Update from 04.09.2021: The rise of AEW and the return of CM Punk have caused another uptick of tribalism on both sides, leading to many warnings and bans over the last two weeks. Pulling up this reminder for that reason.

Hi everyone,

I would like to apologize for some strong language in this one ahead of time. Old man rambling starting in 3, 2, 1, ...

Closing in on the 20 Year Anniversary of this site, I cannot deny the fact that 20 years ago the level of quality of discussions on the internet, even for wrestling forums, was miles ahead of what it is now.

This website was built and developed and grown from the first year onward to adhere to a somewhat high standard despite the fact we are amateurs. This is shown in the way we present the information on our site impartially despite our own ideals and opinions on the wrestling business. This is also supposed to be shown in the moderation and monitoring of our ratings system, where low-effort comments are removed just as much as trolling. As a matter of fact, the former has been the much bigger problem 15 years ago when we introduced the ratings system than it is today. Today the biggest problem is the really disappointing tribalism on display in so many comments. And no, it is not just fans of a certain wrestling promotion that are at fault for this. I dare say that relative to their popularity, every wrestling promotion's fans are at fault to an equal degree. It is not just WWE vs. AEW or East vs. West or Women's vs. Men's Wrestling or the stupid Cornette cultists vs. Modern Wrestling. We have had to warn and ban hundreds of people over the last year from all of these different styles of wrestling (and more) because of their lazy, transparent and insulting attempts at ratings manipulation.

It is at a point where I am contemplating some integral changes to the ratings system, just to further make it more difficult for those braindead people that seem to have absolutely no ability to filter or control themselves and not act like idiots on the internet. After doing this for 20 years and having to deal with this on a daily basis (in my own free time, by the way), it really starts to get on my nerves.

I love the ratings system and the 80% of you who have read the rules and try to follow them to the best of your ability. I know they are strict and it may seem sometimes like "random ratings" are going missing. I truly appreciate those of you who make an effort to not only use the ratings system, but contribute to it by maintaining a consistent ratings behaviour and a high standard for your comments. I think we have a huge amount of really interesting comments for most eras of wrestling and it is fun to learn something new by reading them -- especially if they are free of open or hidden agendas. I would love to promote you and help you more, while getting rid of the cancerous tribalism, trolling and cultism that has evolved strongly over the last couple of years. However, I am not exactly sure, how.

So this question goes to you, the 80% who understand the ratings system and love it for what it is supposed to be: What would you do to promote open, but high-quality comments in the ratings system? Should we introduce a requirement that at least X percent of a user's ratings must be commented? Should we have a waiting period for new users, maybe especially after major events? I am open to ideas at the moment, before I eventually make up my mind on how to tackle this problem going forward. Please send me an email or a message via the contact form, if you have constructive ideas.

To the other 20% who don't care about what the ratings system is supposed to be and care only about the numbers for your darlings: I do not give a shit about you. You will get banned eventually.
