[9.0] "This was a great Royal Rumble as a event, the fact of the return of Ric Flair, Mr. Perfect, characters previous to Right To Censor of The Godfather, Val Venis, etc and a remembered moment like Maven eliminating The Undertaker. 9/10"

[5.0] "Asides from an excellent Royal Rumble match, this show left me with not much to really savor. The undercard was rushed and not much to write home about asides from a decent Regal/Edge match, and even then I preferred their Vengeance match. Flair/Vince was quite slow and plodding and not really up to par with the best Vince street fights. Y2J/Rock have had some great matches in the last year, but this was the worst by far. Y2J looked weak and needed too much shenanigans to get the win over Rocky. The Rumble match does save the show, but it makes the show a one match show."

[5.0] "Honestly, not a good Rumble event at all, though not terrible. The Rumble itself is really what saves it from being a bad show. But to compliment the Rumble, you had a WWF title match that does absolutely no favors in elevating the new champ, a really bland Street Fight that makes no sense, and a couple of other matches that aren't doing much to save it. This is a watchable show, but the Rumble is all you really should go out of your way to watch. You aren't missing much else."

The McMahon/Flair street fight really over delivered in my opinion and was quite brutal, the world title match was solid even through all the schmozz and the rumble was solid and fun and almost felt like a reunion of sorts with so many returns including Triple H to the top of the card. 3 star card."

[6.0] "This PPV did not live up to the hype for me. I did enjoy the short dudleys match but it was too short. Then followed up with a boring edge/regal match and the woman's title match which wasn't great either. Vince/Flair was not as good as I thought it would be... I think a lot of people had lowered expectations, but I did not. I do give Vince credit that he looks WAY MORE in shape than Flair, despite being older and not a wrestler... but still, Flair shouldn't have looked so weak for the beginning of the match. at least the shenanigans were sorta funny, and there was a lot of blood. I guess i expected more spots. It's just hard to believe that Vince/Shane can pull off a much better street fight than Vince/Flair. Rock/Y2J was a very good match and surprising victory for Jericho. I'm always amazed how the WWF can tell the story and put on a good match in different ways almost every time. The stuff with the refs was good, and the canadian guys helping jericho out was funny. I think it was still a good idea for Jericho to not get a clean win. The Rumble itself was alright, in my opinion. I really did not expect HHH to win. Mr Perfect looked fucking gassed, but it seems he was just saving his energy until the end, because he looked good in his last few attacks. I don't really understand what they're doing with Undertaker though, having him clean house but then letting Maven eliminate him? Also, Maven never officially got eliminated, which was weird. Is he the true champ? The stuff Undertaker and Maven was doing in the crowd was interesting at least, and different. So, props to that. I liked seeing the Hardy's and Lita back together, and I enjoyed Godfather's entrance and how they let that go for a full 2 minutes while completely ignoring what was going on in the ring. Also, I don't want to do the full math on this, but there are at least 8 guys in the rumble this year who were rumble rookies. Is that a record? I'm just counting the ECW/WCW guys, Maven, and Angle in that calculation, but there may be others. Over 1/4 of the participants were first timers, which I thought was cool. But I'm not a fan of rumbles in general, so it has to take an epic rumble (like 2001) for me to truly appreciate it. This definitely was a "one match show"."

[9.0] "Spike and Taz Vs Dudleys and Stratus Vs Jazz were both bad and Regal Vs Edge was just mid, but McMahon Vs Flair street fight was real solid, the royal rumble match was really great and Jericho Vs Rock was fantastic. Overall WWF Royal Rumble (2002), while a far cry from WWF Royal Rumble (2001), is still a great show."

[5.0] "Very much a one-match show for me, with that one match being Jericho vs Rock. I found the Royal Rumble match itself to be very lackluster and boring, especially coming off one of the greatest of all time in 2001. Triple H and Austin were really good and Angle had his moments but that whole first half was rough and in my opinion, the 2nd half didn't do enough to make up for it. Jericho vs Rock was great though, those two could not miss around this time. Everything else? Just sort of there. The Flair/Mcmahon street fight was super mediocre, Edge/Regal was decent, the opener didn't do much. But I will say, Trish/Jazz was very good for the time it got."

[7.0] "6.7/10: i have always wondered how is this rumble so highly rated, and the ratings get justified to about a quarter and half. The rumble was good, only. The tag team match was a good spectacle, followed by two bizzare matches. Mcmahon vs flair was surprisingly unorthodox, and quite entertaining for me. Jericho vs rock was definitely the match of the night, which had everything we could get from these two men. In hindsight, the mania would have been better if somehow jericho could have lost the title in between, because the main event wasnt so good. Overall, a decent rumble. The main event had great star power, but the in ring stuff went down in between."

[8.0] "This show has my favourite Royal Rumble Match so far, which was phenomenal when it comes to the star power, but there were also some other very good matches on this show. Flair vs McMahon was a cleverly booked Street Fight with Vince maybe getting a little bit too much offense, but it paid off when Ric finally got his comeback and then Jericho vs Rock was another good bout between them, this time with Y2J fully embracing his heel role. Also Regal vs Edge was fine and Dudleys vs Spike & Taz wasn't horrible, but the main dish was the Royal Rumble Match with so many stars. Even though Triple H was the favourite you couldn't say if he would win for sure, plus it was just great to see all these main eventers fight each other. Additionaly it had a brilliant spot to introduce Maven, which genuinely made me pop. A fantastic way to start the year of 2002."

[6.0] "The Rumble here was a good one overall, and the final-four sequence when it came down to HHH, Austin, Angle and Perfect was very enjoyable, but there was never really any doubt that HHH was going to win in the end. Elsewhere, Jericho vs. Rock was easily the best standard match of the night, while Flair vs Vince was OK for what it was and Regal vs Edge was also fairly solid. The Dudleys vs Spike & Tazz did fine in making Tazz look strong - one of the handful of times he was allowed to in WWE after his debut - but was short enough that it might as well have been on Raw, and Trish vs Jackie - as was sadly characteristic of PPV women's matches at this time - was just a short throwaway. Overall a decent enough watch, if not among the classic Rumbles."

[9.0] "Very entertaining Rumble PPV. The undercard matches aren't that great with the opening tag and the women's title matches going too short, but it does pick up with the violent street fight between Mr. McMahon and Ric Flair. The Rock vs Chris Jericho is very good as all of their matches was, but it is a little too overbooked. The Rumble is strong because of the star power and also the spell with The Undertaker and then the shock elimination from Maven was fantastic. The winner was very obvious, but that doesn't make it a bad thing."

[8.0] "Your enjoyment for this one will most likely vary on the Rumble match itself. The undercard was generally very good from top to bottom, with a solid IC Title match, a fun Flair/Vince brawl, and a great Rock/Y2J encounter. I very much liked the Rumble, so it garnered a strong point overall."

[7.0] "A pretty good Rumble. The opener between Spike and Tazz vs the Dudleyz was ok nothing special. (**3/4) Edge vs William Regal was good but felt a little average in some moments. (***) Jazz vs Trish Stratus was forgettable. (*1/3) Ric Flair vs Vince McMahon was pretty good with both of their acting in pain being incredible. (***1/4) Chris Jericho vs The Rock is MOTN as it was fast paced and both men got some offense in. (****1/4) The Royal Rumble match was good and had some fun moments like Maven eliminating the Undertaker, Hurricane's antics with Steve Austin and Triple H, and the returns of Godfather, Goldust, and Mr. Perfect were fun to watch. (****) Pretty good PPV with a weak opener but picks up in the end."

[7.0] "There are some good matches in this event, the Royal Rumble match is perfectly fine, with the hyped return of Triple H from the injury vs Stone Cold Steve Austin. Chris Jericho vs The Rock is enjoyable with some cheaps tactics. Ric Flair vs Vince McMahon is a good brawl, it's not all that great. Also Regal vs Edge is another fun match to enjoy. I don't think it's one of the most remembered Rumble events but it gets its job done."

[9.0] "Where do i begin! one of my favorite events to this day which i will get into through this review. Lets start with William Regal, i love the style he worked and around the year 2002 i remember often being glued to the tv during his matches. Sure they weren't non stop classics but he def was intriguing. Next would be the return of Ric Flair to a WWF ring for the first time in nearly a decade. The match with Vince was about what i expected out of two men in their 50's one of which technically isn't even a wrestler. The brawling in this match was great though regardless of age. The there was the WWF title match between Jericho and Rock! I remember back then hating this match as i couldn't believe Rock didn't win.... was only 14 lol wasn't quite aware how it all worked back then. But now when i watch this match back i just love the suspense involved. Even though i know the outcome i find myself subconsciously hoping for the Rock to pull it out lol.... And then the big one, the Rumble match itself. I don't have a problem with the winner although i would have liked to see Austin win. The high spot for me had to be Maven eliminating Taker and the return of Mr. Perfect! One of my all time favorite and when his music hit i screamed like a 10 year old girl. Many fond memories from this show and nothing specific to complain about. I'll go 8. 5/10 and round up to a 9/10!"

[6.0] "The 2002 Royal Rumble is the kind of show that was probably much funner back in 2002 than it was to watch in 2015. The main attraction of the show is the Rumble and, with few surprise entrants and several talents whose schticks were played out even then (Scotty 2 Hotty, Val Venis), there is little replay value to this edition off the annual battle royal. Unlike the 92' or 97' editions, the finish is straightforward to the point of not being very interesting. Unlike the crowd-pleasing 90', 91', and 98' versions, you don't get a victory that 100% of the audience supports (which isn't to say Triple H wasn't popular, but Austin and RVD certainly had vocal supporters who are audibly disappointed in their eliminations). Elsewhere on the card, Jericho and The Rock put forth the best match of the night, though, Edge/Regal is a bit of a hidden gem and easily one of the best non-stipulation matches that Edge had wrestled on PPV up to this point in his career. Look elsewhere for quality divas action, though."
