLY? ! Even when I switch to another promotion, I can't escape these HoT twats! Ugh, anyway, here comes the big one. Kenoh vs Soya, heavyweight title. I feel like Soya isn't quite heavyweight title level but I suppose he is a guy who can easily be pushed there for a tour to fill a gap and then brough backdown. Kenoh, of course, being Kenoh, puts on a huge barnburner with him. I don't really know if I should comment on the main event, but... first, Kenoh vs Soya SHOULD have been the main event here. Second... Ibushi used to be one of my favourite wrestlers of all time, so while this match wasn't the ABSOLUTE bollocks... it was *heartbreaking* seeing him clearly in agony the entire match. Marufuji tries to get an out-of-it, agonized Ibushi out of second gear for what's written down as 33 minutes but will feel to the viewer more like eight hours, Ibushi walking into the match with a broken bloody ankle and then apparantly BREAKING THE OTHER ONE with a moonsault to the outside. GOOD, GREAT, AWESOME, THIS WILL DEFINITELY GO WELL. Mercifully this match (which has legitimately reduced the crowd to stunned silence, unable to believe what's happening in front of them) is concluded with three Kamigoyes as Ibushi stumbles over onto Marufuji's body after the last one. He can't even stand after the match, his ankles are that borked. Nor can he take the mic to send the crowd home. Jake Lee and Kento Kiyomiya come down to the ring, probably a mixture of concern for Ibushi and sheer desire to rip his head off, and usher him out. Ibushi, in tears, leaves on his own two feet, and is reportedly taken out of the arena in an ambulence. Fantastic. Lee and Kiyomiya attempt to, rather sheepishly, cut babyface "please continue to support us" promos to close us out and send the crowd home... happy? They don't seem like their heart is in it as we end the show. Honestly, if you cut out the main event, you're left with a fairly solid night of wrestling that I would recommend to new viewers of NOAH who are perhaps NJPW fans wanting a pre-game for Wrestle Kingdom. But bloody hell, guys, who let this main event happen? It really drags down the whole thing and just further cements the fact that the heavyweight title should've main evented. Either way, Ibushi needs to finally quit the nonsense about refusing surgery, take the Kenny Omega Recommended Course For People Who Are Held Together With Six Year Old Athletic Tape And Hopes And Fucking Dreams, and if he isn't going to do that and continue to self-destruct like this, then... he needs to retire instead. It's a sour note to end on, but NOAH The New Year 2024 is a 6.0 out of 10. Without that main event, you can bump it up to a 7.0 or 7.5. With 5 out of 10 being "average" because we use the scale PROPERLY, this means I consider this to be a SOLID show. |

Tragically the main event did nothing but leave a bad taste in my mouth as Marufuji tries his best to get something out of Kota Ibushi who is clearly a shell of his former self. |

The crowd was hot for some matches, cold for others like the joshi one or the main event. I don't blame them. The GHC Heavyweight Championship match delivered and had the crowd going crazy at the end so that's a good thing and Kaito was made to look like a hero in that elimination tag match. Sadly this show contains one of the worst main events I've ever seen so I can't give it more than a 6 because I think that match really left a bad taste in everyone's mouth and the main event obviously has an important place in a show, it's the finale, everything builds to it, it's supposed to achieve something besides making you feel like you're watching a pathetic performance. |
