212.04.2026Connorstubbs129.0AI Review (as me writing is long and tedious) Callum Newman has emerged as one of the most exciting young talents in modern professional wrestling, bringing a fresh energy that has helped elevate the industry's in-ring standards. Known for his incredible athleticism and fast-paced style, Newman has demonstrated that the next generation of wrestlers can blend traditional storytelling with innovative, high-impact offense. One of the key ways Newman has improved professional wrestling is through his emphasis on speed and fluidity. His matches often feature seamless transitions between moves, keeping audiences engaged and making each contest feel unpredictable. This modern approach reflects the evolving tastes of wrestling fans, who increasingly value technical precision alongside spectacle. Additionally, Newman represents the growing importance of international and independent wrestling scenes. By honing his craft outside of the largest promotions, he showcases how talent can develop globally, rather than being confined to a single system. His performances help shine a spotlight on rising promotions and encourage fans to explore wrestling beyond mainstream platforms. Newman's commitment to storytelling is another major contribution. Despite his high-flying style, he understands the importance of pacing and emotional investment. His matches are not just displays of athletic ability but narratives that build tension and deliver satisfying conclusions. In summary, Callum Newman has improved professional wrestling by embodying the qualities of the modern performer: athleticism, innovation, and storytelling. As his career continues to grow, he is likely to inspire future wrestlers and further push the boundaries of what professional wrestling can achieve.
312.04.2026Mutoism5.0It is really complicated to have zero aure while carrying the most precious title in wrestling's history. Laura
411.04.2026PhoenixS99 It makes me very sad how low Callum is rated here this man has improved so much since he first debuted at NJPW. I think when he first showed up I'd say he was an easy 4 but his recent promos have improved a lot and his matches are showing so much more psychology, the recent New Japan Cup final and his triumph over Yota Tsuji at Sakura Genesis showed a lot more storytelling in the ring than ever, since the start of 2026 Callim has put on good performance after good performance and I would say he easily deserves at least an 8!
510.04.2026forgottenname6.0Not ready. That's how I can describe Callum any day of the week. Callum has been listed as the future top foreigner since his appearance in NJPW, but every time he got a chance, he showed average results, but the small success at the NJPW Cup apparently made him popular with a small handful of Western fans. At the beginning of his career, Callum was a protege of Will Osprey, who runs fast and that was all his exclusivity, although at that time he had at least something special. Over time, Callum simply copied Kenny Omega's style, slowing down his matches and actions in order to make them look like those very epics. Another cheap parody, but at the same time, the Prince of pace did not find something new that would set him apart from others. Another cloak, another pretentious music, now written with the help of AI. The Prince seemed to become King, but it was so forced and artificial that I don't have the strength. Besides, even though I scolded Callum, I have to say that this guy really has a lot of necessary makings for a high-level wrestler, he's just very young and while someone puts it as an "achievement", I don't understand it, because they put him on the same level as wrestlers like Tsuji. And even though I think Yota is overrated, he's a much more ready-made wrestler than Newman. And unfortunately, Newman is not the talent of the generation to be at the level of really good wrestlers at the age of 23. At the moment, Callum is a project for the future, which Gedo is trying to implement using old methods now at a fast pace, and it seems that with such progress and achievements, we should face the next Omega, which can be treated differently, but it is impossible to find a more influential foreigner nowadays, but Newman is just a copycat and so far that I can only hope that this will change with experience and time.

709.04.2026BrandiRhodes76909.0Wow what a rise from Newman if you told me two months ago that Callum Newman would be iwgp champion then I would be surprised and concerned but watching the match against tsuji, I was rooting for for Newman the Whole time

909.04.2026TheDoomCJ9.0Really impressed me in the new japan cup finals. His physique is great, he's so talented in the ring. WIth a little more seasoning on promo's he'll be a strong main event guy in Japan. Here's hoping he keeps showing out.

1207.04.2026Keithnelson188.0I've only seen 3 matches of this guy and he's become one of my favorites. I mean, just last year I had no idea who this guy was. He's really good in the ring and those two matches during the New Japan Cup and his recent match with Yota were amazing.
1306.04.2026karios24RM9.0What a year for callum so far, since his challenge for the title againsta goto something feels different, and new japan cup semifinal and final + sakura genesis win just put him in a top-card position and overcoming expectations of what i think of him Really talented and excited for his next matches

1506.04.2026DyingOfTheLight9.0Still not entirely sold on Newman, he still comes off as Will Ospreay lite in his presentation and in-ring style, but at 23 he has plenty of time to move away from that stage of his career. NJPW are setting up 2026 to be a strong year for Newman, we will have to see if he finds more of his own personality soon. Edit: Newman found that personality through an incredible New Japan Cup, and has almost completely won me over in the span of a few months. The future or Newman is extremely bright.
1605.04.2026BigRossManWP9.0Updating my rating as Newman has progressed significantly since I first went through the New Japan roster. Whilst the Prince of Pace moniker and Ospreay-isms didn't help him in winning over any doubters, his shift to becoming the company's top heel alongside adopting a harder hitting style has done wonders for him. Whilst I was stunned at the decision to crown him as the youngest ever IWGP Heavyweight Champion at Sakura Genesis, I can hardly say that the result isn't deserved based on the work he's put in to improve his craft. Newman truly feels ready to lead NJPW's top heel unit and I am thoroughly looking forward to seeing how his reign and seemingly impending split from Will Ospreay unfolds.

1904.04.2026Highbird8.0Callum Newman has come a long way in a short time and it's wild how forgettable he felt not that long ago, now he actually feels like he belongs in main events. His New Japan Cup run really sold me and everything he does in the ring just clicks, and even though he's still figuring things out on the character side, you can see how high his ceiling is.
2004.04.2026Willie 192008.0Bro went from being one of the most forgettable parts of the new Japan card to being in must watch main event matches and I couldn't be any happier, he's got a bright future ahead of him and has already won the greatest prize in pro wrestling history, so overall gotta love Newman

2301.04.2026Waterisgood239.0Callum Newman has leveled up over the past year or two, and by god, he's gotten good. His entire NJCup run was great, and he deserved that win. I think he's gonna be the best Gaijin in NJPW for a long while.

3123.03.2026breakdownthewalls9.0yeah this guy has some potential. I've seen the narritive on Newman change recently I feel like it was just last week that people said he boring but now I am seeing people wanting him to beat tsuji, that would be a big shock and I don't see it happening but is really shows how these past two matches in the new Japan cup have raised this guys stock alot, I'm very excited to see him vs tsuji and im and very pleased with Newman's work recently, he can end up being New Japan's Kyle fetcher.
3222.03.2026InstantClassic129.0Holy hell, I have to admit I wasn't a fan of Callum for a very long time and really didn't see anything worthy in or outside of the ring. But since his heel turn, change of character and reforming of the UE, he has really come into his own and that reflects big time in his in-ring performances. Had 3 or 4 great matches in the New Japan Cup and was probably the best in-ring performer outside of Yuya (who he beat in the finals). His future is bright for sure

3422.03.2026TakeMart8.0Writing this review fresh off Newman's NJ Cup win. The progress Newman has made since his first IWGP title shot vs Goto is massive. He lapped all the Reiwa guys besides Tsuji and established himself as the most main event worthy gaijin since Jay White.
3522.03.2026Switch Blade9.0The Prince Callum Newman is one of the most gifted wrestlers recently, his character work has been perfect so far & finally chasing his best version after 3 years of confusion. Winning the New Japan Cup will give him a huge momentum boost as a leader of United Empire. I like his motivation and in-ring skills, speed & agility. I'm looking forward to see what's next for the 23 years old star.

3821.03.2026Nicks9.0Callum is a wrestler who has improved significantly in recent times. I didn't like him much at the beginning of his career, but now in NJPW I've re-evaluated him and I think he's a great wrestler and a future main eventer. I have high hopes for his future, given that he's still very young. That said, he's excellent in the ring and can also develop his character well.
3921.03.2026mendesceltic8.0Callum is not a bad wrestler at all, but I just can't get invested in him. He's already being appointed as UE's new leader and will have some great match where he beats Ospreay in revenge for him leaving NJPW, but until now I haven't seen the hype honestly. EDIT - March 21st He proved me wrong. He has just won the NJ Cup and I really want to see him win a relevant singles title this year.
4021.03.2026spicyjuniormint9.0The shockingly low average ranking of Callum on this site, in my opinion, comes from a fundamental misunderstanding of the kind of wrestler that he is, and as a result, completely pointless and unfair comparisons between him and other wrestlers that have filled the role of top gaijin heel in New Japan. Callum is not a high flying aerial offense master like Will Ospreay, despite their many similarities. He is not an offensive genius innovator like Kenny Omega. And he's not a sneaky, master of mind games backstabber like Jay White. And clearly he's nothing like the Jr. Heavyweight Prince Devitt. Callum is a bruiser, a powerhouse that isn't going to take to the skies, out wrestle you on the mat, jump over the top rope to the outside, or get in your head and pull the strings of the match like a Machiavellian puppet master. No, he is simply going to kick your ever loving ass. And in that way he is extremely unique in terms of the recent top gaijin heels we've gotten in New Japan as of late. In fact, if I had to compare him to anyone, I think the clearest comparison would be the original heel Okada that made the Rainmaker name famous. Okada wasn't any of those things either, he wasn't quite a big man but he did power moves, wasn't quite a striker and yet he struck with the best of them. That Okada was an ass kicker plain and simple, and so is Callum. And the comparison only deepens when you think of Newman's age and the level of success he's had so fast, just like Okada. In fact he just beat Okada's record for the youngest man to ever win the New Japan Cup, and in my opinion, he is beating Yota Tsuji at Sakura Genesis and becoming IWGP Heavyweight Champion. The level of raw talent this guy has is astonishing, he is the best male wrestler in the world in his age group. And he isn't just a prospect anymore, he has started to put it all together in 2026. His New Japan Cup run produced two matches in a row that I think are worthy of being considered for ***** status, something that previously only the greats like Tanahashi, Okada, Naito, Omega and Ospreay could say they were capable of. In fact, despite all the negative comparisons to Jay White, I think Callum is already much better in the ring at 23 than Jay was. One area he needs to improve in however are his promos. Currently he just relies too much on cursing and being a general dickhead rather than complex storytelling and nuanced wordplay which is an area where Jay had everyone beat. But as of today The Prince is staking his claim as one of the best talents in New Japan and the world at large. I think he is the next IWGP Champion and I really look forward to seeing what he does with the top belt around his waist.

4221.03.2026Shoot Style Vampire8.0Callum Newman is very good for how young he is. He's finally starting to break away from the shadow of Will Ospreay by developing a more brutal stick-and-move offensive style paired with a classic smarmy heel character. He's not quite reached his final form yet - he is still very much chained to the modern style of working bouts - but the current iteration is a perfectly solid modern NJPW main event level performer.
4321.03.2026ArkLur219.0Never ever let the IWC tell you that Callum Newman isn't a good wrestler, he's been having a great 2026, NJC winner (deservedly), multiple MOTYC, one of the best in the world currently, y'all should MAKE WAY FOR THE PRINCE
4420.03.2026AriJarrett9.0Callum Newman isn't it brother, as even though he isn't the worst in the world, in terms of a hopeful Will Ospreay replacement, he's extremely off what NJPW want him to be. Therefore, ranking Newman outside of the obvious Ospreay replacement is very difficult, (he practically has the same moves ffs), but there's still nothing to really get excited about. Newman is relatively emotionless, uninteresting and overall kinda bland, practically a far cry from Ospreay in 2016. This ranking could very very premature tho, as there's still time for something to change, but as of now there's just not a lot to get excited about, if you want another wrestler for Ospreay-comparisons, you're better off looking at TJP or Francesco Akira. :/ EDIT: Yeah, alike David Finlay, I was wrong about Callum Newman. His new-found heel work has very quickly become one of the best parts of NJPW. I shouldn't hyper-focused on his comparisons to Will Ospreay back in the original post, as to enjoy Callum Newman to his best ability, comparison to Ospreay are just unneeded and irrelevant baggage, Callum Newman is a great whiny heel and his ring worked has solidified so well now that he's found the perfect role for him. It does prove that sometimes we do need to place more trust in Gedo.

6121.08.2025Chefi7.0Well, he and Boltin were both rated at five at first for me, but they both improved greatly since they're debuts. Callum's first G1 in 2024 wasn't too good, but his teams with Cobb/O-Khan were surprisingly fun. He's started to be a prickly heel, which is helping him greatly, especially during the G1 in 2025. I like the attitude, and it's going to get him further into New Japan.

8828.10.2024cal90995.0Currently nothing more than a flippy-do guy with good speed. Absolutely zero mic skills and negative charisma. He has age on his side so no doubt he'll improve, though by how much I'm not so sure.
8927.10.2024EUJBFTY2.0It's impressive how fast he can run, but unfortunately being a good wrestler is much more than being a fast runner. He also has no charisma or aura to speak of. There's a reason why people call him an Ospreay clone on Twitter. He is what Will Ospreay haters think Ospreay wrestles like.
9014.10.2024dizzied7.0Callum Newman, if he stays healthy, will be a very good wrestler. He isn't there yet, but eventually I will probably be ranking him an 8 or 9. He got a lot of inspiration and mentoring by one of the best in Will Ospreay.. He is just 22. Being in a group like United Empire can only help him. The G1 Climax was a good vehicle for him. Hopefully he can build on that momentum. I would like him to also improve in his character and promo work. Being a gaijin does have some advantages as wrestlers such as Prince Devitt, Kenny Omega, AJ Styles, and Will Ospreay were hugely popular in Japan, but their wrestling and promo work helped get them there.
9125.09.2024danzitorock3.0So far not a good wrestler at all, but still very young, I hope he improves and upgrade his skills, but it's pretty obvious that he's no ready to compete at higher placements on the card. He clearly takes a lot of inspiration from Will Ospreay, which I have nothing against, but the lack of selling and the bad executed moves pisses me off big time.

9513.08.2024texasyosh4.0I haven't been very impressed with Newman from what I've seen of his run. He's very formulaic, with his only name to fame is that he runs the ropes pretty quick. It's a nice gimmick to have, but it doesn't make his matches any different than other Ospreay-lite wrestlers. Maybe he becomes more dynamic as time comes on.
