Lesnar & Angle by this point had definitely hit a groove as far as ring chemistry goes here in summer 2003. Bonus points for the gnarly Angle Slam on a steel chair to Vince McMahon is a hell of a bump by Vinnie Mack."

[10.0] "Outstanding physical match here and a great rematch of their classic Wrestlemania main event. The psychology is good where Angle frustrates Lesnar with his superior grappling abilities and Lesnar is like a caged animal on the outside. Everything in the match just looked great with Angle's offensive counters looking amazing, while Lesnar's brute strength also giving him an advantage in the power department. The second half of the match is fantastic where Angle repeatedly locks in the Ankle Lock. There's one fantastic spot where Angle reverses an F5 with a strange submission move where his legs are wrapped around Lesnar's neck before reversing it into an Ankle Lock. There's a ref bump and eventually you get the visual tap with Vince getting involved and this looked like a screwy finish. Lesnar's selling is fantastic when he hits the F5 on one leg which weakens the move enough to only get a near fall. Angle ends up with the clean submission win and I remember being shocked by that when I saw it live as I thought Lesnar was winning this. Vince taking the Angle Slam on the chair after the match looked sick!"

[7.0] "Pretty good stuff here. My biggest gripes come from the Vince interference (unneeded but in a way led to a slightly more satisfying finish), Lesnar "leaving" with the belt, and Angle not selling the work put into his torso. He sells it for a little bit, and I do understand that it wasn't a big focus in this match, so it doesn't detract all too much. The stuff from the beginning with the match work was good and I think serves a point. The constant disengaging causes Brock to get more aggravated, and in turn, Angle uses Brock's anger to his advantage, which is a common theme. Lesnar's own anger and momentum often work against him. Lesnar being powerful and Angle looking for openings was a good dynamic in the match. Lesnar continuously wants to slam him and Angle often weaves his way out. One of my favorite parts of the bout is on Angle's third armdrag in the beginning he trips and slips up a little on his footing, but Lesnar still comes at him at the same speed. It adds to the francticness of the match and I love it. Brock's selling is really great here. Despite Lesnar hurting his shoulder not being a huge proponent of the match, he continues to find ways to sell it, never interrupting the flow or sequences of the match. His selling of the leg is really good and what popped me most here. A one-legged F5 and he STILL holds the leg and limps after. Brock puts on a great performance here. Brock has great control segments and I think this match is the perfect amount of back & forth. My gripes with it though do hold it down quote bit for me though and it's a match that I think would have benefited from a bit more time to have some more exciting spots, especially with knowing what these guys are capable of. (Angle has really great punches by the way.) [***.5]"

These two have fantastic chemistry always and this is no different. Both guys are in their prime. The finish with Vince getting involved leading to Brock tapping out clean as a whistle is fantastic. 4.25/5"

[8.0] "The build was fantastic, the dynamic and relationship between Kurt and Brock was fascinating and their chemistry was always visible at first glance. It was the level of their WrestleMania match, but this time there was more heat between two guys so the story told in the match was a little different. They were both more aggressive, Lesnar once again felt like a beast and Angle really found himself nicely in the babyface role. They didn't overdo it with kicking out of the finishers, made the whole thing believable and got the crowd hooked until the end."

TrailsOfPersona schrieb am 10.02.2024:
[6.0] "This was a good match, but far, far from anything outstanding. The start of the match with the quick mat work is the best part. The middle of the match absolutely loses it. Lesnar puts Kurt in a long body scissor rest hold that absolutely sucks the life out of the match. And then later the ref takes a bump, and Angle has Lesnar sitting in the Ankle Lock for another supremely long time. While this match had some great near falls, the second half of the match was pretty stock stuff of both guys trading big moves and getting close calls. It was an enjoyable, well performed match, but a lot of slow moments, and not much in the way of new, innovative ideas for these two."

Very few flaws but I will point them out: It didn't need Vince's involvement until the end (which was great! ) and that weird "submission" thing that Kurt had on Brock was a total mess of a "what the hell is that". These two minor gripes aside - THIS is the kind of main event I appreciate, the gimmickries take a back seat to the WRESTLING. Great stuff from Lesnar and Angle. 9.5"

The overbooking at the end with Vince getting involved is emblematic of a weird lowpoint in this feud as a whole. ***1/4"

[9.0] "A marvelous clash between Angle & Lesnar with a change of character roles, a different yet grueling story between them and a different dynamic of physicality from their WrestleMania stunner. The first few minutes showed their amateur wrestling abilities to the best and I liked that equally strong start. Lesnar started to dominate moving on and showed brute aggression throughout his time while Angle found great chances of escape to turn the tables on his favor. Once he turned it, it was blistering from Angle giving exceptional replies to Lesnar with his technical savagery. The ref bump opened up the storyline movement and it was kept apt & entertaining with Vince's expressions of disbelief ruling the screens. Angle winning cemented his win at Vengeance as a great one and this was a befitting reply by the champ to the fiery story initiated by The Beast. 4.25 out of 5 stars!"

[8.0] "Good match but not quite on the level of their WM19 matchup. Angle and Brock start off with some technical work which was good, but I loved Brock's heat segment where he's just dominating Kurt with his crazy strength. Seeing Brock just overpower someone like a child whether it's 2003 or even in 2022 is always a treat. Brock however would run into the turnbuckles which in the process messes up his shoulder giving Kurt an opening. Kurt gets Brock to tap out but the ref is down so it doesn't count, and Vince comes in and whacks Kurt in the back with a chair shot. Brock's ankle messed up and all are able to hit a one-legged F-5 but Kurt kicks out. Kurt then gets the ankle lock locked in tight, the damage earlier had been done to Brock's ankle forcing Brock to tap out.****1/4"

[4.0] "Yet another wholly uncreative and eventually very overkill big WWE title match. Not even their technical work at the start was good, since they didn't show enough intensity or realistic strategy to play off of both their amateur-wrestling backgrounds; instead, they just traded a bunch of holds and quickly disengaged over and over, as if they were just doing this work for the sake of it. The match then moved to Lesnar's control segment as he hit and applied big moves one after the other while generally working a big beatdown, with Angle's mildly fiery comebacks always being cut off. While Lesnar's work was decent, there wasn't anything too special about his offence nor Angle's selling. It just felt like they were doing the barebones of what was expected of them, waiting until such point that they could deem enough time had passed and then they could go to their generic 'epic' big-move trading segment, which is exactly what they did. Their signature move and finisher trading was all super generic, and of course a ref bump and corresponding run-in attack HAD to be thrown in too, ensuring that this match was overblown and cheap in the exact same way that every other big title match in the company at this time was. I genuinely can't fathom how fans were happy to pay for these PPVs when they could easily pinpoint the exact structure and set of spots that would occur in every major title match. The lack of creativity is honestly astonishing. I won't call this completely bad because both men's physical displays were still somewhat decent, and the crowd was at least hyped for it all, but this was still pretty bad and I was just rolling my eyes and waiting for it to end. **1/4"

[7.0] "A rematch from Wrestlemania, only with the face and heel roles reversed. These two ripped into each other with some impressive amateur-styled wrestling with Angle schooling Lesnar on the mat. Lesnar has the power advantage and he tries to lean into that, but Angle blindsides him and Lesnar leaves the ring and starts trashing up the ringside area. They really brought the intensity during the opening exchanges, but they start to lose me as the match progresses. Lesnar's selling is incredible here and it's always consistent. After his ankle has been torn to shit by Angle, he manages to power through and hits a one-legged F5! Angle's performance was a lot more spotty. He would bring a lot of cool transitions to the table, but this also featured some of his worst tendencies. The dumbest moment of the match had to be him pulling his straps up, only to pull them back down seconds later. Angle sold his beating, but he wouldn't milk sympathy from the crowd as all great babyfaces would. I could take or leave the Vince interference and the excessive usage of ankle locks. Not quite on the level of their Wrestlemania bout, I'd still recommend you check this one on the strength of Lesnar's performance alone."

[10.0] "Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar had without question the best chemistry in 2003 wrestling. Great mixture of Amateur Wrestling in this match, as well as a dominant run in the first half by Brock, followed by a great comeback in the second half by Kurt due to him capitalizing well of off brocks injury. Not my favorite of their feud, but still a classic nonetheless."

Both guys played their roles tremendously and that, to me, made this a better outing than their Mania match, that and the fact that there was no botched SSP that knocked Brock silly, with Brock playing the heel much better than the face."

[9.0] "Yet another fantastic match from these two, just as good as their first encounter if not better. They told a great story here, with Angle somehow managing to persevere Lesnar's brutal onslaught through sheer force of will. The in-ring work and intensity was amazing (as is the case in just about all of their matches) and the crowd was red hot. Also, loved Brock's selling of the F5 where he was limping from Angle's leg work. Even with Vince interfering, Angle still managed to pull through and doggedly keep the Ankle Lock on, eventually forcing Lesnar to submit. Amazing match. ****1/2"

[9.0] "Fantastic match. There was some pretty awesome mat wrestling in the vain of amateur wrestling to start of the match. Lesnar quickly realises he can not out-wrestle an Olympic gold medal so begins using his weight to dominate the match. Whenever Angle began to get a foothold into the match, Brock would show off his power, whether that was by a overhead suplex (In one case where he didn't even arch his back or bend his legs. He launches Angle using his arms. FUCKING BEAST MODE Brock is a best) or just punching him. Lesnar then did some brutal work on Angle's back. Brock was in his element working over someone as the dominant bully. His speed, intensity and power just make this all the better. Lesnar makes too many mistakes and hurts his shoulder in the meantime, allowing Angle to capitalize and start getting back into this match and begins going for Brock's leg for the ankle lock. Brock's selling off this is amazing. Even selling it during an one legged F5 on Angle. Angle does this amazing bit where he does a sort of lucha-esc (Pretty sure I've seen it in lucha matches before) submission hold to wear down Brock for the Ankle lock. The McMahon interference was fine, didn't harm the match and it lead to the awesome vicious off Lesnar TAPPING OUT (! ) whilst scream for Vince. Fuck me what a match. ****1/2"

Starts out with too much amateur mat stuff and never really seems to click into a truly 'wow this is amazing' sort of gear. It's a long match with solid wrestling but it's never really all that exciting or anything. It feels like the match is stuck in the same gear the whole time and that's kind of how the Mania match felt too. Pretty overrated, and honestly I'm starting to feel the whole Angle/Lesnar feud itself was overrated at this point."

[7.0] "The rematch from Wrestlemania 19, I say quite frankly, surpasses the first match. Its not as sloppy, doesn't put the audience to sleep (except for the two worms chanting 'boring' throughout the match), retains a consistent pace and Brock doesn't kabosh the finish in some spectacular train wreck of a way. There are two counters into the ankle lock that I really like (including the one that lead into the finish), and speaking of which I never got the complaint of Angle doing too many Ankle locks. Its his most effective move and one he can apply with relative ease, my only gripe about that is he doesn't really utilize any other leg targeting moves, but I digress. Vinces involvement probably didn't need to happen but I'd say it added a little bit of good drama to the match. **** 1/4"

Lesnar seemed much better than Angle in terms of the performance especially the character work and his selling of the leg problems due to multiple applications of the Ankle Lock by Angle. I liked the story that went along in how Angle frustrated Lesnar early on but then was just relentless towards the end once Lesnar got desperate in trying to regain the title. Really good match overall though. (***3/4)"

Das lag auch vor allem daran, dass sie es nicht wirklich gut hinbekommen haben die ersten 10 Minuten ohne große Längen zu überbrücken.
